The truth is that monogamous women are scared, they can't bear the thought of sharing their husbands... They know that polygamy threatens their tranquility, that is why they are all here contradicting themselves, excuse me, if I want to marry 3 wives, i'd let it known, if you don't want, marry someone else or divorce me, which of us is the selfish person here, me who wants another wife or you who wants to hold me into accepting what you want against what I want... Holding down a polygamous man to a monogamous marriage is selfish in itself.. wonder why those who oppose polygamy are mostly monogamous women, monogamous arrangements suits them just fine, it favours them, so ya'll don't have the right to talk about selfishness, if you recognise the right of men marrying other willing men, then you shouldn't bother with men marrying numerous willing women...
Men do not even have a problem with women marrying more than one husband, the problem is, how many men are willing to become a second husband? Anyway, if a woman can find them, she's free to marry them....
Polygamy/polyandry should be legalised..

Please everyone here i want to ask a question and i need y'all guys opinion:

After the legalization of gay marriage in America,i have read so many opinions about the matter, but one thing kept ringing in my mind is others calling those who do not support this development hypocrites.

Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have have sought out many inventions.

What is hypocrisy? An expression of agreement that is not supported by real conviction..

How can you be an hypocrite for not supporting what you don't have conviction in. The people calling others hypocrites are the REAL hypocrites.. Some of them do not even understand the LGBT relationship but only want to follow the norm to be seen as modern.

Should we also call them hypocrites when a man decides to marry more than 2 wives and they condemn the act outrightly

There is a thin line between same sex union and different sex multiple union. One involves putting a lock in a lock while the other is putting a key in a lock. If the same sex union can produce a natural offspring without external manipulation, then we can take it as a natural order. Polygamy and "gayism" are both age long practise frowned upon by God. With the daily re-interpretation of marriage, polygamy is the least of our worries..

especially if it is a Christian brother or sister involved;Yet we have Christian gays?

There is a clear instruction from God to Christians on same sex relationship. Anyone that willfully violate the instruction openly disregard the law of God. A Christian always seek to please His Lord.

Should we call those opposing polygamy hypocrites? If they have conviction in their opposition, NO. And if they have no conviction in their opposition, YES.

Caitlyn Jenner, gay marriage legalization, ISIS - these are just signs of the end times (shhhhhhhhhhh if you dare say this too loud, you will be called a conspiracy theorist or a holier-than-thou, self righteous......)

Combining what Coogar, Damiso and Lolad has said and you will have an idea of what's true happening. The true idea of marriage keeps getting unpopular everyday, woe betide you in the West if you have decide to champion what you believe in rather than modern day movements. And we haven't even started, humans are marrying animals, dolls, trees etc they call it marriage and want the same rights

...and Bellong has summed it up...

Let's even leave bible out of it.. The mainstream media can like to talk out of both sides of the mouth ehn.

Everyone was #jesuischarlie in Jan cos the attack was unwarranted and horrible.Everyone was raking you can't defeat us , you can't take away people's rights to freedom of speech bla bla.

Fast forward to March Steffano Gabbana gave an interview that he felt children were better off in the traditional family of a father and mother. He is even gay o but that's his opinion and he was not talking to anybody directly.Elton John sha made himself the gay parent advocate and waged a Twitter war. Within hours zillions of celebrities had joined and #boycottdolce&Gabbana was trending for days.

Like seriously another person is not allowed to have a different opinion? Did he say Elton John should stop being a father to his kids?No he just made his own belief known. Everyone tried to browbeat him into an apology for having a different opinion.

I've asked this repeatedly.... How many women are clamouring for polygamy? They are the ones being acquired. So how many are actually willing to be 2nd, 3rd wife, etc..

How do I tell them it's unnatural, when a country like the US (that was known to love Christ and that was what kept them together) has legalized this immoral act.
I feel sad for my kids generation.
Soon other countries will follow suit. embarassed

You've not talked of the ills of your country and how you'll explain them to your kids, your're talking of a far away country.

How Damiso? If one leaves the bible out of it, one will either join them or run mad trying to explain it.
How does one begin to rationalize or explain all these end-time events? See ESPN bypassing true sport heroes and picking Bruce/Caityln instead. How else does one explain that madness?

I am glad Steffano called their bluff when they were threatening to boycott his labels. Those guys are ready to devour even their own. It's as bad as that.

Same thing happened to Snoop Dogg who was bold enough air his views on Caityln and Akon, unfortunately, he still had to bow to pressure and brought down the post. It's a lonely world out there for anybody who wishes to speak what he believes. Kudos to Ben Carson.

Polygyny is just really all about the man so I don't see how that should be compared with homosexuality.

Till it can be proven that people aren't born gay, will I have a rethink on the matter and even so, I don't see how being gay affects non-gay people, so what's the noise really all about?

Y'all talk about inbreeding being legalised and all, was it not okay in the time of Jesus? What's new in this our world? Abegi.

I said lets leave the Bible out of it because not everyone is a Christian.

I am looking at it more from the angle of free speech or everyone being entitled to hold their own beliefs even if it is contrary to what you believe.

Imagine the reaction if it was the other way round, and someone said children don't do well in Traditional mother/father families. I doubt it will even be news. People say marriage is crap all the time, people say Christians are nutters who believe that snakes can talk cheesy , people say all sorts that's why they say there is free speech. Free speech is not only for when the person is saying what we want to hear, free speech is sometimes having to listen to stuff that you don't agree with but being civil enough to disagree without trying to ram your opinion down the other person's throat.

In my opinion as much people say the west is a free world where everyone can believe or do what they like as long as they don't hurt anyone, its actually far from the truth. And in some instances that's a good thing as some speech can cause offence to others e.g. se.xism, racism and even homophobic hate speech e.g. all gay people should be shot . However, its beginning to cross the line into the force feeding esp from the LBGT lobby group when simply saying I believe marriage is between a man and a woman is seen as homophobia.

Explain how it's all about the man, are you saying there are no women who willingly engage in polygamy?

Same way polygamy doesn't affect people in non-polygamous unions.

Err, has it been proven that people can be born gay? undecided
Please provide the scientific study while at it...

Y'all talk about inbreeding being legalised and all, was it not okay in the time of Jesus? What's new in this our world? Abegi.
Inbreeding was okay in the time of Jesus? shocked

Anyway, it's not really about anyone supporting inbreeding directly...it's about spotting the obvious bias in criminalizing certain forms of sexual deviancy while legalizing others when at the end of the day, they're all sexual deviances regardless how much they try to paint it.

That two consenting adult males/females decide to have sexual relations with themselves causes harm no one else is the same way two consenting adult siblings should be allowed to have sexual relations as they're also not harming anyone else.
And that a man decides to marry more than one woman when the women involved have no qualms about it is enough to make it legal also...or who are they causing harm to?

That a homosexual has no control over who he/she is attracted to despite being of the same sex is the same way a man/woman can have no control over being attracted to a relative despite their blood connection...so what exactly is the problem?
A polygamous man also loves women so much he wants to marry more than one legally, is it his fault he likes women a lot?
Isn't it better he married them legally than having side-chics and babymamas all over the place? Why is this illegal then?
As a matter of fact, the man with tons of side-chics and babymamas is really more Godless and immoral than the one who marries them legally...so again, what exactly is the problem with that?

There's no argument in favour of homosexuality that I can't counter with a 1000 different points or dissect in 10 different places (pardon the exaggeration) grin

Still hoping you show a scientific study/proof on how anyone can be born gay without it being some malfunction in their genetic and biological wiring...
In fact, homosexuality should be reclassified as a mental disorder.

How about you stop looking at it from a man's perspective and look at it from a woman's perspective also? Aren't we trying to be fair to both parties?

Conduct a census here on Nairaland and ask the females how many of them would really and truly love to marry polygamous men.

That's the thing, the women who are vehemently opposed to polygamy know this, hence their distaste for it.

No matter how pretty or gorgeous a woman is, the probability of her finding two men willing to be married to her legally at the same time is very slim...almost impossible if she's not living in Kuwait, Zimbabwe, or India. gringrin

But even an ugly man with the bank account of an Egyptian Pharaoh will have no problem getting at least two women.
Heck, he doesn't even have to be filthy rich...just comfortable and blessed with the tongue of a serpent is enough to get him two wives - but trust women to refer to other women in polygamous unions as having low self-esteem...forgetting that wanting your man to yourself alone because of fear that he might begin cherishing the other woman more than you, can also be seen as low self-esteem.

You mean on this same Nairaland where we have feminists who have never gone out on street protests or carried placards for their cause?
On this same Nairaland where some women have claimed that when they get home from work, they don't cook because their husbands came home first?

Bro, conduct a survey on Nairaland at your own peril...most of these folks on here lie out of their teeth and you will never get accurate results.

Why don't you take a look at the real world instead and count how many young girls/women have and are still dating married men, do you not know that most of them will readily jump at the opportunity of being wife number 2?
Some even plot how they will dethrone the first wife and become wife number 1...
What about the ones already in polygamous marriages? I'm pretty sure they never had that aspiration in life of being a numbered wife.

LOL.

Dude, you still aren't saying much.

My question is, do women actually agitate for polygamous marriage as men do?? Are there women who would really wanna be wife number 2, 3, etc? It's as simple as that. If there are, and the numbers are well enough for the courts to look into when they start with their petitions, trust me the US would very much look into legalising it.

Men shouldn't be the only ones gaining from polygamy.

you arent saying much yourself, women are more desperate for marriage, they dont wanna be single, a man marrying more than one wife is actully helping out, call that community service grin grin
how are only men gaining from polygamy, when the women marry him willingly, the women gain, apart from the fact that they now have a husband who they can boast about, she automatically becomes a home owner, all the assets he has acquired when she was still pounding egusi in her mothers house becomes hers too, just because she is married to him grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
plus if you feel only the man gains from polygamy, you simply do not marry a polygamist, let other women who do not have a problem with being second wives marry him......
women cannot say they want monogamy and insist that men who do not want monogamy must be monogamous.....

in dat case, the women should be agitating for the legalisation of polyandry as well and not for the criminalization of polygamy....
women clamoured for equality and not for a criminalization of the rights enjoyed by men....
why cant you keep a balanced argument?

I see where you are coming from and i also see where i am coming from.
How many women did YOU personally ask if they wanted to be in a polygamous marriage?

Who has ever conducted a survey?let start by that then we can know for sure.

Okay i picked this from a site, this is what this said about polygamy:

Aisha (not her real name), a divorced single mother with two children, recently chose to become a second wife. She was introduced to her husband by a friend. She says that at first she was hesitant. “I was like, ‘No, I can’t do it. I’m too jealous as a person. I wouldn’t be able to do it.’ But the more that time went on and I started thinking about it, especially more maturely, I saw the beauty of it.”

They agreed on the terms of the marriage by email, covering details such as “how many days he’d spend with me and how many days he’d spend with his other wife, and money and living arrangements”. They then met twice, liked each other, set a date and were married. Her husband now spends three days with Aisha and her two children from her previous marriage and then three days with his other family, unless one of them is ill, in which case he stays to help but has to make up the missed time to his other wife.

She confesses that “if he was to stay all the time I’d love it”, but says that having time off “is definitely beneficial in some ways as well”. She has “more freedom” to see her friends and her family, and it is a relief “not having a man in your face half the time, when you are cranky, and he can go somewhere else and you can manage the kids on your own”.

Now if we have 10% of women who think like her, isn't it enough to go to court and legalized it?How many gays do we have in the world?Do gays make 30% of the population?

You're talking of what they should be doing...not what they're obviously not doing, which is supporting men in agitating for polygamy.

undecided :-

What balanced argument again, please?

men do not need their support for polygamy, men never supported gender inequality, men only require that they do not try to sabotage their efforts....

a balanced argument would be "since men allegedly gain more from polygamy, we should also agitate for polyandry to even thing out"

Alas, the average woman is selfish, even they do not like polyandry grin grin
they want us all to stick to their preference angry angry

I see where you are coming from and i also see where i am coming from.
How many women did YOU personally ask if they wanted to be in a polygamous marriage?

Who has ever conducted a survey?let start by that then we can know for sure.

Lol. you're the one crying out foul about polygamy. So you do the job grin

I'm certainly fine with the gay ruling and the fact that women should not be used as properties of men grin grin

I am not? grin my question was quite simply in the beginning of this thread. Personally none of this is my business,my business is that those who support homosexuality should not judge and condemn those who support polygamy.

People should be left to live their lives happily, as long as they are not stepping on any ones toes.If a man wants 2 or 3 wives,he should be left to do so as long as the women are happy.

shouting lawd have mercy would not make your argument sensible....

no one is getting married off, its a matter of choice, if you dont want to marry a polygamist, then dont... there are women out there that are willing to do so.... And we are talking of the USA here, no one marries off anybody....
i repeat "marriage is a choice" you hear me so....

Explain how it's all about the man, are you saying there are no women who willingly engage in polygamy?

Same way polygamy doesn't affect people in non-polygamous unions.

Err, has it been proven that people can be born gay? undecided
Please provide the scientific study while at it...

There is no woman in love willing to share her man, I am assuming love and compatibility is why people get married, the women in it have accepted it as normal because it is what they've been subjected to.

The internet is at your disposal, you can help yourself to some information, you certainly don't expect me to start worrying my pretty head over homo issues, especially as it doesn't even concern Nigeria, duh!

If something is wrong in their biological wiring to make them gay, whose fault is that?

There's nothing moral about marrying more than one wife for christians.

Siblings having sex is not a good idea as chances of having a genetically fecked up baby is very high.

Yes, it was okay in jesus's time, abi no be jesus be God again? Read your bible I'm sure you'll find siblings that screwed themselves, cousins also count.tongue

If I am not mistaken, I believe we are saying the same thing just that I see no reason to leave the Bible out of my explanation. I see no reason why everybody else should be free to expresss and practise what they want (freedom of speech) but Christians are expected and encouraged to keep any opinion based on their faith aside in consideration of others.

Pls lemme stop here before I am termed an overzealous or extreme Christian. issssshhhhh

I agree with you .

I was just pointing out the double standards of 'freedom of speech' ni . Of course as a Christian you should be able to express your beliefs in tandem with your faith I.e. Marriage is between a man and woman. But no 'freedom of speech' no reash that one.

Mock people's religion and beliefs and they complain quickly say 'we are entitled to freedom of speech'. why are they being overly sensitive lipsrsealed

Person with religion says what they believe, they are zealots undecided
