Except you develop a complex mathematical model for it, I don't see how you can know for certain if it's possible to walk or if he did walk from Lagos to Abj in that time....cos there are some many factors to consider:
* did he follow conventional car route?
* how many mins/hours did he take to rest, eat and/ sleep, chat?
* at what pace was he walking
* did he maintain the same pace all through the journey?...he could jug a while

Now assuming he lag in one or more of the above which still doesn't account for all the factors or parameters in this context, then we can take the lag as "U"...and give a linear model as:

¥ = a + bC + b2R + b3P + .... + U

Where ¥ = number of hours it took him
a = constant
b = coefficients
U = error term/lag
In theory, it means the number of hours it took him to walk the journey depends on the distance C, rest hours R, walking pace P and other factors.

The statisticians and mathematicians can take it from here *sigh*

Simply put, going by the 737Km of lagos to Abuja, the guy will have to trek at the least an average 41km per day to make it in 18days.

The question is can someone trek 40km in a day?

I will conveniently say Yes.

If marathon runners can make 30km in 2 1/5 hours then 40km is childs play for some people. If anyone doubts it, they should try and calculate how many km do all this gala sellers trek per day in traffics.

Stop the doubting. From lagos to abuja on foot 24/7 is approx 5 days. It took this guy 20 days.

But it appears that is not the route he took. According to the news he went through Bids, which means he took the ilorin route.

NOT VERIFIED.

AM TOUCHED BY THE STORY OF 'THE TRAVELLER FOR BUHARI'

THE WALK FOR CHANGE INDEED!

He kept his promise! We pray GMB keeps his too!!!

Suleiman Hashimu or ‘The traveller’ as I prefer to call him is an indigene of Katsina state, Funtua to be precise. He was born in Osun state but lives in Ibadan.
The traveller promised two years ago to walk from where ever he is to the capital of Nigeria, Abuja if General Muhammadu Buhari wins the election in 2015. BBC Hausa, Voice of America and Aminiya (a Hausa Magazine) interviewed him. He was in Lagos when Buhari was declared the President-elect of Nigeria. He left Lagos at about 5am the next day and arrived Ibadan around 6pm. He went to get a police report to allow for the smoothness of his journey but couldn’t wait and so, the D.P.O. gave him his phone number. Despite several discouragement from friends and at the same time, inspiration from friends and loved ones; he continued from Ibadan to Oyo. Then from Oyo to Ogbomoso.; And from Ogbomoso to Ilorin with much hospitality at every stop.
At Ilorin, some people escorted him for some miles and he stopped at Oloru. Oloru, to border’n Sa’ada and then to Jebba. He received so much hospitality from Jebba and unlike other villages he met a lot of people who had heard of the traveller. About 20 people set off with him from Jebba and after some miles, about 18 went back but the remaining two where determined. They met with armed robbers close to Mokwa and luckily, he already met one of them in Jebba and he even gave him 200 Naira for pure water. The robber told his colleagues that he was going to see Buhari and he gave him 2000 Naira and then slapped the two men with him. He continued his journey from Mokwa to Kudu and then to Kutigi. He is currently in Kutigi and will continue his journey to Bida tomorrow by the grace of God.
I asked him about his encounter with the different people and he said it was remarkable. Actually he gets more determined to move on from the people. He was even treated like a King in a village in Niger. They sang tribal songs he didn’t understand and travellers stop to provide him with food and company along the way. Most of them are familiar with him because they travel the same route daily. Sometimes up to 10 cars would stop to converse with him. News travelled with the public transports to different places on his route and people from several cities, towns and villages on his route would call to check up on him and inquire about his journey.
He doesn’t know for sure if Buhari knows of him but several of his support organizations do. He intends to reach Abuja by 27th of May and celebrate with the new president at his inauguration ceremony.

You can reach him on his mobile: 08057333300. Please do share the news of ‘the traveller’.

After a football match, you can afford to spend a whole week or even more analyzing the game you didn't participate in (another man's work). You would even listen to the commentators analyze the game two hours after the match but you can't even use you brain to figure out a simple mathematical term cos its too high for your pretty small mind to figure out.

Unless we have documented video proof this guy took off from Lagos,we cannot be certain he didn't just take off from a closer locale maybe Suleja and as it is that the awareness wasn't raised from the midpoint of Lokoja-a critical information dissemination juncture- we are certain this be looking like a very elaborate and meticulous scam.

This exactly expresses my fears. If this whole thing turns out to be a hoax and scam, its not good for us as a country. He is supposed to announce it at the beginning of the journey not at some points in Niger state.

Well the video footage and his log of the entire journey is required to prove this adventure.

I dont think he followed the route shown on the map by OP. He passed through Suleja so he definitely didnt pass through Lokoja but came through Minna and probably Kwara.

The most probable route is Lagos - Ibadan - Ogbomosho - Ilorin - Jebba - Mokwa - Bida - Madalla - Abuja which is 737km by car at 75km/hr average.

Assuming a human walks 5km/hr, it will take 147.4 hours. Of course a human can walk all that hours without stopping or resting. Assuming he rest in the night and walks 6am to 6pm which is 12 hours, he will take at least 12.3 days to get to Abuja. I heard he spent 2days in Suleja due to blisters on his feet. A friend told me he personally saw him approaching Suleja on Saturday. So he probably traveled about 15days including the two days he rested in Suleja minus calculative errors due to his walking speed, route start/stop times and days he may have rested in other places.

YOU ARE A CORRECT GUY grin grin

I'm sure most of u that believe never travelled from lagos to Abj b4 and see how far and rough the road is.you don't Hv to pass 2ru minna again from bida straight to suleja and mark u if the road is rough it wouldn't affect him because he is on foot, u spent hours on this road because is bad but I follow this road last month it's far better now than what u used to know

I don't see the fuzz over his trekking. If he trekked from Lagos to Abuja in 30mins then it is no history after all he is from Katsina state & also Fulani by tribe! Trekking is their culture!
