Hi everybody! I have a lot of questions to answer today! But many of them are non-immigrant visa questions (students, tourists...) and not immigrant visa questions. I'll direct those questions to the non-immigrant visa thread at https://www.nairaland.com/1792662/u.s-non-immigrant-visas-listening .

Also, I see a lot of private message notifications. Please, don't PM me. I won't even read those messages. Please ask your questions here, or direct them to LagosIV@state.gov. Thanks!

Please VO, i am new here and i really want to take out to say a BIG THANK YOU for taking out time to attend us. god bless you.
my question is, my case has been completed on June 16th, 2015 CR1 and upto date no interview date from NVC. my husband who is my Sponsor and Agent has called them several times but no answer. we were hoping for interview in August.
please, i would love to know if NVC is done scheduling interview for August?
please, i would also love to know if Lagos Consulate are full for August?
my patience is running out, i know some applicants case have been completed before mine but the level at which am going crazy is beyond my control.
thanks in anticipation for your kind response.

NVC hasn't sent us all their August cases yet -- but, that said, I doubt they will send us very many more at this point. We still have openings in September, but it depends how many cases are in NVC's queue...

Pls when is this DV comunf up again?so that i can pertake in it.

Nigeria is no longer eligible for the Diversity Visa program.

The purpose of the DV program is to diversify the immigrant population in the United States, by giving applicants, from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States in the previous five years, a chance to immigrate. So people who are born in any country that has sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States in the previous five years are not eligible to receive Diversity Visas. That number -- 50,000 -- was chosen in 1999, and the people who chose it were not thinking of any specific country when they chose it.

So, as of this year, Nigeria is no longer eligible, because in the past five years more than 50,000 Nigerians immigrated to the United States (more than 10,000 each year). I've read rumors that Nigeria was "banned" for some reason, but those rumors are not true. It was a purely numerical decision.

I doubt that Nigeria will fall below the 10,000 per year threshold any time soon, as our workload is growing every month. But, if for some reason the number of immigrants does fall dramatically, at that point Nigeria could become eligible for the DV program again.

Hi VO i hope you can answer my question genuinely. I am a senior officer in a bank and i and my wife intend to apply for a visiting Visa before the year runs out on a virgin passports.

I have never travelled out of Nigeria. I have a family of four and live in my own house. Is it true that i will be denied a visa because its a virgin passport? What are my chances that i wont be denied.

When applying what are the necessary documents that i must come along with? Will be glad if you can provide more information.

Regards.

@visaofficer is there any scheme in the US similar to Canada's skilled worker migration?

Aside from the Diversity Visa program (for which Nigeria is no longer eligible), there are some forms of employment-based visas for skilled workers, advanced degree holders, priority workers, and persons with exceptional ability. Please see http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/employment.html .

Hello, thanks for the good work. my dad filed for me in 2010 as a single and i got married in 2011. i went for my DNA test last year. the result was positive but i have not heard from them ever-since.
my question is how longer will it take for them to get in touch? is there a way to check?

Yes! Please e-mail us at LagosIV@state.gov and ask for an update. We'll need your name and case number.

and what happens to the application when i inform them i am now married with children since my dad filed for me as single.
thanks for your anticipated response.

If your father is a U.S. citizen, your spouse and children can be included as derivatives. Your visa category will change to F3, though, which has a longer waiting period than F1s. If you father is a Legal Permanent Resident, unfortunately there is no category for married children of Legal Permanent Residents, so your case will be closed. I have to add that sometimes applicants attempt to hide their marital status from us, which is a very bad idea because we do check, and if someone lies about that, they incur a permanent ineligibility for material misrepresentation. So it is always in your best interest to be open and honest about these things.

Are you applying for a non-immigrant visa or an immigrant visa? In either case, you should let the officer know what your correct date of birth is.

My dad just got approve few month ago...so he just taught of taking me with him to the US very soon, he will be sponsoring me!...pls is there hope for me to get my visa?

It sounds like you are an intending immigrant, so you are not eligible for a B1/B2 visa. Your father can file the I-130 petition on your behalf, so that you can immigrate legally. Please see http://www.uscis.gov/i-130 .

when my mum filed for me I was still single but now and married but when I went for the visa interview with my kids I was denied the visa based on the fact I had a F1 filling instated of F3. I remember sometimes in 2012 that I did fill a form with Uscis letting them know I am married.. My question is what should be my next step to take? Do I contact USCIS directly or what? Thanks

Your visa category has changed from F1 to F3. The case will remain open until it is current as an F3. Right now F3 cases filed on or before March 15, 2004, are eligible to be scheduled for interviews. You can monitor your priority date at http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/law-and-policy/bulletin.html .

Please I have an issue my husband filed in for me as a spouse and he is a US citizen since January, the case is still pending with USCIS. Why is it taking this long

Because there are hundreds of thousands of petitions filed every year. As soon as your petition is approved and it is documentarily complete, you will be scheduled for the next available interview.

I waited patiently for a response which I didn't get. I contacted kcc but they couldn't give me any reasonable answer. I just want to know what went wrong and why I wasn't contacted even after winning and filling out the required forms correctly. Thanks

My guess is that even though you were selected, your rank number was so high that you were never called to an interview. 50,000 Diversity Visas can be issued every year, but many many more than 50,000 entries are selected, because several applicants will not qualify for various reasons. But when we reach 50,000 visas, or when the Sept. 30 deadline rolls around, we have to stop for that year. That means that not everyone whose entry is selected actually gets called for an interview.

Good evening VO! I'm new here and I find this trend quite timely and helpful. My question is on my approved I-129F form my fiancee wrote my name as Okoro, Abel Ochuko, but on all my documents including my passport n birth certificate my name is Okoro, Ochuko Abel will this in any way affect my chance. Also how long is the form I-129F valid. Also what type of question should I be expecting at the interview

The name variation you describe won't be a problem. If you receive a visa, the name on the visa will match the name in your passport.

The I-129F petition is valid for four months, but officers have the authority to extend them if the person can't quite get an interview before the expiration date.

You should expect to be asked about your fiancee and about the development of your relationship.

Good day @VisaOfficer

I and my siblings got bounced at the consulate last week and were issued the 221(g) letter thingy.

We felt really bad though because we had anticipated getting our visas.

Please what might have gone wrong?

NB: this is our second outing. During our first screening, we got into a mixup with the petitioner thing. Thinking it's our mum filing for us, while it's our step dad.

After getting bounced the first time, they requested for some documents (tax, credit card details and all) which we provided during our second outing.

To our dismay, after submitting the documents, we weren't even interviewed. We were just given back our passports and the 221(g) letter.

Please do reply (typing with a heavy heart)

Thanks.

The cases will be returned to USCIS for their review, and they will contact the petitioner and give him the opportunity to respond. If his response convinces USCIS that visas should be issued, they will reaffirm the petitions and return them to us. Otherwise, the cases will be closed, and new petitions will need to be filed on your behalf.
