Let me start my response by stating that I went to a private (primary) school. The school cost five times than a government school. The reason is that the govt buys materials for the govt schools and pays the staff too. Your private school has to buy materials and pay staff salaries....without government subvention.

RCCG is a large church (For the record...I used to attend a RCCG church....but that is not why I wrote what I wrote). It has to pay salaries of its church staff, as well as run lots of welfare projects. (And RCCG churches run welfare projects well well). They also have to establish schools....and all these schools have staff, and needs. And even though everyone pays their tithes...the money is not enough.

Which is why I am not pleased with the jet purchase. But even then....if Adeboye wanted to run a university properly....he would need $100million or more. I doubt the annual income for RCCG is up to that....and they still have those obligations they have to fund. Funding a university is not cheap stuff. As someone mentioned here....it costs lots of money. Universities are not secondary schools.

The point I am making is that if you want your schools to be cheap....that means government takeover. And the schools won;t be funded well enough because the govt already runs too many schools.

In my opinion, university education is not cheap. Which is why I support the govt giving loans to students...which would be payable at a good cheap rate over 25 years.....to fund education.

If you think Adeboye is still exploitative....try founding your own university....and try paying staff salaries from fees of N20000 per annum. You will be bankrupt in minutes.

Let me now analyse your points

Putting points 1 and 2 together, the question should be why do we set up schools? Is it only for the church or for the nation at large?. If we set up these universities only considering church members, then only Winners members should be in CU and only redeemed members should be in reedeemers and we can't have winners members go to redeemers and vice versa.
Remember that years back, we had issues in getting admission into govt universities even when you passed Jamb?, these private universities has help to lower the pressure of getting admission. We have graduates yearly from private schools. Let us not restrict our scope the church members but the NATION in general

As for missionaries setting up schools, remember that you can't compare the population we had in the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s and so on to the current population now thus it was easier. Mind your University of Ibadan was the FIRST UNIVERSITY created in Nigeria in 1948 so what the Missionaries set up were ELEMENTARY schools, so that's knocks off your point.

When it comes to helping poor people, let's ask ourselves as individuals; How many individuals on our own( not relatives) have we taken responsibility to support their education?. The church is helping to solve a problem one side, what are we individuals doing on our part? Don't let this things be a church thing, church thing always..

Harvard is the best and many other top unis around the world are owned by PRIVATE individuals coming together, but is it CHEAP? No

Jesus said in John 12 v 8, 'For the poor you have with you always...' So even if the church use all tithes and offerings to support the poor. We will still have them and people will continue to talk

In summary, university education is not cheap, let's look at the nation at large

Because running a private school in Nigeria.,....when the government is not funding you, or providing power or water for you....is that cheap...not.

Adeboye runs schools, churches,welfare projects, and has to pay salaries for staff and pastors. He also has to fund church buildings.

Meanwhile....it costs $110 million to run a university properly per annum. (American unis spend at least $250 MILLION).

I am not happy with our pastors buying jet.....but to say that they are exploiting their members via school fees is far from the truth.It costs money to fund a school properly. And while I rather Adeboye spend the jet money on the schools....it still won't be enough.

You pay low school fees in your govt owned unis because government pays billions to subsidsie you. Now...imagine if that subsidy is taken away....
