IMHO, a man that pays a woman in order for her to stay with him, is LESS than a man, who hasnt got the right character that would have a woman love him, because of HIM.

A woman loving you for who you are does not translate to being stingy as hell. The love between a man and a woman is not "Agape". It is "Eros" and it is not free. It's costs something. Buying lunch for your girl does not mean you are over-paying her. If you feel she does not deserve evening outings, then why did you ask her out in the first place? My guy, change this your mentality else your wife and children will suffer.
