iwella lies sound more intelligent and brilliant than buhari half cooked truths. Investors and foreign countries don't want to hear your bad side they want to hear what is good about your country enough to convince them to help you. You can't be a business man and go about spoiling your company products and expect to make profit. Buhari is the number one man and he has thebreaponsibilty of portraying our nation in good light to the internTional community . The truth is if buhari doesn't know these things then for goodness sake he has no business in that office. By the time this man buhari spends 12months things may have gone out of control . He simply doesn't know where he is or what he is supposed to do. His statements and so called body ordour shows a man who is catastrophically confused

ochejoseph:

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has drawn the attention of Nigerians to the ‘harmful consequences’ of the unabated negative statements from the very father of the nation, President Muhammadu Buhari, on the economy and the general image of the country.
The party said “it is worrisome that in the last six months, the President, instead of making efforts to harness resources and grow the economy, has rather continued to apply himself, perhaps unwittingly, to demarketing the nation and scaring away investors through negative labelling of Nigerians and unwarranted unhealthy portrayal of the nation’s economy”.
The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, on Sunday said the President’s unwary statements have become very serious clog in the wheel of progress, eroding the confidence of both domestic and international investors in the Nigerian economic and social system.
“In the last six months, our President has only succeeded in discouraging foreign investors with his continued misrepresentation of our country as a business unfriendly environment, where most of the citizens are basically corrupt, dishonest, and cannot be trusted.
“Whereas we have restated our total support for the war against corruption, we insist that Mr. President’s unceasing blanket negative labelling of citizens, in a country where millions of honest and hardworking individuals/firms are genuinely contributing daily to the development effort, is indeed a disservice and injurious to the nation and the people.
“Furthermore, Mr. President’s recent announcement to the world that the nation, with its abundant human and natural resources, is broke and cannot pay cabinet ministers not only sends a discouraging signal to the domestic and international business community, but also exposes the ineptitude of the present administration to meaningfully and sincerely exert itself and work with industrious and innovative investors to create and manage wealth.
“We ask; how can any reasonable investor still have the confidence to invest in a country where the President himself continues to alert that his country reeks of corrupt people and that the government is broke to the extent it cannot pay cabinet ministers?
“Is the President not directly advising investors against having confidence in Nigeria and the system, and that they risk not being paid for jobs awarded by government at any level?
“More worrisome is the fact that Mr. President most times, makes his damaging comments in international fora with potential investors in attendance to the extent that reminds one of the proverbial father who, in the presence of potential suitors, often portrays his daughters as wayward and yet constantly complain of their inability to find husbands.
“Indeed, this is not the way to go, Nigeria is a country blessed with abundant human and natural resources. What we need at the moment is a serious, innovative and practical approach with the capacity to harness the resources and create wealth for the benefit of all, instead of an apparently laidback scapegoat tactics with outworn excuses and unhelpful comments.
“May we remind Mr. President that even in the darkest period of our economic challenges, successive administrations made efforts in steadying the economy, while always reassuring our citizens and the international community of the strength and economic potentials of our great nation.
“We know that in the desperation to cover its apparent lack of economic plan, this administration has positioned cabinet ministers, upon inauguration to concentrate on diversionary blame game on the past PDP administration. But even this political deceit cannot combat the unpalatable consequences of Mr. President’s damaging utterances on the image of the nation and its economy.
“Finally, we wish to remind the President and those around him that Nigerians, by the 2015 elections, have committed the fate of the country in his hands for the next four years and are not willing to accept excuses for any economic failures under his watch,” the party said.

I disagree with Metuh on this one,PMB's comments are proper for the moment.Do you think investors are not aware that corruption is widespread in Nigeria?Travel around the world and read comments about Nigeria in the past ten years and you will get the opinion of foreigners. Some are even advised to be careful when coming to Nigeria. So even if PMB likes let him praise Naija from head to toe the foreign investors and bankers who know the pattern of looting and cash flow/money laundering from Nigeria know the truth. What they want is a leader who would boldly come out and state the problem and won't bury his head in the sand by glorifying corruption by saying stealing is not corruption. They want a leader who can tell them the bitter truth and say he is doing something about it.Or you think JayZ that cruised on Kolla Aluko's yatch does not know the money was stolen through Dizzy baby? The Indonesian leader does not hide it when he mentions the havoc drug trafficking is causing in Indonesia but he accepts something is being done.PMB is right by acknowledging the problem or the investors will continue to think it's an 'old boy how now lie lie president' we still have.Wailers I expect more wailing in reaction to this but the truth is bitter. There is endemic corruption, branding or no branding, manipulation of statistics by voodoo economists or propagandist like Olisah Metuh to deceive foreigners the way they tried to bamboozle Nigerians will not work.Baba let them know you know the problem and you are fixing it!

There is nothing wrong in talking about the challenges of your country but there is everything wrong in emphasising of the so-called challenge like we are the only people facing such. The goal of the government should be to address these challenges and to convince investors of our plans and programs for that. Buhari need to help promote Nigeria. He doesn't need to lie!

btw...when did you last pay your tax??..if you even pay tax a tall....
You don't need foreign investment abi. That is what OBJ said and started doing from 1976. By 1999 he was on his knees begging them to come. Last week Cameron was on his knees before the Chinese president. Even the US continually seeks foreign investment. In the past one year 90 percent of my revenue has come from overseas as Nigerian component declines so I am not affected at all by the economy. Pally, I hope you are never placed near any economic decision making theatre.

I won't be surprise when his aides will debunk this statement, that the President was quoted out of context.

It is high time, the APC-led government stand-up to its responsibilities by more of actions & less of talks. I am beginning to believe that APC as a party didn't have an existing blueprint of Nigeria's economy, they're stalling to make out one now. We were meant to believe that their inability to kick-start with their policies & blueprint was as a result of the failure of past administration in submitting the handover note on time. But it is 5months now after handover, are they still studying the documents?

I hope the Presidential aides, will start teaching PMB the ethics in communication before this gets out of hand #Myopinion#

Goodluck Jonathan told Barrack Obama inside the White House that if Obama doesn`t fix Migeria, he wouldn`t be able to fix Africa. Can a worthy President say something like this, telling another president to come and fix your country for you,? If we remove politics from this, it`s easy to say that Nigeria is rarely led by people that know what to do and say at the right time especially when abroad
Somebody has hit it on the head here, that PMB should have the right kind of people to vet his public pronoucements
Once he went to Germany to meet his G7 leaders coupled with collecting $2b from America, you can easily see that this is not a President that understands this world and the role of Nigeria in it. But the truth is he is not doing anything that people like Obasanjo and GEJ haven`t done before

I guess buhari has no idea the consequences of negative speech to this country's economy. Even if what he said is what is happening currently, it should'nt be made known to foreigners, it should rather be an internal affairs. No wonder he was avoiding a lot of presidential debates during his campaign. Had it been Nigerians had better choice, he should'nt have been elected.
you said even if what PMB is saying is true he shouldn't say it so that the investors wouldn't know. This your statement proves that most of us are dishonest and cannot be trusted as Buhari pointed out.

Metuh and his wailers missed 3 points;

1. SaiBaba is a man of INTEGRITY and so cannot call Black, White to gain undue favor.

2. The investors themselves Need correct information about ouR state of affairs so as to know the risks involved which they weren't getting before from top government officials even from the Clueless One himself.

3. Whether we say it or not there means for investors to find out what's up with us but its even worse if we want to live in denial. Like the Clueless-One GEJ once said; "America Will Know" everything.

So if PDP and its band of wailers want to wail they should wail jeje. A true APC supporter should know that There's little or nothing that can be done with a corrupt PDP budget.

Change will be on full speed from January 2016.

I bet you have no idea how foreign investment works. Nigeria on its own is a big risk for any investor, to make the situation worse by rubbing poo on your own face is just counter productive. India has its fair share of corruption, infrastructural decay, unemployment and all but they don't keep whining about this endlessly.
