Months later after exams he travelled to Lagos for the short break. It was just two weeks. He was excited to see little Asmau again. Carrying her up, he made her sit on his shoulder.

“I missed you!” he said to her. She chuckled, pulling his eyes. “And you too mum.”

Mrs. Animashaun was in the kitchen but she heard him clearly. “We’ve not forgotten the car issue.” she said

“Car? What car?” he faked ignorance.

As usual Asmau took out the diary from Sadiq’s back pocket. Hopefully he didn’t write anything about his encounter with the non human.

He didn’t want the holiday to be a waste so he made sure he had an avalanche of fun before he went back to school. He visited all the fun places in Lagos and met with several old friends who had just arrived to the country.

Few days later he went to see a movie with an old friend. Afterwards they went to the beach for a walk, which was where he saw her! He couldn’t believe his eyes at first and momentarily he was sure it was her. There was no way he was going to call her, no! He avoided her and told his friend they should leave.

“You won’t believe who I saw today.” said Sadiq to Vanessa that night.

“Jennifer?” guessed Vanessa.

“Yes.” he affirmed.

“Did she see you?” she asked.

“No. I avoided her.”

“And how is she?”

“She looked pretty good. She obviously has been taking care of herself.” he replied.

“I wonder what she is up to. She has been really quiet these past months.” said Vanessa.

“Could it be that she has actually changed?” Sadiq reasoned.

“Don’t tell me you are falling for her trick too!” Vanessa said.

Jennifer had been busy, busy doing what she does best. No one knew for sure, but one thing that was obvious is that she loves crashing parties. Both those she was invited to and others that she wasn’t.

It was on a Saturday, she was invited to a wedding. The bride was a friend of her friend. She wore a native attire that complimented her body, looking as exquisite as always.

The venue was at an event center in Surulere. She came in a cab and alighted, standing outside while dialing her friend’s number to inform her of her arrival.

“Hello.” a slim young man said to her. He had walked past her several times, unloading a car full of drinks. Jennifer imagined that he was hired to supply drinks for the wedding.

“Hi.” she responded making it obvious that she didn’t want to be spoken to.

“My name is Tosin but you can call me Kross.” he introduced himself, extending a palm of friendship towards her.

She ignored the handshake extended towards her.

“You mean your name is Cross?” she asked, her phone pressed against her ear as she waited for her friend to pick up.

“No, it’s Kross with a ‘K’.” he corrected her.

“Okay Kross with a ‘K’ how can I help you?” Jennifer asked, almost rudely.

“I saw you standing here and I couldn’t help but say hi to you.” said Kross.

“Okay. Now that you’ve said ‘hi’ you can leave now. Go, shuuu.” she order and gestured as though she was driving away a flock of hens. She knew he wanted to hit on her, she couldn’t imagine such a low life, some guy who supplies drink would even think he can have a chance with her.

Kross stood there with two cartons of wine resting on his hand. He felt embarrassed and humiliated.

He faked a smile. “Nice talking to you.” and he left.

The wedding was grandiose and was attended by high profile people in the country. Jennifer soon joined her friend in the big hall which accommodated more than a thousand guests.

“You can’t miss the after party.” Jennifer’s friend told her when she was getting ready to go home.

“I think i have had enough excitement for one day. I need to be somewhere important tomorrow morning.” said Jennifer.

“True as that may be i won’t advise you to miss the after party. That’s the time to mingle with the guest and get some connection. You obviously need that considering how your career stumbled even before it began.” her friend insisted.

“Okay then, since you insist so adamantly.” Jennifer gave in.

“Yay!” her friend shouted excitedly.
