I would have supported that the practise be banned because many posters spam every thread on FP with their demands.
But considering the humanitarian perspective, a section should be created where those in need can ask for help.

Well well well, Nairaland is not a charity site, all those who want to come and ask for money here should just look for a suitable place. Seconded

You won't experience problems that's beyond you capacity to deal with ...undecided

Seun:
We have no really reliable way of distinguishing between genuine needs and those that are not genuine, so I would appeal to people with such needs to rely on other channels of support such as their family members , friends, and churches.
You called it asking for help (in other words begging). They don't have, they choose to beg rather than thief or scam.
You should be talking of those who try to scam. Anyone who choose to beg should beg, whether is genuine is not for us to judge.
If someone comes online and ask for help, it is not by force to give. Anyone who choose to give is doing so willingly. Giving willingly should be appreciated not discourage.
Stopping people from lending hand out of the abundance that God has given them is not the right thing to do. Who knows if someone here might be saving a future hero.
Please, I don't think this is a good suggestion. Instead of banning it, create a section where all demands should be directed and dealt with. What are Nigerians for.

Hmmm.. I think what u need to do is to get like a small long banner done and stick to each top page of every forums ''telling everyone to investigate any investment they want to go into before commitment as nairaland wont be held responsible incase of any loss'' Then, attach a link underneath it further stating the do's and dont's before commiting onself into an investment on nairaland.

Just my opinion...

Seun:
I hereby propose to create a new rule that forbids anyone from asking for money for money - especially investments and donations - on Nairaland later today. The enforcement of this rule will completely block the activities of many scammers. Any objections?

I second, i only feel sorry for those with genuine cases, but as it is scammers have taken over the forum, people need to be protected from them. It's unfortunate that when a wicked person decides to play a fast one on another, he doesn't care or even realize that he is negatively affecting sincere people by his actions.

maybe, or rather no
Re: Rule 22 Against Asking For Money On Nairaland by Jarus(m): 6:36pm On Sep 20, 2015
This is double-edge sword. As an active member of TEHN, the voluntary network of Nairalanders that decided to coordinate linking helpers to the needy on Nairaland with considerable achievements so far, this rule will not be welcome.

But at the same, I understand where Seun is coming from - abuse of such and damage to Nairaland reputation if anything goes wrong.

Yet, I don't think throwing the baby away with the bathwater is the impediment. Just stricter.

After all, I'm not aware of any case of fraud from donations yet, all cases of frauds on NL are from businesses gone wrong. Do we ban businesses (eg auto section deals) totally because of this?

In the final analysis, it is your discretion.

Seun it's like telling people not to help or give. Why not make tehn the official means of soliciting for fund or help?

why should it be banned? when there are people who are capable of helping and are ready, why should you make a rule to stop people given help on a large forum like this, I pray you don't fall into a terrible problem where Nairaland family will be your last option for fund.. then you'll realise you single-handedly dashed your hope....
well I am not surprised too, since the "owner" of this forum shows less charitable spirit towards helping people in need
I dont even know his business with those who are asking money, there are millions out there who need help

Many have abused this forum. If seun is trying to stop the activities of scammers, then also place a ban on doing business here too. That's how the scam happens mostly. If its just a person asking for help, its the headache of whoever chooses to reach out and help. That could actually be a last resort to someone in desperate need of help. Most times family and friends offline are just there for decoration. The much needed help comes from where you least expect it.I am not saying I support it,but no one knows where the pendulum of life would swing the next second!

Nairaland is more than a website, it has evolved into a community. While I strongly recommend that moderation should be made on post and request, outright banning of certain action may pose threat to the survival of this community in the future. When the bans are too much, the interest and fun in Nairaland may be killed. Members should be careful not to fall for scams. God bless Nigeria.

thanks ma'am.. Nairaland became a family then (so sad we lost him) I think Mr Seun needs to review his new rule... saving lives through his platform is more of a blessing to him.. people with genuine needs will always present a concrete evidence.

Sir, your ban should not extend to those seeking financial assistance on their HEALTH

Nairaland might be saving someone someday...

I'm not in support. There are many genuine causes that would need people to donate e.g the late Ddjola. Life's all about caring and sharing as these are the bases of love.
bro who's late Ddjola was he/she member of nairaland?

Seun this is my opinion, this is a forum yes but for some its gone beyond that...its become family. Placing such a rule is in some ways very wicked as everyone has a right to make requests and its for us to accept or reject as moral beings and not being placed behind a brick wall without have the luxury of our own input.

As they say, people are innocent until proven guilty, that law would affect fake and genuine alike and thats a bit harsh. Your supermod should be able to work for his or her pay and not having this easy but harsh way out.

Such a law would be draconian. You used the word "proposing" lets all discuss this because the innocent are being judged and affected for doing nothing wrong yet.

My 2 cents.
The fact is that, scammers have utilized this technique as their means of scamming. Members complain about getting scammed almost every day and such a thing is bad for this forum.

If there's another way to quench this menace, your opinions are highly welcomed.
Re: Rule 22 Against Asking For Money On Nairaland by Nobody: 6:39pm On Sep 20, 2015
It should not be stopped. The bible and quoran encourage us to be kind to one another. Jesus was kind. He fed the poor. Let's go and do likewise.

I support this move Seun, there are way too many scammers roaming this forum already. If care is not taken, this site might turn to become another OLX.
