Djdoxxx, are you in Ketu with goods? I had some customers from Ikotun calling to ask about supplying them. I would love to come over to Ketu to see you and buy some plantain.Regards

I think it is better to process the leftovers.
There Was No Left-overs This Time...Everything Finished Yesterday...We Imployed A Strategy Which Was Buying Separate Goods And Selling Separately With Different 'Olobes', This Speedened Up Sales...But There Is More To Everything...I Have Not Had Time To Settle Down As I Would Want To Compile Loads Of Informations On Here.

@djdoxxx,

Nice thread and nice job, quite educative and informative.

I followed this thread and read all the post, but in as much I appreciated your efforts, ur first merchandise was not conclusive as u did not update us on whether it was profitable or otherwise, secondly lack of pictures of the plantain to determine the size and state of the plantain with respect to price makes comparative analysis difficult.

But I give kudos to u and ur team for ur effort on information disseminations, am also a starter at plantain farming trying to tap knowledge from all the good people of this forum both in merchandising and farming.

I pray for successful endeavour for all, bountiful harvesting and profitable merchandising.

I have been busy all along and presently down with malaria... I hope I would get well soon to attend to questions and continue with the updates.

I followed your tale with keen interest and I admire your entrepreneurial and rugged mindset. That is all that is needed to break even in life.
I was able to identify a major challenge you had with selling of your plantain. It was actually transportation.
My reason is because, if you had means of transporting the plantain from ketu to somewhere else (when you got the information that ketu market will be closed from 8am), you could have done that and could still sell those plantain better.
However, it is not a bad try at all. You gained! You won!! You've learnt something!!!
I bet you, if you try again, you will do so many things better. There is no agricultural venture that doesn't have its own challenge, but consistency is the key. Wish you the best bro.

Buying plantain and transporting from Benin, the ROI was rather low from my calculations. A coach of plantain goes for between 60-70000, depending on bargaining power and has about 15- 20 dozens. Transport per coach in a 911 truck is 8000 per coach. Loading and market fee Is 2000. In Lagos heard I have to pay for produce, I don't know how much. But like you said planning is important and getting a market. I do hope you can guide me in Agroprenuership

Based on your analysis, can we discuss. Can you watsapp me or drop ur contact. 08138243832

yeah...you are very correct bro...It is best to see every venture as either a success or a lesson rather than see it as a failure when one fails...the second trip was a success....and this made me conclude setting up my own farm somewhere very close to the markets in Lagos to checkmate transportation and risk issues. Thanks for the contribution.

Wow... I love your comment... I think part of farming sustainability is nearness to resources, nearness to market, nearness to source of Labour, capital, and others... This are things that makes agriculture profitable..
Bro... I love your ruggedness
