We have ordered. 3,000 POL pullets, expected to arrive next monday. Borehole has been drilled with overhead tank in place.

Two staff were hired since the beginning of April undergoing mini-training in a bigger operational farm nearby.

Please dear seniors, feel free to critique my story so far but more importantly, whatare the necessary things we need to do towards receiving the pullets on Monday.

Your advice remains invaluable & would be appreciated.

Congrats
as per above.
1, You need a good brooding house.
2, You need an experience hand becos you are starting big with 3000 birds
3. If your farm is in the North. ur pen is too short. the higher the better to avoid heat shock from affecting birds at the top cage.

Many thanks @davidzfarm18.

We hv the brooding pen in our plan (next cycle to be raised from DOC)
Our farm is in the south-west, however I take note of your point about the height of the pen.
I have been suported by a mentor (he has provided guidance, contacts, networks all the way), he is standing by us.

Is there any specific thing we need to do pertaining to the arrival of the pullet?

1. ensure you have enough multivitamin and administer it once they arrive
2. sort the birds while putting them in the cages.
3. do not subject the birds to further stress on arrival.
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by hayor2014(m): 9:39am On Apr 20, 2015
@JAMP...please what kinda multivitamin is given to birds that destress them....am still a learner please
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Eggcelent(m): 11:16am On Apr 20, 2015
segun1976. Great one you have here. In addition to what jamp has said, you may also include "Stresoak"; it is an herbal mixture excellent for reducing stress. And of course, ensure their "table" is set before their arrival. hayor2014. Any good multivitamin will do. the issue with recommending some specific names is that they may not be readily available in your area of the country. Meanwhile, you may wish to consider any of the following; Vitalyte, Aminovet or Amin'total. Success
