Well, maybe we have different upbringings & different cultural backgrounds. I was raised to respect my elders, because they say disrespecting an elder brings misfortune in ones life. That's just my POV. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought he is also a tenant & the landlord is the one that arranged the meeting. Nonetheless, I believe something must have gone down for him to remind them over & over of his age. Why would he say that without some provocation on their part? It makes no sense or the OP is just a poor story teller & left out most of what transpired before he said those words. My own rusty 2c
