MANU HANDS NDIDI VICE CAPTAIN BAND
Genk of Belgium 18 year old central defender Wilfred Ndidi has being named the vice captain of the Nigeria Under-20 team who are set to campaign at the World Youth Championship in New Zealand.
Ndidi will deputise for regular skipper Musa Mohammed while striker Taiwo Awoniyi who has being wearing the band in the absence of Ndidi will be the team third captain.
The former Nath boys of Lagos defence strong man was with the team when they were in their formative years at Under-17 level but a failed MRI test ruled him out from participating at the Africa Under-17 Youth Championship and the Under-17 World Youth Championship.
However he was snapped up by coach John Obuh then coach of the Nigeria Under-20 team and despite his tender age he posted a faultless performance for the team two years ago at the World Youth Championship in Turkey.
This will be his second Under-20 World cup and the highly rated youngster is expected to be a regular for Nigeria as he will lead from the rear alongside his favourite partner Zahradeen Bello and flanked by full backs Musa Mohammed and Mustapha Abdullahi.
ndidi hads always been the vice captain

in reality korea is the weakest team in this group if u aks me, though they posses players ranging 20 to 19 year old but they aren't any threat to nigeria. Asian teams strugle against African side expecialy at age-grade tourney like this. We should be more woried about Hungary, 2005 is past this is a new era, eye-don-tear lol. anywhich way we must get thru the group by God's grace.

There is still dis special thing about this team. They have a winning mentality and a 'never say die' spirit. Kudos to The team psychologists, they 're really doing a gr8 job. At d AYC championship d match against d ivorians n d black meteors of Ghana shewed us that this guys will settle down for no defeat unlike their big brothers(SE). I only hope that invites (moses, success n ndidi n nacho) blends quickly wit others. The more de play together d better de become. This team will write history. #FLYflyingEAGLES

first off, that is a highly unnflattering picture of Awoniyi and I DEMAND you change it with immediate alacrity angry

Secondly, if Iheanachoa at 6ft.2" is shorter than Awoniyi my loff in metres, that means Awo should be somewhere around 6ft.4", putting the likes of Alamps and Joshua roughly at 6ft5"-6".....

And I remember someone from the U-17 thread 2 years ago saying Alamps was too short to be a Premier League goalie at 6ft1", see? These kids applied with their authentic age grin

We lost to Japan, not Korea. it was a tactical error.

We conceded two quick goals when Mikel was taken off

joseph1013:
Right from the qualifiers, Taiwo Awoniyi has been very consistent and he has improved match after match. He is a player who gets into a scoring position better than any other player,” said Manu in an interview.

“I believe if he stayed calm, he will be one player who will do very, very well at the World Cup.

“There is also Kingsley Sokari. If he listened very well and works very hard too, he will have a great World Cup."
“I believe the best player and highest scorer (of the World Cup) will come from my team,” he tipped.

What impresses me most about Coach Manu Garba is his accurate understanding of the game and his players.
I pointed this earlier in the thread that Awoniyi's biggest challenge was his impatience in front of the goal. Not long, Awoniyi's strike rate improved. It is nice seeing he noticed the problem and he is working on it.

Also, it is a fact that Awoniyi is a player who knows how to get into scoring position with pace. That is whyII disagree with the Rashidi Yekini comparison. He reminds me of Anelka, uusing his pace to cause defenders problem.

The players get a lot of credit of being talented but I feel these lads are great because of their brilliant coaching crew. These boys are in the best hands.

This man knows football scatter. This is one of the best things I have read in my life when it concerns football. I wish I could have a chance to gist with this footballing genius. His success is not a fluke.
