I don't want to believe that we are silently encouraging mediocrity here. Nigerian will not progress if we keep endorsing mediocrity by giving excuses. I mean, I read every comment here and there was a consensus here - the commentary was wack. I bet you won't hear those at the stadium complain about the commentary. Nonetheless, some people still take their radios whenever they go to the stadium because it adds to the entertainment.

The commenters here paid for a satellite service, they need to enjoy the value of whatever they paid for. You can't tell them to take garri for the package they paid for.

I must admit that it is not an easy job to do but that's why they're professionals! It's their job - I don't make excuses for what someone ought to be trained for. If the station has good commentators, they make more money too.

Please, from what I know and what I've read here, Nigerian commentators need to stop being partisan during football games. Additionally, adequate research should be conducted before going on air - people learn from commentaries and this is not about supporting a Nigerian just because he or she is.

In recent times, Mitchell Obi in my opinion is the closest to being qualified when it comes to giving you statistics and stories around a game though some have reservations about him. Femi and the gang is another group of young guys trying to change the 'bad press' surrounding our commentators. They have given so many (sports) stations a headache that I've seen people reducing the volume of their TV sets just to hear these guys on radio.

I can't remember the guy's name now but the guy that schooled in the UK among them; Femi and Emmanuel do a good job in giving match commentaries.

There u go again, inappropriate punctuation.
It is so easy to label someone ineligible, but even you, yourself are not too good.
Re: Why Nigerian Commentators Should Not Comment On Serious Matches by Mike008(m): 1:40pm On Mar 26, 2016
I've always noticed this, and in fact took a swipe at Nigerian commentators before this game.

Ts very shameful.

I remember when Anthony Martial scored in his debut against Liverpool. The commentators reaction of only a "Yesss!" was greeted by alot of critics.
Re: Why Nigerian Commentators Should Not Comment On Serious Matches by jagorinho: 1:43pm On Mar 26, 2016
The commentary problem has been around for long but i take it to be just fun.
*one qualifier between Nigeria u23 and Ghana u23 in Abuja stadium......" and Monday James is about to enter for the Nigerian team, but this is saturday evening, can Monday perform on a saturday evening ?"
one enyimba f.a cup match and muri ogunbiyi misplaced a pass and the commentator said "muri ought to be flogged for that pass"
my all time commentator is the guy that commentated the brazil vs germany world cup game, one of the best commentaries in recent times.

U be prophet I swear cheesy, after buying feul for 250 per liter in preparation for the game, switched to AIT, very boring game, very small pitch,

to make matters worse very childish commentary, had to switch over to pes things, the game wasn't worth it.

Funny enough when I was asked the scoreline, I bluntly responded 1-0 in favor of Nigeria, cos when I last checked Naija where leading.

Never knew the chickens didn't see off the game.

lol chickens? Hilarious

Dummy. You didn't have to make such a dumb remark either. They aren't hired by Supersport (not supersports) but by NTA who have the rights to that match. Supersport would never hire such a bunch of non professionals.

No sir, they are not being lackadaisical about their jobs, i feel they are on a learning process and they will get better too. John Champion never got it right at first. There are better and more respectful ways of correcting them if that's what you intended to do than to bring them on a social media like this(lets protect ourselves, no b only Nigerians dey nairaland). Whatever happens to Nigerians and Nigeria, you ain't left out. Nobody knows it better sir. Goodmorning boss

options like? let me guess; go to his house and tell him he did a great job?

Okay firstly I'd like to express my dismay at the poor diction and obvious lack of requisite knowledge Nigerian commentators portray in our NPFL matches and international matches vs other countries.

And secondly why are Nigerian commentators always expressing their support for the Nigerian side? what happened to just giving a fair commentary like it's done in foreign matches i watch on t.v?? you hear statements like "our" boys are playing well.

This lackluster unprofessional show of mediocrity did not start today but the commentator for today's match vs Egypt was very annoying, i mean it irked me so bad i had to volume down the t.v. but on a second thought i felt i should listen and laugh at his dumbfoundness.

As i kept watching the match, i wasn't satisfied with just listening and laughing so i started documenting (yep it was that bad).

So for those of you that didn't watch the match and those that were too angered to listen to the commentary, here are the one's i picked. Enjoy!

*The game is looking 3 points for the super eagles...really??
*Ogene Caro slide the Egypt number 11 and the ref says play on so If he likes he can lie down for the rest of the game....isn't this partial and rude to the opponent??
* As the captain of the side he would get up....(he said this when Mikel was fouled)... so only captains can get back to their feet after being fouled??
* A kick and a yellow card to....to...(trying to check for the players name but probably didn't find it)...to...(then he realised he could just say the country's name)...to Egypt
*Ogene trying to find his man...As it is this time or that time it did not work...
* As it is now the Egyptians would be satisfied going home conceding all 3 points to the super eagles...who told him that??
* He didn't need to do that a goal would still give us 3 points...showing preference and disrespecting the opponent again (this happened when an Egyptian defender cleared out Moses' golden chance to double the lead)
* We have 3mins to play and if you do 3min by 60 seconds we have 180seconds...the eagles should not slip up...d eagles should not slip up...oh! the Egyptians have equalized!

So there you have it, our joker of a commentator. Add up the one's i missed

what of the part where a ball kicked way over the goal post and the commentator was saying,we don't have an airline if not nigerian airways would be sent to retriveve the ball(i'm paraphasing)

if it was an egyptian that kicked the ball,it seemed we need to send egyptian airline to get the ball.

Commentating is actually correct

i gave up on english, when i found out that even george bush make mistakes in english language,we shouldn't forget that he is exposed to english and english alone.

My rule,if it sounds nice, then it can be said.

i need help here, using the words 'are' or is.
how are you?
why not
how is you?

of all are is meant to be used for more than one person,e.g How are they doing?
how many are they?

How is she?
can't be How are she?

I need help,explaning this?
