Pls, does anyone know anything about New Jersey POE. Any experience, pls share.

Newark New Jersey was awesome. Came in with wifey and spent less than 3mins with the cbp officer. Asked why we were in the US, told him vacation and childbirth. That was it. I was surprised. Took wife's pic and stamped us in. Went through Agriculture and also had to fill a form cos we declared having food and funds in excess of 10k. No biggie, no food siezed, money was not checked either. Just filled the fund declaration form and that was it

My fellow Northside parents esp. Shawbabe, West300,Nana89, MrsDan, I need your advise on how to procure my daughters US passport. We picked the bC up on Friday. My challenge now has to do with the consent letter as my Husband is in Nigeria at the moment. How do I go about getting it signed from embassy or court? Which is acceptable in Atlanta. If its embassy, how do we schedule appointment for him ?. Secondly, can you please recommend any walk in county or post office where I can get the passport issued in Atlanta, as the POst office around me are scheduling me for later dates. Thirdly, any agent that can help with the Nigeria passport. Lastly, any reliable shipping agent.
Please help a sister, obodo oyinbo don tire me o.

My husband was with me so don't know about scheduling consent form
Don't go to post office for Passport. Go downtown at the Passport agency. Google the address. I shipped my baby things ahead of time through friends and family going and coming to visit b4 I was due. The rest I paid excess liggage fees as it came out cheaper than using a shipping company for $1500.

Don't know about close to New York but in New York, I checked the following out "Kings County, Brooklyn, Queens Medical Center in Queens, Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, New York Hospital in Queens, I even went to wyckoff heights in Brooklyn and then finally settled for Mercy Medical Center in Long Island as their pricing was direct and straight forward (not so cheap but well, I have family less than 20mins to the hospital, so it was my best bet)

For c-section,just have well above 10k -12k dollars...

Most of the hospitals give discount for self paying patients...

Feel free to research on them.

All the best.

It doesn't matter if you declared or not during application, you can do a letter of change of intent or notification of your intention to also use your visa for childbirth.

All the best.

@ekweresplace, during my interview I was to go to Orlando Florida but I ended up going to New York. All I did was to get an hospital in New York and I had their bills with me plus I notified the embassy of change in my travel plans cos my visa was for vacation and I now intend to use it for childbirth ...I dint mention if I was changing states or anything.

So just arm yourself with hospital correspondence in the state she intends to go. Shikena.

ekweresplace:

Thanks for your response. But I still need some clarifications... How did you changed it? Did you book your flight directly to Maryland from Naija connecting from Atlanta? If yes, didn't they suspect or ask any question? Hope to hear from you soon...

Nah nothing wrong with post office but I doubt u can do expedited coz earliest is AT LEAST 2 weeks. But with the agency u can get it that day or the next day. And from her post it looked like she is pressed for time. But if u are in no hurry, u can use post office and just relax till whenever they send it.

I sent the notification to the Abuja embassy. Don't have the address for Lagos but it's on the thread somewhere.

Dear Sir/Madam,

NOTIFICATION OF CHANGE IN TRAVEL PLAN

I am writing to notify the embassy of a change in my travel plans. I have a B1/B2 visa which was obtained for a family vacation. I am now pregnant and we have decided to have our baby in the USA.

I have made proper arrangements by contacting a hospital and a doctor in the USA for this purpose and we have adequate finances to cover all expenses.

I understand that my Visa covers for the purpose but would like to request that you kindly update my records to reflect this change in travel plans.

Kindly advise if there is any other thing I would need to know before embarking on my trip.

Thank you.

For those looking for information on how to get the consent form notarized in Nigeria, see extract from part 1 of this thread
" Info on Notarizing for baby birth cert in Nigerian US Embassy:

You just go on the website.. I think the link is on page 92. You book with your name and passport details.

You pick a date and time just d way every other appointment is picked and print the confirmation. On the day you have picked.. You go with the printed form you want to notatize( fill the necessary parts leaving the signature and date section since you have to do that in front of the guy at the embassy). Also you need to go with your passport.

You get there, you should be directed to the US citizen section... Get in and pick a number... When ur number is called... Form and passport is collect from you(Note: it's free). So the guy calls your name when it's ur turn and he'll probably be gisting with u and all while he ask u to sign and he gets the form notarized and you are out."

So for those whose husbands won't be around after delivery, ensure he gets the consent form signed off in Nigeria at the US Embassy and DHL it to you within 48 hours after delivery. This would ensure that you get the form by the time the BC comes out. Please note that this can only be done after you give birth. So lets plan ahead and GOD will help us all to achieve our dreams.

For those asking about baby documentation process, see another extract from part 1 of this thread. This was compiled by our very own TVEGAS, you can read his posts even for newbies just about to start the process.

"STEPS TO BABY DOCUMENTATION IN USA USING HOUSTON/FORT BEND COUNTY,TX AS EXAMPLE.

These steps also applies to other states with little variations. As soon as you land in the USA test the reliability of your postal address by sending a mail from USPS to yourself or by ordering stuff on Amazon. This is very important for your social security card as the whole process relies on your postal address ,you can't collect it in person. Some people spend weeks waiting for this, a friend of mine had her initial card cancelled and issued another one after waiting for 3 weeks,i suspect card either got lost or was stolen.

1. Step 1 is to have your baby's names ready, there is nothing like waiting till the naming day lol.

2. A social worker will bring some forms for you to fill after delivery. The forms will enable fort bend county process your baby's birth certificate and social security card. You don't need to do anything here apart from filling the form. The Social worker will tell you when to pick the BC.

3. Pick up your BC in Fort Bend County Clerk, 301 Jackson street, Richmond. 4 days after delivery. For example if you delivered on Monday it should be ready by Friday. Go there with your ID i.e. your passport which contains your Visa page . Fill the request forms and pay $23 for each copy. They can issue only 10 BC during the lifetime of your baby . You can pick 2,3 or 4 copies etc.

4. For the US Passport : If you want to leave the US on time. Call the Passport Agency on (877) 487-2778 to book an appointment for your US passport and head to The Houston Passport agency , 1919 Smith Street, Houston, TX 77002 on the scheduled date. Have your application form, baby's BC, passport photo, etc handy. You will be advised on what is needed on phone or you can check http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english.html for details. Your passport can be ready same day if you tell them it's urgent. Max 3 days. Costs about $165 expedited.

5. If you are too busy to go to downtown like me, you can take the necessary documents to the nearest post office ,apply for expedited US passport. It should arrive in your mailbox within 2 to 3 weeks. Got mine within 2 weeks. Birth certificate submitted during application will be mailed to you on a later date for security reasons. Costs about same price of $165 expedited. You can track your application online via same website http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english.html.

6. Within 2 weeks the Social security card should arrive in your mailbox. If you don't receive it by then you need to call the Social security office on 8665921608 . But Make sure your mailbox is reliable to avoid stories.

7. For the Nigerian Visa. You can use an agent, most people pay about $340 for this ($300 money order in the agent's name and $19.99 for 2 overnight delivery envelopes). Some members on this thread have used Tanko and Eddy successfully, Dr fagb gives out Tankos details at your postpartum. It will take approx 3 working days. If you want to do it yourself you can go to the Nigerian embassy website to fill your forms and apply personally, it will cost about $220 (Including envelopes). Visit http://nigeria-consulate-atl.org/ to apply yourself.

8. When your Nigerian visa written with blue bic biro comes pack your luggage and head to Nigeria with your Americana baby before Obama changes his mind. ( The Nigerian visa itself is an eyesore, why are we so backward in everything lol ??)."

Dear All,

I have been following this thread as a single for well over 2 years. Now I am married, and expecting. This is my first post, yet I feel like a family already smiley

I have opted for el paso and have paid the US$ 150 enrollment fee. They have sent a signed doctor's responsibility letter and the hospital pricing (though unsigned). Is this all that I should expect to receive from them? Will this be sufficient proof at the POE, beyond the cash, accommodation reservation and the test results from Nigeria?

Hi BABSFREY. Plz I am also interested in contacting El Paso, plz can u help with useful information to get through direct, like (email, website......) thank u

If you're in Maryland and would have to go through the stress of buying a money order, why not just get a nigerian passport instead of getting a visa.
Had my baby last year in Maryland and got baby's naija passport in two hours at the embassy.
#myopinion

I thought u can only get naija passport in newyork, Washington and Atlanta
