I remember my childhood years in Navy camp site Apapa lagos. The neighbourhood was like a nice american neighbourhood with houses situated in large plots of land with each house fenced by christmas trees. The next plot from ours had a crazy dog called bully. Bully had the colour pattern of a Rottweiler/GSD mix and was a female. The whole neighbourhood was scared of the dog. This dog was so wicked and fearless that it could chase you right in your own plot of land. I remember how it chased I and my friend right in my own compound for no damn reason. While the dog was on me, I made sure I ran closer to my friend just to shake the dog off me and ensure he had a share of the chase too, a thing he also did. This made the chase very long, but along the line we realised that the dog was no more behind us.

Bully later became pals with me when it gave birth to a single pup as it always does. First was Jimmy, which was given to a neighbour but later became a dog for whoever was willing to feed it. Second was Tigress, whom the owner's son cried tears to prevent his dad from giving it to me cos the pup was very beautiful. Then came the third single pup which was handed to us.

After the owner gave the pup to us, bully wouldn't let go. She turned our house to her home because of the pup as I fed her from time to time. This gave me the opportunity to touch Bully . Days latter, she took the pup away and we never saw both of them again.

The neighbourhood became free for kids to play

Haha. Nice story you got there. I got chased by a Rott once. I was jogging in one of the neighborhood streets at about 6am that weekend, and just I passed this house on the street, the dog bounced out and followed me. I looked back and noticed the house gate was open and this hulky Rott was behind me, chasing and barking at me, although at some distance. If you see fear wey catch me hen! I just turned my jogging into sprinting checking my back until I heard a shout from the back and it was the owner's. The dog froze. It had already chased me for about 1 kilometer.

Or, was the dog even a Rottweiler? Na big dog sha!

I experienced it once when I was about 7 years old. I was running an errand for my mum and decided to choose a shorter route. I was singing and excited for a reason I cannot remember. Then I passed in-between two uncompleted buildings. The fences were so narrow like typical Lagos buildings.

Suddenly, I looked up and saw a dog staring at me. Then it started walking towards me. Very narrow wall. I froze. I stopped singing. I started crying. The dog walked closer looking mean and angry. I ran. The dog barked and ran after me.

Then I fell. The dog charged towards me and barked right at my face. Then it climbed over me and went the other way.

For a young child, that was a terrible experience that gives me goose bumps each time I remember. I refuse to forgive that dog and every other dog. I cannot simply love a dog. It has become natural. I was disrespected, ridiculed and bullied by one of them without an apology!

As a kid, I was always scared of dogs! They looked so scary gosh, I always avoided them.

But this fateful day, I was to discover myself. Mum sent me out to buy some stuff from the other street. On my way back, I heard the "bark, bark" from behind... Looking back, I saw a ferocious looking beast staring at me.

Ómo na dat day I know say I fit run pass Usain Bolt! I ran to the extent, I couldn't feel my feets touching the ground, and people who witnessed it claimed that, they couldn't see my legs (I knw they were joking sha )
Like say that one no reach, I fell into a shallow grave losing #500 and my kito slippers in the process

After that experience, I had to man up to animals in general!

The only detail I rremember is that I was ontop of a volkswagen beetle that I can't remember how I climbed during the 'hot chase' for close to an hour and the ogbanje dog kept barking and running round the car. I cried for Antarctica.

People just kept laughing o, till a lady brought me down and took me to my gate.

close to my crib there is this house owned by 6 dogs the aggressive once are capon and bull once the gate is opened you have to stay were you are no movement one Faithful day normally me and my pals do gather up by 3:30pm for football so the ball started for like 20min my friend (ak) was with the ball and i was close to him make i change English na so the gate open the owner of the dog was driving out those i was playing ball with quickly climbed the nearest tree they shouted i and yemi name before we could turn back see the two dogs i could not move my feet when i looked at my friend(ak) he was two building away i followed in the running they ran after us my busstop is just like express road you have carefully for us there was no time to look we just ran across the road i didn't know when i passed my mom shop we were faster than fast and furious what was ringing in my head was (run,dog,run,dog) on the marathon run with the dogs we can across an opened gate and closed it with full speed after some minutes the owner came to take the dogs away when we got to my mom shop she was like were we the one that ran we said yes she started laughing saying what she heard was zoom,zoom(i and ak) we were running like fowls

We were playing backyard soccer. And the ball went under a tank. I rushed to pick it up without knowing that a dog was under the tank. As i stretched my hand under the tank, the dog barked...it scared the hell out of me and i hit my fore head on the tank support. Unfortunately for me, it was iron and my forehead ended up bleeding seriously.

you can do that for a fearful dog this no talk no eye contact don't work for some dogs mine don't need to look at your eye or body movement she looks at your feet your 1st to your 4th (foot steps) if its too confident she attacks if its too weak she attacks you have to be in between before she can let you be she is not just a dog she is a guard dog some dogs don't care about body movement or eye contact

I live in fear of dogs. I remember this one time me and my best bud (also a nairalander) were walking back from church with my siblings. This tiny little pup started walking towards us which made my friend hide behind my 11 year old brother. it then proceeded to give us the chase of our lives.I shall never forget it.

There was this compound at igbo-elerin okokomaiko called white house. Whenever a car wants to go inside, pray you are never caught close to its gate or anywhere on the street where the house is. Why? Immediately the gate flings open to let the car in, about 20 hefty looking dogs bounce out and make a dash to the end of the street and back. My house was close to the building so it was huge fun watching people scamper for safety .

The dogs were local dogs but well fed and looked burly and hairy than most of what we call GSD today.

We had one cute dog, but very mean to unfriendly people.
One day, one alhaji that always goes to look for a corp member near our house was passing. This dog (probably sensing this man kurukere waka ), jumped out of under our car and tore his babanriga!! Mumsy had to speak all the hausa she knew to pacify the man.


Another time, one Igbo ma (Oga America), came to buy egg from us and saw this dog peacefully sleeping o!! He now asked in igbo 'this una dog, e de back so? '
The dog jumped out and began barking at him ! The man had to climb our car and was screaming 'Nkita unu na a nukwa Igbo ' (you dog understands Igbo)
