Innovate or die. I pity the traders at computer village. Very soon no one will be coming there to shop. Wait till Walmart and target hit Nigeria. With their warranty and money back.

Noting will happen to computer village business is Walmart comes to Nigeria.

Computer village is a DIVERSIFIED ICT market, you get what you paid for.

I have been shop @ Otigba for the past 10 years and nobody has ever harassed or stolen anything from me.

@OP next time you are harassed go back to the shop you bought the items from they know those boys very well and they will talk to them.

Thanks though.

Sorry for your ordeal OP.
It is quite a shame that people are blaming you.
You were harassed/ intimidated and defrauded right in front of law enforcement and they are blaming you for dressing nice!?
This is why Nigeria will forever be in shambles. We hate the truth!

Perhaps one or two persons would relate to my ordeal after sharing.

I went to the Computer Village at Ikeja on Saturday, 17th Oct, to purchase a head phone I had longed to get for a while now. I had an example of what I wanted in mind and was not ready to compromise my stand on this.

I had also made up my mind not to go too deep for security reasons; computer village touts/area boys are more concentrated in the farther part of the market and being harassed unduly was not just it for me.

The first shop I visited just by the bridge didn't have what I wanted and the guy therein cajoled me into buying something else which was not just it. I wasted no time in trying out the next shop but I noticed I was being followed by 4 mean looking guys. I couldn't tell for how long I was stalked but it was pretty obvious something wasn't right.

Fortunately, I saw the "HD Monster Micro SD Player beats by dr. dre" in the next shop and wasted no time in bargaining. I paid, came out of the shop with the intent of moving towards the bridge, only to find out that my stalkers (now about 5 of them) had divided themselves like a pack of wolves who has their sights on a gazelle.

Seeing that it was becoming a nightmare by the minute, I moved towards some policemen who were around one of their vans under the bridge. One of the touts, supposedly their boss walked up to me while the others surrounded me in no time. Micro SD sellers turned spectators as well as passers' by. I could see the policemen looking at us from a distance. They were clearly unmoved by the scene, judging by the expression their faces.

One of the touts spoke up "a ti n so e lataaro" (we've been stalking you for a while). It didn't really come as a surprise but what I did wrong is what I couldn't picture.

"Oya, fun wa l'owo!" (Now, give us money!) Their supposed head retorted. It was a dream. How in the world would touts harass someone in the presence of policemen

Quite scared, I told him I didn't understand what I had done to warrant being "fined". At my words, the minions were ready to attack me but couldn't as their boss calmed them. Obviously angry at this point, he said "a n be a so lero, o fe gbo. O fe ka gba gbogbo t'owo e, abi?" (We have told you calmly, you don't want to listen. Do you want us to take everything on you?"

The crowd had increased by this time and they watched helplessly while the policemen didn't move a nerve. It was at this point it dawned on me what I was up against. Without wasting time, I reached for my wallet which was carefully tucked away in my pant's back pocket and offered them #500 but he (their supposed boss) refused it, claiming my money is #2000!

I was baffled. I tucked my #500 away and gave them #1000 which they collected and started stumping a foot each on the ground as they sang my praise. I heaved a sigh of relief as I quickly proceeded to leave the scene. It was pretty embarrassing to say the least.

I shared my ordeal with a friend yesterday and he confirmed he had faced something similar. His case however was shocking. He claimed he resisted and the policemen "arrested" all of them while he "bailed" himself with #2000 without going to a police station.undecided

Please be wary of these touts at Ikeja. Some officers of the NPF have no life.

Lalasticlala, please help raise this awareness.

It's the Gospel truth. And it has nothing to do with being a big boy or not. My ordeal was the first anyone would narrate to me. More so, seeing policemen just few feets away from us and they comfortably looked on while those touts flocked around me caused me to think really hard even while they flocked around me.

At some point, I thought they were cultists who were only brandishing their egos, probably because they're known around the market and its environ.

I frequent computer village a lot and that was the first time ever I'd see such happen. Hence, my fear.

But you don learn na ba Lol...next time tear eye for them, they can't do you anything... as you see them na them fear pass... I know how many times I don tear eye for them.. anytime I go there I dey see them Lol...I still see one today, as e see me e commot face Lol..

Lol. Op they wanted to chop their own share ni. But just like some people have said it was probably obvious to them that u r an "ajebutter". I rem when area boys tried to harras me at Oshodi very early in the morning last month. I had to drop a "voice" for them to show I wasn't a novice even tho my looks almost betrayed me. But they ended up on their task and freed me. I quickened my steps and faded out of the area. U can take a cue from this too.

My case was different. I left school for lagos so that I can raise fund for handout. I got to computer village with a view to selling my handset to raise fund. Lckly for me I saw a guy from my maternal home who offered to help me sell the handset to avoid being duped. He offered me chair whoile I was waiting for him. To cut the story short I never saw him again. I was crying at the computer village when a good samaritan gave me some cash to takecare of my transport to ojere. I will never forget that day. One lesson I ve learnt regarding computer village is make sure you visit confirmed shops not road side. I know about affordable, slot. Wale , etc be mean in ur face whenever u enter there.

I was helpless. I needed not raise an alarm. It was in the open and the policemen stationed at the place were close to us but never deemed it fit to move an inch. It sincerely dawned on me that onlookers won't do a thing knowing fully well that officers of the NPF were looking at us at that point in time. I couldn't believe it, even after the scenario. It was like a movie.

This's not a valid reason not to raise alarm at that point. As busy as that place is, onlookers may mistake the scene as just men bargaining the purchase of a product or maybe having a mild dispute over pricing. How old are you?.
