The bible doesn't condemn the building of statues or images that glorify God. God told Moses to build an image of a snake to heal Israelites bitten by snakes and he also told him to build images representing the cherubim angels and this was part of the ark of the old covenant. People build statues to remind themselves of people or events they had an experience with and that's because those images help the mind to remember or just gives them inspiration. Idolatery is when you worship those statues as your own god. There is nothing wrong with using images or statues to help people remember or stay inspired. We see images in our daily life such as on the tv, newspapers, internet and so on.

Let us stop this our holier than thou attitudes and appreciate a good effort. In my opinion, the bible is permissible of statues where such statues are not graven to be worshipped but to venerate and honour only. This opinion is taken from my interpretation of the passage below.

Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God...

Many Roman Catholic practices have no biblical roots, unfortunately Muhammed copied most of this false Christianity while forming Islam.
