Please does anyone know if the consent form has to be notorised in the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria or can any lawyer do it? I need to be sure. Thanks

If your are referring to the consent form for baby's passport you need to consider the state/agency because based on people's experiences some states only accept the one notorised at the embassy

any lawyer can do it but it must be d same date d father signs also cos I rememberd dey returnd mine cos d date my hubby
signed was diff frm d lawyer own.so he had to do another one nd resend tru fedex.

@sucre25
With regards to the consent form. It all depends on the state you are going, some states accept forms notarised by any notary public, while others acceppt forms notarised only at the us embassy.
Point of correction.its not any lawyer that can sign the consent form o,the person signing has to be a notary public.
I would advice you to just wait till you put to bed and tell your husband to do it at the us embassy,i even heard they can help you send it directly to the pasport agency in the us (i am assuming this service is free) if so,this will even eliminate cost of sending it back to you in the us

Hello House!
I'm a mum-to- be at 24weeks grin and have been a silent follower of this forum for months now. The info garnered from reading through the pages have proved invaluable, so thanks to everyone who contributed. I firmly believe that all the weeks of jotting down notes, copying pasting and printing information from this site really helped a lot.

DH & I went to US Embassy Abuja & the interview went something like this:

VO: Good morning
DH &I: (bright smiles in place grin): Good morning.
VO: How are you two related?
DH: We are husband and wife.
VOsadtyping many things on computer) What's your purpose of visiting US?
ME: To have my baby.
VO: (continues typing) Have you ever been outside Nigeria?
DH : Yes, just returned from Brazil where I attended Rotary convention
VO (looks at me) And you?
ME: Ghana and thats about it
VO: ( peering at monitor) Sir have you ever been petitioned in the US before?
DH: No I haven't.
VO: (staring at my Oga with suspicion) Were you petitioned in the US in the year 2000?
ME: (Ha! Petition ke! Enemies of progress from my village, una don wake form sleep Abi? Holy Ghost Fire!!!! Consume them, Consume them!)
DH: No, I've never been petitioned.
VO: Do you have any male relative who lives in the US?
DH: My father lived there for several years, he's lack in Nigeria now
VO: (typing away) what to you do?
DH:I'm self employed, i do blah blah blah...
VO: And how much do you earn monthly?
DH: between *abc* and *xyz* depending on how market is
VO: And your wife, where does she work?
DH: She's a govt worker
VO: How much does she earn in a month?
ME: N *******
VO: (looking very skeptical) How will you afford the cost of having your baby in the US?
DH: We have savings.
ME: And family support.
VO: You've got family in the US?
DH: Yes, my uncle. He sent an invitation letter. I have it right here...( reaching for document in envelope)
VO: (looking bored) I don't need to see any document
VO: Where in the US will you be visiting
DH: Houston TX
VO: How long will you plan to stay
ME: My first appointment is in August, will be there till December.
VO: Do you have any correspondence with the Hospital.
DH: Yes we do. Dr's appointment letter at West Houston Medical Hospital payment bills for hospital including Dr's fees. (He hands them over and VO sorts through)
VO: Excuse me, I'll be back in a moment (she goes off somewhere and returns after 2 minutes) You can pick up your visa next week. Make sure you collect receipts for all hospital payment. You are not to use public utilities like health insurance. If you do, we won't issue you a visa when next you wish to travel. Have a safe trip.

It took all of 10 minutes to the glory of God Almighty!!!! cheesy cheesy

Now unto the next step : ticket booking and travel

I'm Houston bound and have heard a lot from this forum about the POE (amazingly good and bad alike, I'm hoping for the amazingly good one sha!)

I'm also needing advice on where I can buy compression socks in Abj, approved Naija food list I can carry along (pepper soup spice and things) and how I can select option of wheelchair service on KLM flight.

Finally if there are any October Mummies in the house who are going to WHMH, hola @ ur girl. I need support structure lest I perish from boredom in obodo oyibo as DH is not coming until baby is due.

Thanks in advance kiss

Hello Peeps,

This platform as really been of help to me so I think I should share my experience briefly;
I applied for visa alongside my husband on our virgin passport and reason being that I was going for delivery and we were granted visa. My poe was DFW and it was very easy ( I requested for wheel chair).
My Dr is Glenn Morgan and hospital was Houston Northwest Medical Centre. I got bills for Doctor, Hospital, Pediatrician and Pathologist; I spent approximately 6500 USD for normal delivery including epidural.
I lodged at Intown Suites but discovered I would have stayed at Studio 6 at Bammel Westfield Road. Studio 6 is closer and walking distance to the hospital and Dr's (depending on your energy level). Kroger, Babies "R" Us, DD's Discount, Fallas and other stores are very close to Studio 6. It is possible to get all documents within a week post delivery. I went to Downtown Houston and got the BC within 30 minutes, I booked appointment and got Passport same day and with the help of Tanko, Visa can be gotten within 48 hours.
God is indeed faithful.
Thanks to you all and I wish us all the best.
Cheers!

Hi maypra, Congrats. Pls can I get Tanko's number. I will also be using Dr. glenn and hnmc. Kindly help a sister please.
Do you have any nanny's number too.

Hey there

I opted for a payment plan - I was told I had up to a year to pay up however I settled the bill fully a month later.

Oh and my aunt who lives in Sugarland raved about the hospital - and less of Oakbend...she is into hospital administration in the Houston area...

You may want to get in first, visit the two hospitals and then make your decision.

Cheers

Thanks alot anonymousmum.. I guess thats what I'll do - get wifey to visit them first & maybe take a tour before committing to any. I'll be staying with family in sugarland and I know that both hospitals aren't far of. I'm actually leaning towards methodist sugarland, its just the extra bills issue that is scary and it seems that it happens to every1 that used them.

Anyways, many thanks once again. Regards to the lil one.

And den by the way, just to clarify if you paid for both the doctors fee and hospital bill and if the payment receipts was part of the proof of burden you presented to the VO. Did the VO check your bank statements at all?

Which doctor will you be using too? I am a September mum and will like to hook up with you.
