@AkayTopsy, did u buy directly from the company or through a 'middle man'? Im based in the FCT, if i have to order from the southwest where most hatcheries are, whats d payment modality? Can i pay at delivery? I would appreciate it if u can share your supplier's contact details. Thanks.

I buy directly from the hatchery. zartech no is 08055990399. Call the guy and ask him to send u their account no after getting the price and available date it is as simple as date.

Mind you tpt of the birds is on you but you can plead with him to help you give the birds to the regular drivers that bring birds to fct. communicate with the driver whom you will pay the tpt cost on delivery as to where you will pick ur birds. SHIKENA

He meant 370/kg, so 2kg of a life bird give you 740.

The dressed weight of the same bird give you between 1.4/1.5kg. let assume he sell it at #680 to the eateries, 2kg of the same bird at 1.5kg dressed weight will give you #1020. So 1020-740= 280. It is from that 280 the guy would substract all his running expenses(transport, workers, fuel, etc) to get his net profit.

I'm not try to defend him, his prize is indeed small and that was why i asked him to add something. But anything from 380 upward is still ok.

Like 'fnk' it would be better for anyone to raise and process by his/herself but you can't have enough birds to process, that is the fact.

Gotya!

How do u process because that's what I want to do. Farm Process and sell

The truth in business or production is that the more things go through process, the more valuable it becomes. In my farm I have a processing house, there we have a de-feathering machine that can de-feather up to 15 birds per minute, we have a long granite table with 3 big stainless sinks, we have a big gas burner to boil the water. So, the guys kill the birds in batches, soak them in the hot water for about 1 minute, then put them in the de-feathering machine, within 1 minute all the feather comes off, they pick them up, put them in the sink and remove any stubborn feather, clean the chicken, remove the guts cut off the head, neck and legs. rinse them off and put them in a cooled clean water, from there they are placed in the packaging bags, we have couple packaging machines, one is mostly used for cut chicken and the other for whole chicken. Most of our chickens though are packed in whole. They are labeled, weighed and priced. In my precessing house, we have 3 freezers to hold newly processed chicken, from where we send them out to our outlets and or the our customers.
Depending on the orders, we can process about 400 birds in 2 hours.

Remember, this is a mom and pop operation, but it can keep body and soul together as a business.

I thought you were the one. Well, i think #390 upward is not that bad especially if DOC is below or not more than #100.
you are right, but I got ma birds for 160, thats why its not possible to sell for that price.

@icemania in addition to reading the entire thread. I will also suggest u do a mock investment in your backyard and raise few birds to maturity. that way you can get small experience. All the best.

Eggcelent:
davies427. Heat affects how well birds take up their feeds. That's why it's advisable you feed them during the cooler hours of the day. Besides, feeding laying birds early ensures they concentrate on laying during the peak hours of between 8 & 10am. If all the variables are right, the best time to supply your birds with all their feeds for the day is around 2 hours to lights out. Doing this will ensure they eat about 60% of the daily requirement & have sufficient feed in their crop for the relatively long night period. They will then eat up the rest as soon as day breaks and thereafter focus on giving the eggs. However, rat/mice infestation makes this difficult to practice in Nigeria. Notwithstanding, feed your birds as early as possible; 6am is ideal if you are not in the far North where the Sun rises earlier. AkayTopsy. Your question is coming a bit late. However, in addition to feeding them ad lib for the first few weeks, ensure the brooding pen is well heated. Otherwise, the chicks will convert the energy needed for growth (adding weight) into developing feathers as a way of fighting cold. Hence, they won't attain the standard weight at the appropriate time. Success.

Are u saying its better to feed the birds more in the evening. Lets say I have birds in the cage n they eat 5bags daily, so I should give 2bags
In the morning and 3bags in the evening. What happens when the feed runs out between 10am to 3pm

Trueigbo. Birds adapt to whatever feeding regime you adopt. Yes, it's better you give them their feeds in the cooler parts of the day only; early morning & late evening. And at least 60% of their daily feeds requirements should come in the evening. Between 6 in the evening when most birds would have finished their feeds for the day & 7 the next morning when most farmers give morning ration is a period of 13 hours. Birds need to have sufficient feeds stored in their crops for use overnight to compensate for energy expended in eggs formation; a process which is usually consummated at the night hours. adebamtech. Such a nice project you have there. I'll suggest you limit the turkeys' access to the pullets pen. The former are carriers of NCD which is dangerous to pullets. Meanwhile, you will be well advised not to expand beyond your present capacity as doing so may lead to issues with heat stress, especially between November & March. Success.

House, please, what causes a laying bird to develop a purpleish (light blue) face/wattle? And what are the suggested treatments? Thanks.

Eggcelent, from sources i have read, a purplish face/wattle might indicate a respiratory illness or a heart condition; it may also be seen when the weather is really cold and also in fat overweight birds. Questions would have to be asked whether only one or several birds are affected; whether it is only noticed when the layer is active or persists even when at rest; whether or not there's also difficulty in breathing and facial swelling; whether the birds are overweight? Consider feed reduction for overweight birds, warmth during unduly cold conditions +/- application of vaseline on their wattles; a source suggested putting aspirin in their drinking water if a heart condition is suspected as it helps and it is safe; and when a respiratory illness is suspected especially when the purple/blue wattles are noticed with difficult breathing & cough, d specific cause shud b identified and treated. A vet's opinion may be sought as well. My theoretical 2 cents. Im quite certain my elders in the house will throw more light sir.

I don't know how you guys do it, I process my birds and sell to entries at N680/kg and to supermarkets at about N1000/kg. I don't know how anyone can sell at N370, it must have been chickens raised with hormone booster, because I cannot understand how anyone can raise bird to 2kg with obviously less than N370. If you are not using hormone booster or super medicating them to get them to 2kg under N370, please share your raising process. As some of you already know, I do not use any medication on my birds apart from the lasota and gomboro that is given to them within their 10 days old. This way we raise premium birds, So even at N680, is a give away.

Sir I saw your post and I am indeed excited. This is the line of business I am dreaming about. I want to raise broilers, process and have outlets to sell them. Can I visit your farm please? I will be very grateful. I need a personal discussion with you so as to know everything I will be requiring. I am convinced you won't let me down.
Thanks a bunch.

Sir, I still maintain my point that you don't need to sell the birds especially the Batch B. smone on this thread experienced severe drop in production as a result of administering ivermectin. He was adviced to use vitamins and the birds are bounced back two weeks later.
