Contrary to common presumption in Nigeria being handsome doesn't necessary place the handsome looking ones in a privilege position regarding certain niceties in life as everyone erroneously assume, as a matter of the fact it's the less gorgeous and ugly looking dude that tends to benefit more.

Had it not been for naijaboiy's frontpage gracing topic on this same subject I still wouldn't have found the impetus to share the following conversation between I and a babe who despite my overtures kept refusing my sincere endeavor.

If you are a cute looking guy going through this issue, know this, you are not alone.

To Debby:

What I am trying to explain to you earlier on is based on what has happened and is still happening to me, recently being you. It is really not weird to me that what I'm about to explain seems to be only peculiar to Nigeria and I noticed it’s due to certain psycho-social factors.

I have long ascertained that the chances of an handsome guy here in Nigeria to successfully woo-and-hook-up just one babe is very slim to that of an ugly or less cute-looking guy would woo-and-bed several babes in a year simply because it is a common believe though a misconstrued one at that here in Nigeria that any fair-skinned/light-complexioned or handsome guy is by default a womanizer, a lady-killer, a Casanova, thereby setting we cute-looking guys at a disadvantage because he is automatically assumed to be a playboy who is presumed to have several girlfriends at his disposal, all because of an incorrect assumption that their facial attractiveness is beguiling, while the ugly or not-too-cute-looking guys are seen as someone who should be more committed and likely to be faithful in any given relationship.

But in the Nigerian reality it's the ugly and not-too-cute dudes who end up getting laid more often than the handsome looking ones. Why again? Because the thought process of a Naija babe automatically execute a mental application that constantly reminds her that "after all this Dayo is not that good looking enough like those very handsome, super-cute ones who females readily falls head over hills for" and so does she never suspect him of having not just one but multiple sexual partners if the relationship is even strictly a bedmates one, much less of being a two-or-more-timer in a committed relationship.

This is what I was explaining to my friend (Emeka) the other evening, analyzing the whole thing for him since he felt puzzled as to why my other friend (Kunle) with his charcoal-dark skinned, thick lips, flappy bodied, oblique face guy could manage to have strafed all those babes he bragged on to our ears about while I and Emeka were so into the soccer video game. I, very much understood that Kunle's unwarranted continuous mouthing in that moment was his way to compensate for his lack of affinity towards video gaming like most guys have.

So later on as I escort home my friend Emeka who only just came by for the first time and also happen to be meeting Kunle for the first time kept wondering aloud to me as to why we can’t even boast of such enormous enormity despite our good-looks n clean to which I told him that it’s not as if our Naija babes might not eventually accede to the wooing efforts of handsome looking guys but only that she’s gonna make him try so extra, extra, phucking hard to prove beyond any doubt whatever he says or whatever emotional flux his troubled by (lol).

I went further to inform him that my theory even satisfies the reason why some cute-looking guys who hasn’t developed or worked on their babe wooing skill end up been gay and why more very handsome guys patronizes brothels these days due to sexual frustration because they just can’t stand the rigor required for swaying average Naija babes.

In conclusion I told him he best not be feeling dismayed since his own case also has to do with his lack of confidence to approach and initiate a tasty conversation with an opposite sex, so I told him of the only alternative which serves as an exception to my theory been that - if only those cute but timid Naija guys were rich or financially buoyant, then he wouldn’t bother to say much since money also speak louder through measure of material possessions or extravagant flaunting (yes 95% of our females are drawn by it, no offense) but then again such upper-hand is not exclusive to handsome/cute-looking guys alone.

It gave him great relieve when I concluded to him that we should rather channel our focus towards been financially successful as soon as one understood well the situation here in Nigeria unlike in a normal country where babes don’t care if you are dead gorgeous or hideous, rich or poor, so far you possess certain qualities ranging from been a sex stud to been skillful, talented or brilliant, hooking up is as easy as ABC.

To substantiate my theory for him I ask him to mentally revert the gender role as thus - why do some guys feel so insecure and or jealous because of their very beautiful girlfriend knowing well that other guys definitely must be attempting to have her, so they’d rather date or hook-up with not-too-pretty babes, some even prefer the peace of mind marrying an ugly lady brings to their heart, this is one if the reason why many pretty babes end up doing pornography in the USA and the so called runz-girls here in Nigeria because every guy thinks she can't be faithful because they too falsely presume she’s too pretty to stay loyal to them on the possibility that there are other guys out there with more money, wealth, etc looking to entice her attention to their side.

No, it's way beyond insecurity. It's just an absurd way of thinking on the part of those majority who're like that.

If by 'everywhere' you do mean all over the world, I kinda disagree.

See make I yarn u...being fine can also be a state of mind. In Eminen's voice on the 3rd track of D12's 2nd album "Leave That Boy Alone" if you believe say u fyn you fine. If you believe you ugly, you're ugly.

Just because you think you are good looking, girls wont turn you down, then you are in for a big shock. The same way girls turn down not so good looking guys is the same way they turn down the good looking ones. In other words you need more than your good looks to woo a girl. Its normal every where, so no surprises. tongue tongue

Everything has to do with a good game or at least most of the times.
Guys like David Beckham, Idris Elba are good looking and babes are always flocking arou d them. Their do called handsomeness is does not drive chicks away. I guess it's the kind of babes that come their way.
But it's not all about good looks though. When you are doing very well and making good money, you'll be valued more.

The topic isn't about normal babes abroad, the topic is about the reason why this is peculiar here in Nigeria. If David Beckham and Idris Elba aren't even successful, babes wey go like them go like them for whoever they want to like them for, or whatever they chose to like them for even if they're more good-looking than they are. Look at the topic this way, say a Will-Smith looking Nigerian dude with a promising future but that which doesn't display in his fore-head would be expected to over-prove his worth even by the most silliest of a naija babe. I hope you get the drift now.

Op. Seriously. You're very very correct.
Most ladies think I have 30girls that I'm dating when I have none.
Several girls even ask me "how many of us are after you o"....... When they are all running away cos they think I'm a player.
And when they ask me about my relationship status and I say I'm single, most girls wanna curse me cos they think I'm lying and trying to decieve em into dating me.
Heck! I'm single right now and my ugly friends get laid like it's air.
There was a girl that I was wooing then that said "see, look for another girl, there are many other girls after you, sorry I can't date you" bish tot I was a player.

I feel your pain bro, same here believe me. And please don't say "...girls" as if it's a worldwide thing, it's only exclusive to Nigeria and it's not a phenomenon it's a psychosocial issue. . . so let's say "Nigerian girls". I heard Ghana babes don't behave as such. BTW this thread ought to be on frontpage, don't you think ?
