FBNH for now is not good for short term rather long term. The price you mentioned @Asmara was when stock prices were manipulatively balooned and overpriced resulting into disastrous end for investors..Many fingers got burnt. Even some brokers are still cooling their heels at panti police station and kirikiri...However, judging by the lull in banking sector heralded by the downturn in oil prices which led to massive NPL in their books, banks stocks generally have plummeted..Specifically, FBNH is worst hit because of its huge loan portfolio to the O&G sector. This was corroborated by the recent profit warning released by the bank to investors an indication that all is not well with the elephant..

The road to recovery may still be far even as oil price begins to rally. If the rally is however sustained it will surely turn around things for FBNH and others thereby positively impacting albeit, marginally on their share price. Honestly, no matter the level of oil price rebound, to see the price soaring back to 2008 price within 3-5years will definitley be a mirage. But if you are long on it, as yours truly is too, you need not bother yourself... wink

It's always good to receive dividend before the companies directors, by paying yourself. The question is how do you pay yourself dividend, the answer is that you can do that by cashing out before the closing of the company register, because immediately after the closing of the register, mark down will follow. Some stock might lose times two of the declared dividend immediately after the mark down before stabilizing. Sometimes if you want to follow this formula don't wait till the last day to bail out, because there will be traffic due to people that want to bail out before the mark down.

Nigeria stock exchange market has two school of thought, namely : jijo school of thought and investors school of thought, one school of thought believe in jijo, while other school believe in investment. Investors believe in longterm, with dividend, bonus, and capital appreciation, and jijo group believe on daily trade with capital appreciation, shows low interest in bonus and dividend.

It will be risky to trade this week on those stock that will close their book by the end of this month, some will make money while some will lose, many will like to pump the price and dump on others before the mark down ( but is like the price has been pump already before the releasing of the results)

The JIJO masters are refusing to shoot in the dark.... grin....This is one out of many issues that is preventing prices from escaping through the roof........ grin. Most people are avoiding the dividend trap. For me and my portfolio, we are in HIBERNATION MODE...... grin.

But if I may ask I thought if you sell before close of business on the closure date for the shares you will not get paid any dividend. so you can only sell on or after the last day if you want dividend. pls correct me if am wrong

Happy sunday to all.
Please i need your guidance and experince on this:
If the closure date for dividend payment is 31st March to 3rd April, and price was marked down on April 1st, if i sell my holdings on April 2nd, am i still entitled to dividend payment knowing that closure of register is between 31st March to 3rd April?
thank you

While we await Tier 2 results . .

Next big question the market is asking:

What Will Emefeile Do Next?

a) Nothing
b) Increase interest rates
c) Move fx peg

I'm guessing nothing for now . .

Some people will be shocked when even UCAP doesn't appreciate more than say 5% of its last price before closure date.

Hey, I'm just playing with theories here...
