No...it is a charge for not diversifying your economy effectively.

The stamp duty has always been there. When oil was above $100 per barrel....we did not need it.Now that it is below $35 per barrel....we need the cash.

Even when oil was high.....we should have been charging it. We are not a rich nation. It is Nigerians who think that we have money like Croesus.
were not a rich nation, and our poiticians are worth trillions of naira. Continue supporting illegality.

Why are we ll making noise at this time.

The Stamp Duty Act was passed in 2004, revised version was passed in 2009/10. Some people took the Act to court, up to Supreme Court and lost in 2012.

What were we all looking at for 12years before the implementation? it is high time we stop our lackadaisical attiude to governance and laws being passe by our lawmakers.

This is a major lesson for us.

Once a law is passed, government is duty bound to uphold it, no matter whose ox is gored.

My prayer point is the Lord that changed the story of moribund NIPOST overnight will change our stories too, From a Zero revenue generation institution, NIPOST suddenly became an institution that will be generating 2.6trillion per annum for govt. That is a miracle!!!
young man, if you read people's messages well, you will understand that their complaints is that they are being over charged. We all know the country is facing trying times as a result of previous government mismanagement or misrule and we need to generate revenue. But doing that we should not be over charged, get that straight.

Youngman if you are truly over charged, call the attention of your bank to it OR have your lawyer defend your right.

What is hard in that?

Also, note that the effective date of the policies is Jan 15. Banks are just implementing the charges, but they will charge you from Jan 15 till date or else they are ready to pay penalties to CBN anf FIRS can even slam fines on them. They will rather go with charging you the accrued charges, than incur the wrath of the FG that is looking for revenue at all cost because their penalty will be worse than that of MTN.

The charges is not per every 1,000 but it is for every deposit transation that is above 1,000.

I don't know what the stamp duty is for and why I was only charged for the months of January and February when I've been using the account for a long time.
What aroused my curiosity more is the fact that the transaction was made simultaneously with just 2 days interval.
Fellow nairalanders, did any of you get similar message?
Yes me too from stanbic bank

Well,we are not rich because

1.We rely on one stream of income.Rich nations and people rely on multiple streams of income.

2.By July 2014....we had saved $32bn.Meanwhile Saudi Arabia had saved $724bn. You do the math. (The difference is clear).

3.Rich nations have strong investments in innovation and technology....ie things that keep them rich. Poor nations just rely on selling raw materials....and then wasting the money earned by importing fininshed goods from the same nations they export to....at much higher prices. So...we lose money.

4. Which is why I do not support corruption....because they are stealing from an already poor treasury.

Nigeria is not rich. The road to riches lies with us getting rid of our dependency on oil.

That Stanbic bank is a thief. They are the worst. They have the highest number of complaints. I have sent about three different mails to them concerning this issue. They keep spewing rubbish. Replying me with the CBN rules as if I told them I don't know about it. Every time I make transfer, they charge me the rubbish stamp duty.

A college of mine was three times for recharging with USSD code on UBA. She said she charged #50 for #100. another #50 for recharging another #100 and lastly #50 for recharging #300. She was not aware of the #50 deduction for stamp duty until when she finished recharging before the alert came. I told her that the deduction was an error that she don't to be charged for recharging.

In fact, my story is a sorry case. I am very broke right now, and I divided my last 10k into two. I bought food stuff with 5k, put the 2k in my wallet for misellenious expencies, and deposited 3k into my GT account. Next I know, I got an alert with a debit of 1k for ATM renewal (I had totally forgeotten about that)...I almost cried. I was left with 2k. Next thing, I got another alert...debit of 50 Naira tax for the 1k ATM charges. cry I was left with 1,950 (more or less 1k). I was heart broken. I wish I had just put that money under my pillow.

Innoson that is building parts for Nigerian Air Force is more than what ur zone is giving.

The allocations shows tribalism being perpetuated against the south-east.

As you asked if we voted for Buhari, shows we are being marginalized again.
We are being vitctims of tribalism.

It would be much better to charge 0.5% on all transactions above N1,000.

So you pay N5 for transaction of N1000

N5000 for transactions of a N1million

N5m for transactions of N1bn
