TRUE.. power plants are not built in 3 months but one thing you GEJites seem to be forgetting is that power plants don't operate by themselves. They run on some form of fuel or the other; in Nigeria - water and gas, gas being the majority. The main reason why we are seeing a rise in power generation is the reduction/end of gas pipeline vandalization which was achieved by PMB the cancelling of the security contracts the former govt had with Asari Dokubo, Gani Adams and co. Despite the fact that these security contracts were subsisting in the previous govt, pipeline vandalization was the major reason the past govt gave for lack of gas to power our generating plants.

So therefore building more power plants with no gas to fire them would have made the power plants a white elephant project. You cannot but agree that PMB has to take some credit in the surge in power generation by taking important decisions to avert pipeline vandalization.

Like someone said above me, if GEJ were still in power, the pipelines would still be vandalized by now and all we would hear is the same old story of pipelines being vandalized and the govt was seemingly powerless to do anything about it, despite paying millions of naira for security contracts to some undesirable elements.

I agree with you on the issue of gas pipe lines. But the security contract was awarded few months to the end of GEJ' tenure as a result of perceived weakness of our Navy and other forces saddled with the responsibility of safeguarding them.

Common sense is the only thing I see lacking here. Who says Buhari built power stations within 2 months? Impunity is what we're talking here, it's gone! Buhari will not tolerate the impunity GEJ tolerated. You cannot be starving power stations of gas just to divert the gas and sell it at the black market and make money for yourself, then come to tell Buhari stories that gas pipeline vandals are the ones preventing gas from reaching generating stations, except you don't like your job and freedom. Meanwhile this was a story you could tell tell GEJ and get away with it. I keep saying, use your common sense and understand why people called GEJ clueless and kicked him out, just simple common sense will do here.
Story for the gods!
Impunity indeed! If you believe that, you'll believe anything.

At least if you're not aware of the level of impunity under GEJ, we are. But there's no hurry, you have all the time till 2019 to experience the difference. I want you to take a good look at FIRS IGR from 2010 till 2014, then come back in 2016 and compare, even with the dwindling oil sales. Do same for NNPC.

Customs, NPA, Police etc still loading... Nigeria started working since May 2015, you'll realize with time, no hurry

Keep quiet, boastful propagandist! Integrity wetin, if opponents should start today to vandalize gas pipes as done no other place in the world, power will drop! the issue of diversion of gas is a lie as historically, power plants and industries share gas allocations depending on profitability and pricing.

Not coincidence that you ignored by earlier post though.

Opponents indeed. I've never heard this kind of excuse anywhere else in the world, where opponents will outman government security forces and be vandalizing pipelines successfully, how many did GEJ catch anyway? Even when he switched military for militants to protect the pipelines, the vandalism continued, are these "opposition" spirits? Common sense brother!

The truth about the power issue is that the pdp Govt from the time of Obj initiated all the Power projects which continue thru Yar adua and GEJ, but the same pdp due to their indiscipline and corruption could not make power sector function effectively, this is what everybody knows.

Buhari is just a man who allows Govt agencies function the way they should be [e.g. EFCC, ICPC, NNPC and so on] this has been the weakeness of the pdp past Governments.

PMB deserves all the credit, only biased minds think otherwise.

It won't, but Even if it happens (God forbid), they will not be tagged "opposition" but common criminals that they are. It's only in GEJ's government that a criminal robs and he's tagged "opposition", it baffles common sense reasoning. APC is simply a political party like PDP, not a criminal organization. Forget all the propaganda. It's just a case of a bad workman who keeps blaming his tools.

Make no mistake about it, Buhari will be judged by his achievements in office, that is, number of jobs he's able to create, how he controls the impunity of corruption, level of insecurity, how he sustains and improves on infrastructure/electricity etc. I'm confident he'll deliver and even exceed expectations. No president can runaway from his judgement day, GEJ could not escape it even with the highest propaganda media employees in Nigeria's history. Yes, those hundreds or thousands of bloggers hired to sing praises of him couldn't save him, Nigerians are much wiser.

Needless judging him on the July deadline on insecurity?? Let's hope for 10000mw addition to the national grid from his completely new power plants in 2 years, high speed rail lines across the length and breadth in 4 years, corruption?? hope that would involve trying Amaechi, Tinubu as well or only PDP??
Sustaining/Improving infrastructure?? thought none was built by the corrupt regime?.... Jobs? no N5000 handouts and/or free school feeding.

Let's hope some will not be bent on blowin up gas pipelines as it would definitely distract this government, even if you call them criminals, saboteurs or opposition!

No, Buhari did not build any power plant. Even if he wants to build now, it is very likely it will not be commissioned before the end of his 4 year renure because it takes time for power plants to be installed.
OBJ built and awarded the contacts for those new power plants. Some were completed and commissioned before the end of his tenure. Some like the Olorunshogo power plant were to be installed in phases, some phases he completed and commissioned before the end of his tenure. It should be noted that most of these power plants are gas fired. You can't have power even when you have power plants but no gas for it to run for onward transmission and distribution.
under the last regime, the power sector was faced with many problems that mainly bothers on lack of oversight. There was a lull in spate of work on the yet to be completed power plants by the contractors because of corruption and lack of government oversight. the government was deceived hence few weeks to election, the rush by Jonathan to commission both already commissioned and uncompleted power plants.
There was no supply of gas to those power plants due to corruption. Probably the gas gas were diverted by the officials and blamed on vandals. Tell me what do vandals want to do with gas pipeline? Have you ever seen a BLACK MARKET GAS before? dispensing gas requires specialized equipments as it is not like oil pipeline whereby you just vandalise and begin to scoop.
The politicians and power officials deceived the government (for corrupt person gains) and the government inturn deceived the citizens. During the rainy season when the hydro electricity dams and power stations are working, they tell us that power has improved due to government effort in increasing power generation but during the dry season when water is short in supply and power drops, the tell us that the opposition and vandals are vandalizing the gas pipelines and sabotaging government efforts to ensure stable power supply.

HORSECRAP! !! I say again HORSECRAP!! The Olorunshogo Power Plant you even attribute to OBJ was something of an expensive joke because there was ZERO facilities to pump in much needed gas to power that plant. It was GEJ that BUILT the gas supply system across the nation via the GAS REVOLUTION & was responsible for building the new phases for SAME power plant and other existing plants, PLUS the new ones brought online. Add to all these is the upgrade and expansion of our transmission grid (new transmission towers, lines and substations), authorization by NERC to State IPPs to distribute locally (all very first in our history), outsourcing of TCN to a reputable Canadian firm (Manitoba Power), massive distribution of step down transformers (Prof. Nebo's FIRST instruction), construction of new distribution substations, and FINALLY the unbundling and privatisation of PHCN which led to the elimination of govt inefficiency in running the utility sector and the introduction of private sector participation.

One more correction: GEJ began to commission the MAJORITY of the new power plants TWO YEARS into his administration, NOT a few weeks to the end. Every power plant commissioned at the last were the last completed before he left. Even at that, there are a number of Dams in advance stages of construction (all initiated, planned, payed for, and executed by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources) with power generation capabilities.

So PLEASE spare us all the extra made-up BULLSHYTE and blatant LIES.

The fruits of GEJ's work manifested long before he left. The problem was that people like you were so blinded to this thanks to your passionate hatred for the man. Now you think GMB "miraculously" transformed the power sector in just 2 months?! With what? The "fear of GMB"? No master plan, no money sunk, no new power station on his watch, not even a single bulb.

You dey mind the propagandists? they think all Nigerians will genuflect for their false logic. Truth is: power supply was boosted as a result of immediate stoppage in gas vandalism.

In the fullness of time, we would ask them to list the power plants started and completed by the APC government. let's see how they spin it.

let me enlighten those who care to know. i read comments of those praising Obsanjo for building the NIPP plants. no doubt Obj conceived the project in 2004/2005. it wasn't known as the Niger Delta Power Holding Company. it was just a contracting company that was given the initial funds to construct new power plants the power plants constructed where: omotosho 334 megawatts, papalanto 334 megawatts geregu 434 meagwatts and Afam 400 megawatts. note that these power were all taged 'phase 1" they were plans to construct the phase two of these plants before that National Assembly began to challenge Obj on the rationality of wasting funds by siting power plants where there are no known gas reserve. would power plants sited in states like Ogun and Kogi with no gas reserve run on water? that was the question that was raised. Obj rounded off and handed over to his successor, Yar'adua who suspended these projects due to the distortion and allegation of financial impropriety. it was GEJ who came in convinced the National Assembly as well as the state and local government on the need to continue this projects and begin the construction of the phase two of these power plants. Federal, State and Local government contributed a quota of their monthly allocation to Niger Delta Power Holding Company which realised eight (cool billion dollars from the contribution. this enable them to embark on the building the phase two of these projects which included: omotosho 500 megawatts,(phase two), olorunshugo 775 megawatts (phase two), geregu 434 megawatts (phase two). in addition to that GEJ ordered that new transmission and distribution lines being built to accomodate this new quantum of power that will be generated from these plants. Gej in 2011 also began the construction of Alaoji power plant in Abia 1074 megawatts, calabar power plant 500 megawatts in cross river, Ivohbor power plant 500 megawatts in Edo, Ogorode 500 megawatts in Delta Gbarain225 megawatts in Bayelsa and Egbema 335 megawatts in Imo state. note that these are states are part of the NNDC with adequate gas reserves to power this new plants being built. Jonthan went to china to secure a loan from the chinese exim bank to construct a hydro power plant in Zungeru 700 megawatts in Niger state and secured 500million dollar eurobond to build gas pipelines that will connect the entire power plants being built. the contract was given to Oilserve Nigeria Limited, an indigenous company owned by my name sake Emeka Okwusa to do the job and the project will be completed in 2017. if you doubt me, browse: www. ndphc.com.ng for more info. those saying Jonathan is only commisioning Obj's projects are fools, Obj builts plants with no plan for gas collection, how will they fuel it, is it with water? no transmission lines to evacuate the power generated. it was GEJ who ensured all power that will come from these new plants(both the one constructed by Obj and Him) can get to the ingrates called masses. people are praising Buhari that hasn't inaugurated any new projects since he came to power. tongue cool smiley
