With pencil and paper mathematicians investigate problems(abstract,for the most part) bordering on existence and uniqueness. Engineers on the other hand assume uniqueness(without proof) and proceed to utilize existence, sometimes with disastrous outcomes. Consider solving 3rd or 4th order circuits without Laplace transforms.
Without mathematicians the engineer's work will be so tedious, consisting mainly of table look-up and chart tracing. People use Pythagoras theorem before knowing its proof. How many engineers can prove Pythagoras theorem?

Engineers touch virtually all aspects of mathematics, like you mentioned complex analysis, functional analysis etc as difficult perhaps to mathematicians, they are very interesting to Engineers. Beyond Calculus, Engineers touch almost all aspects of mathematics.

Yes I am lucky to have secured employment after school the same way anybody who is working in Nigeria is lucky . I pray you are lucky too. I would advise you tear off the thought of your course of study winning you an automatic employment .

i kno of d labour market more than most graduates. I mak researches, i kno wat z happening out there. Engineering is not hw it used to be neither is mathematics, a math graduate don't end up teaching. One of my uncle read engineering, chemical while the other read mathematics. If u see dem today, d difference is clear. Goodnight to u too bro, but am continuing arguing here tomorrow.

Nope. Don't have anything to gain or prove and I stand by my argument that a sizable number of folks in that profession 'gbagaun' unapologetically. Mathematicians are field individuals,they have a place in every institution ranging from the multinational oil companies to the automechanic clinics.The only problem is that they get stiff competition from the statistics guys,who tend to be more favored,especially in Nigeria.
Engineering,business administration and accounting are very crowded fields,though I particularly dislike civil engineering guys,perhaps due to their unruly attitude on campus.However,statistics seem to be the reigning field now,I would say that statistics is the huber hottest cake in town,its too hot for a cold shower!.lol.

1. Mathematicians are good programmers, funny some might not know.
2. Those who read pure mathematics tend to loose their minds quick cuz it's not easy to turn your lingua franca to numbers LOL.

You guys are trying to argue blindly. In every aspect of life engineers are problem solver. Mathematicians are good but they don't really know the value of what they solving (applications). I as an electrical engineer i don't think mathematics students are better than engineering student in time of problem solving

back in the day sir,if you read Engineering, you were given a certificate in mathematics as a bonus (not sure weda it was a diploma or stuff) also as it was believed you had to be proficient with numbers to read engineering........In summary Mathematics is like the language Engineers communicate with.....it's like comparing an English student and maybe a lawyer. ....doesn't however imply that Engineering is better than Maths as a course ..simply depends on the angle you looking from.....

For your information, It's not all Engineering Mathematics courses that a lecturer from !ath dept takes. Beside, in the engineering courses themselves have lots of solvings to b done without even dealing with them in mathematics.

Back then, I first did Laplace transformation from my electrical courses even fourier series.

Please ask your lecturer this "That between the engineering student and a math student who does well in mathematics?" It's an assignment

For your information computers were invented by mathematicians not engineers.
