Ebonyi is the location of the VVF repair center that covers South South and South East States. The figure quoted represents the total number of cases treated at the center and not necessarily Ebonyi State indigenes suffering from VVF.

I absolutely refute d false claim by USAID visitor. Why should she erroneously come out to misinform the general public. The National Obstetric Fistula Centre in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State is the 1st national referral centre for fistula patients from all the 36 states of Nigeria, including the FCT. Over 3.000 fistula operations done there comprises of women from all the states of the federation with Ebonyi State contributing some percentage of the number. Sometimes, all the patients operated in the hospital are from other states especially Enugu State, Cross River state, Benue State, Anambra, Delta, Edo, Osun, Lagos, etc. May be she only inflated her figures to drum the state governors support for the hospital. This is a correct & 1st hand information from a FISTULA SURGEON working in the hospital for many yrs & has operated in over 7 Northern states where the incidence & prevalence of obstetric fitula is over 10 times that of Ebonyi National Centre.

Ebonyi state has VVF centre built by the wife of the former governor, Martin Elechi as her pet project. The Federal has since taking over the centre because of its significant. Women come from far north and other parts of country for treatment hence high number of recorded cases .The centre is doing excellently well and should be appreciated because, this is the best project undertaking by any first lady dead or alive. Women who has been treated of this ailment understands better .

U may even say that they are in their late 40s to suit ur denial argument, but note that a problem well defined is half solved. The fact that it is rampant in ur region doesn't make it a general case. Yes, unwanted pregnancies do occur in the north, but do u know the use of statistics? I am a northerner and I served in the East where u will see a girl that is barely 13 but had performed at least one abortion. Keep denying ur lifestyle which u are known for, but note that the rulership of falsehood over truth is temporary.
