Earthkumy:
Former Minister for Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-
Iweala, has said the solution to Nigeria’s power
problem lies in off-grid initiatives that are
climate friendly and not going to the West to
beg as victims.
Okonjo-Iweala, who spoke at the Conference
of Parties (COP 21) to the United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change,
(UNFCCC) in Paris, France, said Nigeria needs to
get the private sector involved in the power
sector, adding that government must look at
renewable and off-grid solutions like the solar
power generation.
She said: “Almost three quarters of
infrastructure that Africa needs, we still don’t
have it. This means that the power we need,
the road and the railway, we can still get these
infrastructures and have it in a way that is
friendly to climate change that lowers emission
and puts us on a low carbon growth path. How
do we do that?
“We have to get the private sector, we are
looking at power, look at renewable energy, we
are not saying renewable should be everything
because Africa should have a mix. We can still
use gas to some extent, but we should increase
the renewable. Our companies that are
investing should look at off- grid solutions, let
our companies get off -grid solar solutions for
our people before other people come into it
because that is what always happens. Instead
of flaring, we can use the gas, we can convert
this gas for our use and I know government
has the power to do that.”
The former minister, who is also the
Commissioner, Global Commission on the
Economy and Climate spoke at a session titled:
Climate Change in Africa: Financing Sustainable
Pathways for Development at the ongoing
Climate Change talks.
She said the solution for climate change lies in
Africa because of the opportunity to build
renewable infrastructures on the continent.
“Africa should stop playing the victim game. We
are not supposed to be going to the West to
beg as victims, we should be telling them that
the solution is in Africa. Our infrastructures are
just developing we have the opportunity to
build in a climate friendly way and avoid the
mistakes of the developed nations, “she added.
Okonjo-Iweala said African countries should
divert funds used in fossil fuel subsidy towards
the generation of renewable energy.

Those criticisms are not worth it. There was privatisation during her days with obj and gej- she could be the brain behind it.

We said it but you guys preferred to believe propaganda instead of the truth. The economic downturn was not peculiar to Nigeria but a global problem occasioned by the falling prices of crude oil in the international market, you guys said it was GEJ's problem. She used her acumen and expertise to steer the ship of the economy out of imminent austerity but you guys critiscized and villified her. Now the truth is coming out. With all the noise, boasting, promises or rather SELF-DECEPTION APC cannot and does not have anyone to successfully manage the economy at this auspicious time. The dollar will soon hit. N300. But I thought she got a great job in a great position in an International organization. If she was irrelevant they wouldn't have jumped on her immediately after leaving office. Or are the Americans we run to for help now dumb to fight over her to come work with them?
Yes, she got job through those she helped to destroy our economy, such attempt was what made OBJ to remove her as minister of finance back then.

Before she offers any advice that she couldn't implement for 5 years as coordinating minister of the economy, she should kindly explain how $2.1billion meant for arms purchase was frittered away under her watch.

This is what a finance minister sounds like not Kemi, who is talking like a college dropout. I guess there is a huge difference between studying at Harvard and studying at Leeds.

A finance minister that grounded the economy

A finance minister that was busy shouting rebasing of GDP as an achievement when majority of Nigerians are wallowing in abject poverty.

A finance minister that sold Sure-p to us like her life depended on it, we all know what became of the funds.

A finance minister that was such a lay back to over look billions of dollars stolen under her watch.

A finance minister that couldn't manage the country's foreign reserves but went borrowing to finance recurrent expenditure.

A finance minister that allowed the destruction of the economy by granting questionable import waivers to companies like Stallion and Olam and also looked the other way when their import limits were exceeded.

So called Harvard graduate that never saw anything wrong in the looting and mismanagement of the nation's resources but prefers to keep mute in as much as her salary and allowances were being paid.

A voodoo economist and originator of okonjonomics!

Please tell your abysmal story to the marines. We know better.

Even devil himself is ashamed of this your blantant lie!!!

Chia!!!

I dont even get it...was it Buhari that dropped the oil price globally?

What yoy should be asking is what happened to all the money when a barrel of oil was high as 118 usd?

You want angel Buhari.to clear up a mess.of years on 6 months?

Even an adage says it takes a minute to destroy....but takes years to rebuild.

Buhari will rebuild Nigeria....no matter how long it takes...

How did we find our self in a situation where the economy is helplessly squeezed by marketers, what if there is an actual UN embargo on the country.

Show me the long queue for oil in north korea, Zimbabwe or Ghana

She knows the drill, will she defend the situation the same way if she was a chinese minister /coordinator of the economy?

for her to get positive results she has to do what the chinese would have done.

Dear Madam Iweala,

If this statement is actually what you said, then is very unfortunate. May I quickly remind you that you were part of the administration that turn Nigerians to be victims of corruption and deceit. You took advantage of Jonathan who believed so much on you guys and devour the economy. Many Nigerians are victim of corruption and bad governance. I honestly, sympathize with Jonathan. No wonder, you did everything to return to power, including sharing our hard earn money in dollars. You have lost it madam. In a more civil society people like you should have gone under or perhaps be converted to monk, devoting their remaining life to prayers, asking God for mercies for the numerous life you have made victim of corruption.

I hope your ears are on ground to the currently revelation or they do not mean anything to you, then you may be regarded as those that have thrown good morale to the gutters.

Please, I encourage to have a sober reflection and think how we can undo the evil that have happened in past years of PDP "rule" which you were part of.

Good bless Nigeria.

Chai! This guy is playing with my intelligence: I don suffer!
Do you read my comment at all? Did I say her idea is not a good one or did you caught me saying she is not an INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIST? All what I'm saying is why didn't she bring this idea when she was there? What happened to her speaking with both side of her month as regard whether Nigeria was broke or not?

I know your brain somewhat short-circuit when you mention the agreement of oil price with the gravity. Oil price start falling from its peak ever less than a year before your GEJ left office and you dear spew trash to to use oil price to justify Okonjo and her dull master monstrosity and corrupt practices. You really disappoint me with this your clueless premise.

You are fast to mention oil price gravity but you fail to tell us what happened to all the money bag when the oil sold at an average of $100 per barrel? Looted? By who and who? Why was our foreign reserve blinking and crying for help? Do you know t.e atrocity your Okonjo commit in other to achieve her paper based economic development? You talk about the Naira obeying gravity against dollar but you fail to remember that it was GEJ and his satanic coordinating minister of economy that set it in motion. They dole out money in dollar in their quest to stay in government, what do you think that will that do to already shaking Naira and the economy that's finding its balance?
May God save you!

Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, you are a MOR*N ! As the minister for finance and co-ordinating minister of the Nigerian economy, what did you and your government do to support the private sector? Instead you chased away manufacters to other neighbouring West African countries and you have the gods to spit nonesense.

My conclusion, if the west and all those organisations you are working with are really credible and serious, they will never have anything to do with people like you but of course, destroying the Nigerian economy is in their favour and you were their agent in the last government.

Shame on you Okonjo, you are a female Judas. God will expose you very soon.
