Even when you want to believe it can't be that bad, the local TV stations make sure you don't ever entertain that thought..

Even westside is not for the fainthearted..

The day dem nef went to westside, she prayed throughout ... cheesy

If they are sharing a million benjies in both places, make dem give am to charity.. cheesy

Everyday bad news on TV, Man shot, Child killed, Drive by shooting, July 4th killing. Gosh! So tey they killed an upcoming rapper in a drive by shooting, killers sped away in order to escape and ran into a woman with a baby in a stroller, killed the child on impact.
Another episode, a father was targeted in a shooting, instead the child was killed! Chicago na real gangsta region!

Talk about racism and police harassment. Story for another day.

The weather nko? The wind no be from this earth o! maybe from pluto

I remember when modath was caught in a tornado warning on her way from Walmart. I'm still laughing thinking about it. grin grin grin grin cheesy

@neks31,

Chicago is biuriful &, aint nohin small about the windy city...

The thing I don't still understand about that city is why the black folks in southside have decided to turn their place to armageddon...

Sometimes when I'm watching the news, I just keep wondering if it's the same city or they are referring to one war torn zone in the middle east or Africa.....

Good to know there are relatively safe areas there. C
@Chicagobound Pls be careful abeg. Stay away from the no-go areas mentioned here and hope u get settled soon.

Good morning all. Pls I just want to sure this is good enough for POE. I av been in contact with a hospital for a while , all our conversation has been through telephone, they said they don't send mail outside the US, I was able to persuade them to send it to a relative in US. What they sent is a letter quoting their fees and also stating that my wife has an appointment with both the financial department and a doctor on a stated date. My concerns: Is this good enough as the Preached doctor's/ hospital's correspondence? The letter was signed by a financial counsellor, pls do I need to push further for any other correspondence or Document. I just want to be sure Wifey is good to go.
The letter is okay as long as she declared her birthing intentions but if not... Some may not check though like I wasn't asked anything in NY

Chicago is not unsafe, if you are in the downtown, niles, skokie, northside etc, you'd find it hard to believe, you are in the same city... It's the news that just get it fixed in one's consciousness ..

Aswerigod, you'll love chicago, try it. ..

Lots of places to DO & things to VISIT .. wink

@ MiddyO Thanks for your reply, Im currently 25 weeks , my parents are in Nigeria,I have an 18 month old daughter as well. We are returning as a family so accomodation has been arranged however no jobs yet but fingers crossed hubby gets one before my visa appointment on 21st december. My father has decided to help with the trip any suggestions please?. I am using Doctoresparati and I have paid part of my hospital bills, I have a signed letter from the doctor agreeing to see me. I also have one which isnt signed as I have to sign on arrival and show proof of ID. Now my problem is presenting my case to the visa officer so i dont get rejected. I lived in the UK for 6 years and finally moving back home as visa was denied and I and hubby decided this was it. Previous posts have shown that they kind of make a big deal out of one being denied a uk visa my husband isnt travelling with me but im taking my mum and my daughter along. Please, I really need any advise I could get as this forum seems so helpful I have learnt a whole lot. Thanks in advance P.S im due late February.
I'll advise you 1st apply in UK where you are at the moment. If given fine, if denied then you can reapply in Naija. When asked why the refusal, you can state you assumed cos of ties that was why you came to your home country to reapply

Hi people,

finally got into Houston a week ago.
Had an awful POE story, had to spend 8h in detention ==> bottom line : don't show up there with less than 7 to 8 k$ in HARD CASH
my detailed story is on the way.
Iwill be staying with relatives for 3 weeks but after the baby comes, I would like to find a new accommodation for 3 and a half weeks
Any suggestion please ?
Don't you think you'll need your relatives more when baby arrives? Why moving out then and you may not get a new accommodation that will accept just 3weeks plus rentals from you o

LadyGuinivere:

Ist advice: #bigJacket? #hidebigstomach? That is a no no. U have to notify the embassy that u intend to birth in the US. whilst u search for a hospital within your budget

Yea thats what mean, but LadyG told her to notify the embassy about her intentions, when she is travelling to the US on a Visa waiver as a British citizen.

I'm confused o. Does she have any business with US Embassy if she is travelling with a British passport? I think not. For all intents and purposes, she is British as long as she carries the red passport. She will declare her intentions on arrival just like citizens of countries who don't need a visa to enter the US.

Maybe there's no space for her plus baby and maybe hubby is joining too? Ive heard of people that move once baby is born. You're right she would need her relatives around her especially if she's not familiar with the area. She can find apartments on the airbnb website even for a few days. Always good to look out for the ones with positive reviews and close to people you know.

Madam, b4 JW raptures this one,
Call St Bernard's Hospital and request to speak with Doc Alston of Women's wellness clinic. He is an awesome doctor, over 30yrs Obgyn experience.
St Bernard is like 2500/3000 for the maternity package, without anaesthetics and Dr.Al will take 3200 for prenatal and delivery.
Payment is before delivery.

Dr.Al also uses Roseland Community Hosp. I think their package is slightly cheaper that St Bernard but the hosp take style far small. In the heart of southside.

By the Mount Sinai has an awesome package too, how come you don't want to use them?

Hope I was helpful.

God bless u incredibly; I just want to have options since I'll be travelling at almost 35 weeks. Thank u thank u thank u. kiss

Thanks a lot. I'll actually be staying in Milwaukee which is about 70klm away but their hospital bills too much so my uncl would take me to Chicago on days I need to be in at the hospital. Tnx for the care.

@MiddyO Thanks for your reply, however I am moving back next week, my husband can provide a bank statement as well if its needed, however I cant leave my daughter behind its best I take her with me, plus my husband was working whilst in the UK but since our leave was refused we had to move back. My pregnancy is high risk as it is according to my GP here hence my reason for going to the US to give birth . I guess I just have to give it a go anyway thanks.

I doubt that she can apply for Yankee visa in the UK, when she no longer has legal standing in the UK. She said she was denied leave to remain in the UK, hence her reason for returning to Naija.

Which ties will she show the V. O in the UK?

She can inform the embassy of her intent to enter the US for childbirth purposes, since she has a visa waiver that allows entry into the US. (which is equivalent to having a visa).

In my opinion the email serves as a good back up and shows how prepared she is.
