I detest stealing in any form. Good name is better than silver and gold. Let's continue to shun criminality in any disguise it may come. We are Nigerians , we ain't all fraudulent! God bless us all. Amen

LadyGuinivere:
Well said Ajuju.
Have we become so insensitive of the fact that crimes are crimes? Can one not say, I'm not willing to commit a crime despite the fact that others have been doing it and seemingly nobody is hurt?
We all troop to the USs to birth because we want something better for the kids as our system hs failed us.We yearn for a system tht works. So why would we carry the 419 and Naij sharp practices to this same place we hope will be the land of milk and honey for the kids?
When will nigerians start making a good name for ourselves abi we are happy with being pulled apart for secondary inspection, extra checks, and a more rigorous visa application? Me I'm not nd that's why I take the stand that Nogen can tell her bil to go hug transformer if he is so minded.

ajujuju:

Sweety dat you dnt knw anyone whose been jailed for tax fraud doesnt mean it isnt happening.
Yes like u said... ts been goin on for years, but must we pose a blind eye to what we all know is wrong? He is trying to defraud a sytem that was put in place to protect d citizens.
Tomorrow now when they ban refunds for genuine conditions we will all cry fowl, whn we know how people have worked to beat d system.

No one has said d man would defraud his nephew n neices. Wht we r sayin is d risks are many. That d man doesnt steal dr identity doesnt mean d wrong hands cants get a hold of it. And dnt say fraudstars can forge it bcz America has sooo tried to secure d process. Most times now dz risks arise bcz smone was careless.
Yes hes a family member and truly may hv no intent of harm but if dats d case.. y is he angered by her refusal? Ts her kids. Her choicee. No one shld ever be forced to do smth dy do not want to regardless of how gud d intention.
My own 10kobo!

Epic cool wish all nigerians will one day think like this. Naija must be great again

Nef and Modath's submissions as per not applying for ssn prompted me to do a little search. Found the links above interesting. Apparently, people can wreck havoc to a child before he/she even reaches age of consent. Pls Nef throw more light on how not to get ssn for ur child. Are there forms or columns in forms which u deliberately don't fill?

The bolded is enough.
While, I understand what you may be saying with depends on who its with et al, eitherway it's tax fraud end of.

I'm not saying anyone should do it, like I said it's morally wrong and fraudulent but I feel we just go to town with our imagination of the consequences.

To each their own

Meanwhile, modath / Nef....that una style was super. Good thinking

for people that don't want to apply I think there is a column to tick when filling Bc at the hospital if you want it? I guess if you leave it blank nothing will come in the mail

I just didnt apply. Where there any forms to be filled? I dunno o!

After baby is born, you go to ssn office to get the number, or meet the SSN rep in the hosp. I skipped both.

For passport I put zeros, and it was accepted

That is what he plans to do but we said we aren't interested . The man just dey para on the phone for almost 30 minutes say I turned it down. That he discussed with his wife before telling us. The wife was positive I was going to agree but he doubted her. He knew I wouldn't agree with it, why is he now upset? After all, wasn't that his expectation of me? I tire o![/quote]

Hi all, please i have a concern which i'd love to be addressed. My trip is in a few days, however i previously had hosp & Dr correspondence wt Dr's appointment letter which i got during my trip to d US in December but i recently changed plans to a diff hosp due to proximity to accommodation(about 36mins closer than previous hosp; i am a first time mum n scared abt journeying 1hr30mins to hosp during labor) and price (saving me over $3k). However my mum got all the necessary info for me via phone (as shez based there) and general letter showing Dr & hosp cost was mailed (not emailed) to her. Bcz of this i do not have a direct correspondence wt hosp nor Dr and i do not wanna pay yet as I'll like to visit d hosp n Dr before concluding. Do you think the letter i have would suffice as proof at POE? If not, what do you suggest?

Pls il appreciate all possible advice. Tx

Hi damidamsel,
sent u an email. please respond. am headed to philly next month and wanna compare notes.

I am about to book an appointment for my folks. Will they need to have a reservation from a hotel at their interview? The place of stay on their form is the hospital address.

Please advise! Any useful information will be appreciated.

Hello house,
I just got a B1/B2 Visa with my wife.
During the interview we were asked if she was pregnant and I said 'No'
But I am nursing the intention of giving birth in the States if or when she gets pregnant even though we would still go for vacation first in New York as i told them during the interview.
My question now is that if we want to give birth in the States do I have to send an email to the embassy stating my intention or just pay hospital bills and show evidence at Point of Entry?
Please advise.
Thanks

1. If you already have a B visa, you are advised to write a Notification/Change of Intent email to the embassy(If you declared your intent to give birth in USA during your the visa interview then you don't need to send a letter to the embassy) but if you have withheld this info during the visa interview then letter of intent is not a shortcut.

Use these addresses
LagosNIV@state.gov and /or
Consularabuja@state.gov

This correspondence and the reply is carried by the traveler to the point of entry (POE)
*For the format of the said letter, kindly use the search button on top or below this page and key in the key words. You will have to search until you see the info which has been posted by several users.

Nerf I'm confused o. When you're filling the former for BC, the SSN form is also given to you and it usually comes through the mail in a few weeks. You don't have to go to the SSN office for anything o. Did you just decline to sign the SSN form? Anyways, they mailed my daughter's and my nephew sent it to me intact. But I still put zeros on her passport application

This tax refund thing do we know anyone it has landed into trouble really and honestly?

It's not identity theft, it's not bad debt and its it mortgaging your children's future off and all the names bring bantered around - depending on the relative in question.

A lot of people have been doing it for donkey years and the world haven't come crashing - this is from personal experience of people close to me, a lot of these kids are now adults and have moved to the USA now for school and work

I'm not saying do it because It's morally wrong and in a way fraud but let's stop painting a gory picture

Pls before anyone quotes me to preach read the paragraph above again. Thanks

Pls I have a friend d@ goes to the US yearly with h kids saying they have government money t collect for the kids.
Please is this fraud or I there rea money d government giv every year.
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 3 by vcole: 4:56pm On Mar 07, 2016
hey hun. Someone recently asked me if anyone is claiming taxes for my LO and explained the whole process to me. Basically they claim that the dependent child lives/lived with them and the Govt gives tax refunds for the upkeep of each dependant. They even give tax refunds for things like tithe.
It is pretty simple for me. If my LO did not/is not living with you and you were/are not paying for the upkeep of my LO then why should you explore a loop in the system to collect tax refunds for that child?
So, I decided to chat with my neighbour (nerf, the one you know...name starts with S) who recently had a baby and returned from the states. She told me that her uncle had been filing and collecting tax refunds for dependants in their family for a long time and then last year, he came to Nigeria after filing and while he was in her house, his wife called and notified him that the IRS was in their house as they had "caught him in the act"
he had to buy a one way ticket that day and got a lawyer and eventually was able to pay a huge fine and get no jail time, however he is listed as a tax offender on his record.
The United States is a huge country. The IRS cannot cross-check all applications for tax refunds, however they randomnly pick out a select few every year as "quality control" and last year, his was picked.
Case of every day for the thief, one day for the owner.
Is it Illegal for a person to claim taxes for a child s/he did not care for? YES
Do people (Americans, Nigerians, Other nationalities) do it/ YES
Do they get away with it? YES, most times
Should they do it? NO
favoredgal:
