Dear Stakeholders,

It’s that time again were we plead that you join hands with us to help alleviate a struggling family from the claws of the dreaded poverty. We received a report (https://www.nairaland.com/1315227/e-helpers-network-tehn-official-thread/6#44755815) from a nler earlier on in the week about a family needing an immediate intervention and we’ve since proceeded to investigate (Please see our field worker’s report below) and validate as required

• Pay the outstanding rent (2K * 9 months) = 18K
• Pay a years rent (2K *12 months) = 24K
• Pay the outstanding school fees = 75K
• Balance realised from this campaign will go towards restocking of the shop

We shall donate 100K to this cause from balance of funds and appeal to each and everyone of you to please dip into your pockets and support us however small an amount you have to spare.

Field worker's report:

I visited Mrs Akinlana today as planned at her shop/residence..

She has 4 children –
Oldest 12 years is in Jss 2,
2 Kids in primary school,
A baby of about 14 months who I met with her.

She narrated her ordeal with her hubby, how he left home unannounced leaving her to cater for 4 children and with 9months rent in debt. She mentioned that she has been the one paying for the children's school fees for 4 years now - about N53k per term‎. This has affected her business a great deal. They also had some extra budgetary expenses last Dec that made her collect money from Corporative hoping that her husband will refund her as promised. She has recently finished paying the loan. She is not owing anyone except for the Landlady and school fees.

She is looking at assistance with the rent, present schools‎ fees and some funds to restock her business.

She appears to be very hard working. She makes hair, sells soft drinks (bottles & can), hair products and extensions, sugar, exercise books and so on. She also makes and sell washing soap.

Her rent is N2000 per month for a room. They occupy 2 rooms and are owing for 9months.

We have advised her to release the husband's room to the landlord so that the rent doesn’t keep accumulating‎ as it isn’t sustainable going forward. A new rent is due by June.

School fees : N71, 500 for the 3 children. School bill attached.

. I can attest to d authenticity of this claim. I know dis family well albeit from afar. I don't know d op, but I can testify dat all the things she said are very correct. The woman is illiterate but d kids are very brilliant. When I first heard d gist in d neighbourhood, I wondered how a man would abandon such brilliant children.

You're absolutely correct, the children are very brilliant. The first and third were best overall in their respective classes last term while the second was best in maths, basic science and a couple of other subjects I can't recollect. Even before their dad took off the woman was the one handling the bulk of the school fees and living expenses. The cooperative loan she took was on behalf of the both of them and he had mapped out how he was going to assist in offsetting it, only for him to take off leaving his wife with the loan, rent, fees and four mouths to feed. She was able to offset the loan but at the expense of her business. Now they're struggling to get by. Last time I saw her, she said even though she only eats once or twice a day, the children have never missed their three square meals and that makes her glad. I'm very positive that she'll be able to overcome this setback if she has sufficient funds to re-invest. I'm appealing to Nairalanders to assist with the little way they can. May we never lack.

Sorry but where is this woman located? Is school not free in Lagos? She needs to downsize and send her kids to state school. So after we pay one year or term? Is that the end of the kids schooling? When life happens we have to cut our coat according to our size. I will expect TEHN to at least have advised her of this fact.

Be rest assured that we did hence our decision to intervene rather than finding a solution.

She understands the need to downsize but it can't be immediate due to obvious reasons. Her current model of hard work and hope is not sustainable but we strongly believe she will do everything within her capacity to plan and execute accordingly with the downsizing mindset going forward

Am glad you guys know this. Because Nigeria is going to go through a rough patch for a while. Everyone needs to cut costs. That 53k can go a long way for her in case the business falls on hard times, which with the current situation of things it may. Hardwork and hope in this situation is certainly not enough.

As always with all TeHN cases, we actually spend considerable amount of time educating them so it's never a tick box exercise. We understand our donors aren't picking money from the street hence why we ensure donations aren't diverted and thus used for intended purposes only.

Our involvement is simply defined as end-to-end process where success to us means she is back on her feet with a realistic/positive outlook to managing whatever life throws at them henceforth

So please do support us as you've always done in the past

Stay blessed

Very valid observation and suggestion from you. True school fees are free in public schools but their standard of education is so poor and most of their pupils are below average academically. Even before her setback, she had been advised to withdraw her children to a public school, but the children are very brilliant and she doesn't want anything to dampen their potentials. That's why she had struglled to pay their fees term after term all by her self. I've also asked her if she will be able to keep up with the fees in the subsequent terms and she answered in the affirmative. As long she is able to boost her business and return back to her saving habit, she will be able to provide for all their needs. My major grouse with her is having four kids in an economy that doesn't favour the middle/lower class. I told her this when she was pregnant with her last. But the deed has already been done, she can't throw her children away. She can only work hard and give them a better life than she had. Please assist any little way you can. Thanks
