[quote author=Jusmudi post=43111609]The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines purgatory as a "purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven," which is experienced by those "who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified" (CCC 1030). It notes that "this final purification of the elect . . . is entirely different from the punishment of the damned" (CCC 1031). The purification is necessary because, as Scripture teaches, nothing unclean will enter the presence of God in heaven (Rev. 21:27) and, while we may die with our mortal sins forgiven, there can still be many impurities in us, specifically venial sins and the temporal punishment due to sins already forgiven. Two Judgments When we die, we undergo what is called the particular, or individual, judgment. Scripture says that "it is appointed for men to die once, and after that comes judgment" (Heb. 9:27). We are judged instantly and receive our reward, for good or ill. We know at once what o |

dhardline:purgatory doctrine is not that no one goes to hell... nope... for those who mistakenly have a stain on them b4 death ... little stuffs ... the whole stuff is knowing that they are sins that does not lead to death (1 john 5:17) no Catholic wants to even go dia ... the aim is heaven ... strive for perfection for him... but should it be they is a form of little stuffs (sin that does not lead to death) then dey z a chance still to make heaven... anyways, like the bible said, we are judged by our own believe .. . this was not to convince but to enlighten |

God doesnt hold sin against anyone on earth, the ticket to heaven is to accept that Jesus is the son of God and confess it with your mouth, all sins are permanently forgiven while still on earth were there is grace, after death judgement. |

Heart2heart:why are u assuming? Do you think God is a mathematician like our pastors? The op used Bible verses to support his claim, and yet our felllow"born again" said after death judgment. Now since you attend Bible believing church where was Lazarus for 3 days? Plz use Bible to counter purgatory points and don't assume. Secondly what did Christ meant when he said in mathew 12:31-32? From the Bible passage what did he meant by "this world and next"? Does it mean that some sins are forgivable and some can't be forgiven even when u become born again?(Plz use Bible verse to support ur claim) |

There is nothing like that in the Bible. It is a belief from the pit of hell to send billions of catholic faithfuls to hell fire. To catholics, every member that dies goes to purgatory. For this reason, they dont strive to make heaven. The Bible made it clear that one can make either heaven or hell and nothing more. I wonder if they don't read Hebrew 9:27 which says that it is appointed unto men once to die and after this comes judgement. |

fasho01:Oh really? The day of judgement is not in afterlife right? 1Cor 3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. I guess not, it relates to the rewards of this life, the day tithe collected start to increase. Smh. |

Empredboy:Sorry please but i must confess to you that a toilet to one of your parish here where i am residing got blocked, a plumber waz called to rectify it, I hope you will not want to hear that it was used condoms that blocked the toilet. A motor cycle rider whom i am very close to can testify how he normally sneaks girls to those FATHERS. The ugliest part, you may not want to believe it. You may continue with your insult. But all i know and i still emphasised is that that doctrine of PURGATORY is a scam |

| Re: Is Purgatory In The Bible? by Syncan(m): 2:32pm On Feb 21, 2016 |
fasho01:No. I am only drawing your attention to the fact that some people's work shall burn but they will still "be saved, yet so as by fire". So you may ask yourself the question "where will these people be; while they are made ready for heaven...so as by fire?" |
| Re: Is Purgatory In The Bible? by goodnews777: 2:53pm On Feb 21, 2016 |
PURGATORY IS NOTHING BUT ONE OF THE SINFUL OLD ROMAN HEATHEN RELIGIOUS BELIEFS ERRONEOUSLY INCORPORATED INTO CHRISTIANITY. ITS A PAGAN PRACTICE. The bible says believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shall be saved.Jesus said today you will be with me in paradise not purgatory. Some people think just because others has practiced and believed it for centuries, it has to be the way. Only the truth shall set you free. THE BELIEVE IN PURGATORY IS NOT BIBLICAL THEREFORE IT COULD LAND YOU IN HELL. |

It's not talking about where you are.purgatory is not the issue here. Paul the apostle says we(self included)will all appear before the judgement seat of Christ . This is to decide what rewards you deserve. Not all crowns will be the same though you made heaven.Forget purgatory , it's sinful deceit and satanic.Repent now because there is no change of staus after death. |

Mr poster, u're very ignorant 2 open ur mouth & tell me dat d death of Christ is not sufficient for us 2 enter heaven. The bible says dat he whom d son of man sets free is free indeed. Christ also said dat his grace is sufficient for me. Its enough my Jesus died & dat he died for me. Stop decieving urself. The reason Christ went 2 preach 2 those 1s is because dey haven't known Christ & dats because Christ has not yet come during their time. I must tell u that God did not speak 2 u. dats d devil speaking. Christ died dat we might have life and have it abundantly. The bible says dat there is no condemnation to dem who are in Christ Jesus. 2 dem dat believe, he gave d power to become sons of God. My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness not on purgatory. The bible says the word of God which is Jesus, is a purifier so how come u're saying contrary? Dont cause God to curse u my brother. Please find a better church lest ur case will be "my people perish for lack of wisdom" |

Y'all shouting think holiness is so easy to attain...do you know we commit sins that we don't even know about..Catholic church preaches heaven and earth not purgatory...A priest can never tell you to live life so you might end up in purgatory...A scenario where a man lives a good life and sins at the hour of his death knowingly or unknowingly...will he go to hell just like that? God is not that wicked...now imagine the thief who was crucified with jesus that made heaven because he believed jesus is real..thats how merciful God can be...nobody has been to purgatory and back to confirm this but if it were included we human will sin more...it's just like a father saying to his university 100l kid that he would be flown abroad to start a fresh school...do you think the student will take the school's semester exams seriously? |

ONE PROBLEM OR RATHER A GREAT MISCONCEPTION THAT CHRISTIANS OF OTHER DENOMINATION ALWAYS HAVE IS THAT THE BIBLE IS THE ONLY,BOOK OF INSTRUCTION HANDED DOWN TO THESE AGE. WITH THIS MISCONCEPTION, THE PROTESTANT CHURCHES REFUSE TO GIVE CREDENCE TO THE PRONOUNCEMENTS BY THE UNIVERSAL CHURCH WHICH JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF HANDED DOWN VATICAN DOCUMENTS WHICH CONTAINED DETAILS BEYOND THE HOLY BIBLE. AN EXAMPLE OF SUCH IS "VATICAN TWO DOCUMENT". AND MIND YOU THE HOLY BIBLE ITSELF IS MORE OF A SUMMARY OF EVENTS. |

SamJed:So because d word Purgatory doesn't appear in d bible, it doesn't exist? SMH if dts 2 b true, dt means dt d trinity, nativity (birth of Christ), reincarnation (how God the son became man) r false because those words don't appear in d bible. Yes 1 is saved when 1 received Christ bt isn't it d same bible dt tell us 2 work out our salvation in fear & trembling? Purgatory is nt 4 d unrepentant or d sinners dt fails 2 acknowledge Jesus. It serves 2 cleanse us of minor stains caused by 4gten sins dt were unconfessed or unconscious sins (eg distraction during prayer) & is an instrument of penance 4 forgiven sins. D bible says "no sinner shall go unpunished" nt "no sinner shall go unforgiven". By merit of our sinful nature, we deserve damnation bt confession & true belief in Jesus Christ, we r spared dt. However we still need 2 undergo purging so dt we r made perfect as our heavenly Father is. Most tyms, we don't do sufficient penance in our life 2 be able 2 enter heaven unblemished so Purgatory strips us of such minor encumbrances & enables us 2 b pure enuf 2 c God's face. |
| Re: Is Purgatory In The Bible? by gemale(m): 6:21pm On Feb 21, 2016 |
Ohamzee:Purgatory isn't condemnation. It's purification. D fire of God's love purifies us d way fire purifies gold making us free of any uncleanness dt we unknowingly possessed which makes us in admissible 2 heaven. Where do u think d souls of unbaptized babies go immediately dey die? Heaven? Dt wld contradict d notion of original sin. Didn't David say in psalm 51 dt we were conceived in iniquity? So since dey can't enter heaven, would dey end up in hell? |

there. The Catholic doctrine of purgatory alone explains this passage. Then, of course, there is the Bible’s approval of prayers for the dead: "In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way, inasmuch as he had the resurrection of the dead in view; for if he were not expecting the dead to rise again, it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in death. But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought. Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from this sin" (2 Macc. 12:43–45). Prayers are not needed by those in heaven, and no one can help those in hell. That means some people must be in a third condition, at least temporarily. This verse so clearly illustrates the existence of purgatory that, at the time of the Reformation, Protestants had to cut the books of the Maccabees out of their Bibles in order to avoid accepting the doctrine.
