Have never being to London but I hear one of my uncle says he takes metro train to work everyday, a journey of 3hrs hence my view. Abi how many hrs journery is Ilorin to Lagos.

I also witness man hrs wasted on Ikorodu road, while the inland water ways is under utilised. For instance we have pple living in Ijede when their place of work is VI.

His brothe Barrister Sapara Williams was the first Nigeria Lawyer.

Sopona, I learnt Sopona ravaged Ijeshaland for years in those days before they found remedy. So it was this man that provided the remedy. Nice one, local disease requires local cure.

Till now, some local Ijesha people still use sopona to curse someone. They would say "Sopona La Je Ojure or Sopona La Pa Ooooo". My people can rain curse on themselves.

You are doing a wonderful job ProfShymex.

I hereby give you a Chieftancy Title - The Okanlomo of Yorubaland.

But I thought Sopona was the Yoruba word for 'smallpox'! shocked

Okay. But are they Yoruba and do they see themselves as Yorubas? Also, do they speak a language that's intelligible to Yorubas?

And which one are you from - the Yoruba side or the Edo side?

I careless about any clan that does not make effort to identify with the mainstream yorubas.

Though majority always write their ethnicity as Yoruba

Ok

I remember Queen E (forget her name). Losing her daughter to childbirth changed her.

Efunsetan. she was not a queen.

She was very mean because she did not have any child. She was very rich and powerful. She has many slaves and she was always maltreating them. She was the Iyalode. More or less like the Leader of women.

Then, she was controlling the route between Eko and Ibadan. The egbas and ibadan always deal directly in trade through her. she was an agent/middleman. She usually takes a certain percentage from both sides.

She was bold, confident and very intelligent. I do not know whether she wwas pretty sha.lol

I think you have to blame Nigeria for that. The Itsekiri one is the funniest one, especially when they speak Yoruba and they still have clan that're proper Ijebu waterside clans. Heck, their history shows that they're Yoruba. As for Akoko, I don't know much about them - so won't dabble into a topic I'm clueless about.

Then with Kwara - I think Yorubas need to allow Ilorin folks join the North. Those folks have nothing to offer Yorubas, not even resources. I don't even see the as Yorubas, to be honest.

Ilorin was part of oyo empire, more important than many s/w town back then and when we talk about resources, kwara state has many solid minerals, Google is ur friends and I think they have more than ekiti because I don't think ekiti has much as well

Train, ke?? In Nigeria?? In fact, anytime I think about rail transportation in this country, I feel like crying. The management of NRC needs to be overhauled.

Yes, the waterways are grossly underutilised in Lagos, Ogun, Osun and Ondo states. If you know the potentials being lost because the waterways are not fully tapped, you would be sad. sad

Lagos has even tried to some extent. They have constructed over 57 concrete jetties from Epe to Ebute-Ero, Ikorodu to Badagry. They have also licensed almost 18 boat operators to carry out water transport within the state. But this isn't enough. The operators have very few boats. I think only about 2 of them have boats that exceed 10 units. wink Yet, each boat can easily carry 40-60 passengers at a go. Unfortunately, their departure and arrival schedules are not publicised, or well known.

Others have fewer boats which are not well maintained. shocked This is where I think the states need to pool resources together and set up an intra state water transport system. Ogun State which is next door to Lagos has not even done anything about its waterways. Yet from Iwopin in Ogun State, is about 20 minutes to Lekki in Lagos by boat. In fact, if you stand at the waterside in Lekki and you are looking across the river, you can easily see Ogun state in the distance. undecided

If I had some mega bucks, I would just buy up the sea front property in Iwopin, build some luxury homes, leisure centres, conference centres, helipad and shopping malls, then connect everyone by boat/ferry to Lagos Island and Lekki areas in Lagos. cheesy
