I have been researching and finally my conclusion is "dentistry is more lucrative that medicine but in Nigeria it ain't so because an average Nigerian isn't informed or interested in dental/oral care"
well medicine and surgery and dentistry are all under medicine, just that dentistry is medicine specialised.
Your arguments helped me.... I took advantage of the positive side of the argument.

How about their DE?, did they use merit for that too
Direct entry into medicine in the University of Ibadan is based on merit. A total of 27 students were admitted into 200 level mbbs programme.
The mistake I noticed aspirants aspiring to be admitted into medicine and surgery programmes in Nigeria medical schools is that most aspirants don't know the admission policy of certain schools.
some certain schools like uniben and unilorin don't release their cutoff so most candidates that chose those don't know whether they attained the stipulated cutoff or not.
I have heard cases of people scoring as high as 80 and still not admitted.
The second mistake that I noticed aspirants do make is seeking for admission in schools that has a low merit quota I.e the no of candidates that they admit on merit is less than 50 percent for each set.
It is not that they don't admit candidates on merit but the no they admit through influence is equal or more than the merit quota schools like unizik, aau, delsu, oau, uniben, unilorin.
Schools with 60 %- 80%percent for merit quota in medicine and surgery are UNN and unilag.
Schools with 95 percent merit quota for medicine is UNIBADAN I.e ui.
Then lastly the fault lies with the candidates, some candidates don't know how to prepare for jamb and post jamb.
Some have not started preparation for next year jamb up to this moment that I am typing the article.
some are preparing with irrelevant materials and textbook

Without giving consideration to Degree applicants. That isn't a basis for merit
No is it fair to Degree applicants. Then it's nigeria there is nothing like fairness.

The University of Ibadan admission into mbbs through direct entry is the very transparent.
Either u come in through A-level or the normal second class upper.
But it is is advisable you have a very strong second class upper in a relevant field such as biological sciences such as microbiology, zoology and basic medical sciences such as physiology, anatomy.
For the A-level it Is advisable u have a minimum of AAB in Cambridge A-level examination.
They don't accept ijmb.
This newly admitted set of mbbs are 27 but previous years they were higher than 27.

look the issue is that they lay emphasis on A-level than on degree.
I know of two guys that came in through DE but they are on first class. Your 2:1 must be like 4:4.
U will have to consider the fact that a lot of aspirants with very very very strong GP often apply.

They need to state it clearly that " we would consider you but likely not admit you" cus quite a few people in zoology, mcb, nd some other departments are doing the courses cus the have the hopes that at the end of their degrees they can apply using it for Direct entry. Nigeria can just make someone frustrated, cause they state that those with A levels, Degree equivalents can apply. They should have just said only first class can apply. Nigeria isn't just it at all.

I think they place more priority on A-level than on degree.
