We lost to Japan, not Korea. it was a tactical error.

We conceded two quick goals when Mikel was taken off

It was South Korea. It was one of the games that made me doubt the coaching skills of Coach Siasia. As soon as Mikel left the field, the team fell apart. We were leading and dominating the game. Also, without Mikel at the Olympics, Siasia's Eagles did not flow as they did at the WYC.

But, it takes a good coach to use a good player.

Bros, It's South Korea. A loss is a loss whatever the reason may be. And when men fail to learn from history, history repeats itself.

What impresses me most about Coach Manu Garba is his accurate understanding of the game and his players.
I pointed this earlier in the thread that Awoniyi's biggest challenge was his impatience in front of the goal. Not long, Awoniyi's strike rate improved. It is nice seeing he noticed the problem and he is working in it.

Also, it is a fact that Awoniyi is a player who knows how to get into scoring position with pace. That is whyII disagree with the Rashidi Yekini comparison. He reminds me of Anelka, uusing his pace to cause defenders problem.

The players get a lot of credit of being talented but I feel these lads are great because of their brilliant coaching crew. These boys are in the best hands.
Let us pray for them that the spirit that fell on their elder brothers will not fall on them.

I believe Iheanacho will blend fast with the team because he has played in different systems since the Under-17 World Cup and did well.

He trained with the Barcelona outfit, with the MLS team, the Man City Under-18 team, with Pellegrini and he had the chance to train with the Argentine National team when they visited the Etihad campus.

Nacho's recent breakthrough into the EDS team gives another example of how fast Nacho blends into a
team. He was under a new management and in a short time, he blended with them and became the star of the team.

I do not see Nacho having a problem blending with the current crop of Flying Eagles players because he adapts well and he is used to the system already.

2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup: Time to break the jinx?
Article by Chris Onokpegu

Come May 30, the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand will come alive with the Flying Eagles of Nigeria competing alongside other countries. Does this Flying Eagles have what it takes to break the jinx and come home with the elusive trophy?
IMG_1660

The Flying Eagles have played three warm up games in Germany.

On May 30, the 20th edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals will commence in New Zealand. The tournament which started in 1977 as the FIFA World Youth Championship is taking place for the first time in New Zealand, and the third time on Oceanian soil after Australia staged the 1981 and 1993 editions respectively.

A total of 52 matches will also be played in seven host cities in this year’s edition. 24 nations from six FIFA confederations will compete in the 20th edition of the tournament, with Argentina the most successful nation having won the U-20 title on six occasions.

The defending champions, France will not feature in this year’s edition as they failed to qualify. It will be recalled that the Pogba-led France defeated Uruguay 4–1 in a penalty shootout in the 2013 final in Turkey. France became the fourth consecutive incumbent title holder to fail to qualify for the subsequent tournament.

At this year’s World Cup, all eyes will be on Nigeria's Flying Eagles unlike what it used to be in the past. The Black Satellites of Ghana have always stolen the show among the African representatives and moreso, they are the most successful team on the continent.

However, this year’s edition will be different because of the great talent in the Flying Eagles and also considering the great form of some of the players who are playing for some of the big teams in the world.
The Flying Eagles won the Africa Youth Championship the Seventh time in Senegal in March

The Flying Eagles won the Africa Youth Championship the Seventh time in Senegal in March

Aside current form, the Flying Eagles who have a crop of players from the victorious U-17 side to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, have been consistent in all their matches.

During the last Super Six Team Invitational Tournament organized by the League Management Company, LMC, they defeated all the Nigerian clubs and played a draw with their senior counterparts, Dream Team to lift the trophy.

Also, they took that form to the African Youth Championship, AYC in Senegal and defeated all the teams except Cote d’Ivoire to also lift the trophy.

Recently, they walloped three U-23 teams of German top clubs namely, TSG Hoffenheim, Numberg and SC Freiburg in friendly matches before departing the shores of Germany for New Zealand for the tournament proper.

However what surprised most people is that the team has churned out great results without the “big boys” in the team. The team won the Super Six Team Invitational Tournament, the AYC and three friendly matches amongst others without the foreign-based players Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Chidiebere Nwakali, Isaac Success, amongst others.

Meanwhile, one player capitalized on the absence of the foreign based players and carved a niche for himself at the home front, and his name is Taiwo Awoniyi.

Many thought his performances at the aforementioned tournaments were fluke until he was invited to Samson Siasia’s Dream Team which needed to win in Zambia to secure qualification to the 11th All -Africa Games, AAG.

Awoniyi lived up to expectations and grabbed two goals for the Dream Team in Lusaka, Zambia. It would be recalled that the team under the tutelage of Siasia was unable to score in the first leg in Abuja. The good news however is that the player who is hoping to be a mechanical engineer in future is taking that form to the World Cup.
Taiwo Awoniyi

Taiwo Awoniyi

The 18-year-old striker has so far scored two hat-tricks in two friendly matches in Germany and in so doing sent fears into the foreign based players who are just joining the team; in other words, he has set a standard for others to follow. The likes of highly-rated Simon Moses and Isaac Success will have to live up to expectations to get into the starting line-up.

Meanwhile, for the Flying Eagles to think of lifting the trophy, they will have to first of all compete in a tough group with five-time champions Brazil, Hungary and Korea DPR.

Despite the fact that the Eagles have Brazil in their group, and with another great rival, Argentina participating in this year’s tournament, many soccer pundits and followers alike have already tipped the Flying Eagles to break the jinx by lifting the trophy.

Awoniyi said: “I think that we need continuity in the various national teams," said Awoniyi. "I believe if there is continuity, as is the case with us now, from U-17s to U-20s, we can change all that. We are very hopeful that we will be able to change it this year.”

Nigeria: Awoniyi Confident Goals Won't Dry At World Cup

Flying Eagles goal scoring machine, Taiwo Awoniyi has assured his teeming fans that he will continue with his goal scoring form at the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

After a double hat-trick in two friendly matches against the youth sides of Hoffenheim and Nurnberg in Germany, the 2015 AYC Most Valuable Player said he is ready to lead the chase for goals at the World Cup.

Awoniyi told Daily Trust in a chat that nobody should entertain fears that his goals may dry at the most critical moment.

He said his personal target is to score goals in New Zealand to justify his high rating by his teeming fans at home and abroad.

Awoniyi also said having made the final list, everybody is focused on breaking the U-20 World Cup jinx.

He said it is not going to be easy but with God on their side, the Flying Eagles will do Nigerians proud.

"It is true that I am scoring consistently but there is no cause for alarm. My goals will not dry up when the World Cup commences.

"I want my fans to keep praying for me. My target is to lead the chase for goals. But it is going to be team work. Everybody in the team is now thinking about breaking the World Cup jinx.

"What we ask for from our fans is prayers. With God on our side, we shall surely do the country proud," he said.

Uhmm... Which Haruna do you speak of Sir? If it's Haruna Lukman then please note that you've made a faux pas. Haruna lukman featured at the 2009 fifa u20 world cup in Egypt. Mikel starred in 2005. Mikel was taken off in that game against Korea Republic(i.e. South Korea) and was replaced by a certain Kola Anubi... And what happened next? We gave up our lead and went on to lose 1-2. Boy!!! That result got me a little scared ahead of our next game against a Senderos- and Alexander Frei-inspired Switzerland. I was just in Jss3/SS 1 back then in 2005. I was having a great week at school academically only for that result to stain it. Never the less, Thank God we recovered and went on to stun the world but couldn't get the title no thanks to Messi. THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS I'M BANKING ON THE LIKES OF AWONIYI THE INTELLECTUAL, IHEANACHO THE GENIUS, YAHAYA THE INIESTA, SUCCESS THE BEAST, IDOWU THE 4-LUNGED HORSE, MUSA MOHAMMED THE ROBOCOP, EZEH THE BABY-FACED ASSASIN AMONG OTHERS LED BY MANU GARBA THE WISE TASK MASTER AND NDUKA UGBADE THE SCIENCE OF FOOTBALL PROFESSOR TO DELIVER GOLD AGAINST ALL ODDS.

Welcome to this thread. Someone like you is definitely an asset to this thread. Do you think Coach Manu Garba and his crew will start a player like Nacho if he gels immediately with the team in camp? Nacho's star performance with the EDS team of Man City is not a fluke.

If he comes to camp and fits in immediately, I feel he should get the Nod to start.

Nice to have you here bro. I love visiting SL10. It's a great place and what I like most are the commenters. I was glad when I saw familiar commenters from the now defunct KON forum. I dont like commenting on sl10 though because they always ban anytime I put a link to youtube or any other useful website as regards sports. KON allowed us to put links on our comments back then and I still miss it. I resigned finally when I was trying to tell sl10 folks about this wonderful thread and sl10 deleted my comments.

Anyway, it's nice to have you here. I'm sure you'll love it here. Cheers bro.

NB: Kudos to joseph1013. He's to be appreciated because even when no one was reading his articles posted or commenting on his thread, he was always posting. If I remember correctly, he started this thread when Manu Garba was promoted to be the Flying Eagles Coach in November 2013, the same time Amunike was appointed Golden Eaglets coach. The hackers stormed nairaland and deleted all his contents but he was not discouraged. He simply kept on posting and updating the thread. Kudos bro.

This is an example of someone who is truly passionate about what he is doing. I look at @nff on social media and I'm ashamed. Late updates, obsolete contents and a generally not interesting platform for football fans to participate. I wont be wrong if I say that Joseph1013 is the kind of person they should employ to bring life to their image on the internet. He's been doing this without gratitude or payments for so long. He truly loves and is passionate about football. Well done, Sir!

Argentina coach foresees tough title bid

Argentina coach, Humberto Grondona, says he expects to have a fully fit squad before kickoff but admits winning the 2015 Fifa Under-20 World Cup title will not come easy.

The Argentines qualified to the New Zealand tournament as South American champions and there is huge expectation back home that Grondona’s side would lift their seventh world title come June 20.

The Argentine under-20s are currently struggling with injuries to four players - Andres Cubas, Cristian Pavon, Sebastian Driussi and Emiliano Buendia.

“I think that come May 30 everybody will be fit and available,” he said.

"We know we are going very well, we comfortably won the South American championship but the World Cup is different.

”We know that we are a team with good potential. We maintain the structure in defence and try to put together a team that best deals with the ball. We are the best in Southern America but winning the title is difficult,“ Grondona admitted.

Argentina are in Group B of the 2015 Under-20 World Cup with Panama, Ghana and Austria.

The stage is set for the twentieth edition of the Fifa U20 World Cup with all the participating teams submitting their final list for the championship. With an average age of just 18.9 years, Nigeria are, for the first time ever, taking the youngest panel of players to the championship in which they have twice contested the final.

Owing to their exploits at the African Youth Championship, where they emerged as champions, coach Manu Garba has kept faith in majority of the players who won the World U17 championship in UAE – with Kelechi Iheanacho, Musa Muhammed and goal machine Taiwo Awoniyi leading the pack.

Enyimba’s Kingsley Sokari is their oldest player at 20 years and one day, while Zaharaddeen Bello is Nigeria’s youngest representative, at 17 years five months.

Germany, on the other hand, have the oldest squad, with an average age of 19.9 years, just ahead of Portugal, Ukraine and Korea DPR.

Bayern Leverkusen’s 19-year old forward Julian Brandt is the European’s youngest player in a group containing a total of 19 players who are 20 or over.

Senegal’s Moussa Wague, 16 years seven months, is the youngest of all 504 players at the competition. Having been born in October 1998, he is just a month older than Ghana’s Kingsley Fobi. At the other end of the scale, Argentina’s 20 years five months forward Alejandro Romero is the oldest player in the competition.

Hosts New Zealand have gone for a mix of young and old as coach Darren Bazeley has included seven players who are 20 or older, while Clayton Lewis and Moses Dyer (both 18) bring the average down to 19.1. The award for tallest player at the 2015 Fifa U20 World Cup goes to Serbia’s 18-year-old goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, with a staggering height of 202 cm. Should the FK Vojvodina man be at his best in New Zealand, chances are that he might just stop all the attacking forays of opposing strikers.

Ghana’s defender Patrick Asmah is the shortest player in the competition at 152 cm.

Heading into prestigious competition, some teams have adopted a more youthful approach than others while most have gone for a blend of ages. After the final on July 20 at the North Harbour Stadium in Auckland, we will see which approach works best.

Stay tuned in to Goal throughout Fifa U20 2015 as we keep you up-to-date on all the action from New Zealand.

I just watched moses simon's clip on youtube now. That boy is a serious guy. He is quite good. Hmmm, Nepa should go and look for those megawatts before the competition starts o as fuel is now 250 per litre. My wife won't let me burn such fuel at such ungodly hour for any match. Biko Nepa make una meet me halfway.

Bro, you're still alive? (just kidding) What happened to that thread on 'Weird People The World Would Never See Again'? That was an interesting and educative thread you abandoned mehn. I enjoyed it while it lasted. Can you please continue the series?

EXCL: Flying Eagles ace Bulbwa: I don't belong to Esperance

World Cup-bound Flying Eagles forward Bernard Bulbwa has dropped a bombshell after claiming he does belong to Tunisian club Esperance despite agreeing personal and other terms with them in April as they have failed to meet their obligations.

Bulbwa told AfricanFootball.com he and his representatives are yet to get a copy of what he was supposed to have agreed with Esperance and this was despite several promises by the top Tunisian club they will get across the contract to them.

Esperance also promised to pay him part of the signing-on fee upon his signing the contract, but he has yet to receive any cash from them.

“I am not yet an Esperance player,” declared the 18-year-old forward to AfricanFootball.com

“I remember signing some documents at Esperance, but I don’t even have a copy of what I have signed with this club, same thing with my manager.

“They have been promising to send us copies of this agreement for more than a month now and they are yet to do so.

“Even the money they promised to give me for signing, they have not given me the money.

“As a result of this, I am still a free player and my manager is ready to listen to any club who wish to sign me.”

However, Bulbwa, whose stunning goal won Nigeria a record seventh African Youth Championship in Dakar, Senegal, maintained that the controversies surrounding his reported transfer to Esperance will not make him lose focus at the U20 World Cup, which starts next week in New Zealand.

“I am fully concentrated on the World Cup because I know what is at stake for both my country and myself,” he told AfricanFootball.com

“My manager will handle anything to do with my transfer.”

AfricanFootball.com has further gathered that Bulbwa’s UK-based manager Frankie Stephen did not represent his client in Tunis last month, which runs foul of FIFA rules.

And he only met with Esperance officials led by vice-president Ziad Tlemcani for the first time after several failed appointments earlier this week.

Tlemcani made several promises to the agent, which included sending him a copy of the contract, but which he again failed to honour.

Stephen has already told AfricanFootball.com that his player does not have a contract with Esperance.

Bulbwa reportedly agreed a five-year contract with Esperance worth $1.2 million.
