Hi Mismarshal, it will interest you to know that I started this whole MIHS thing on nairaland after I delivered. I can authoritatively tell you that your friend didn't tell you the truth about why she was turned back at POE. MIHS maternity package was not subsidized by the government but was rather created for low earning citizens/immigrants. I have travelled to the US five times since my delivery and no immigration officer has requested to see my payment receipt.

I know a lot of people benefited from MIHS maternity package while it lasted and hope they will come online soon to corroborate my claim.

If indeed the highlighted portion of your statement is true how does someone on a B1/B2 visa qualify as a citizen or immigrant in other to benefit from this subsidised package? You have clearly from your post inadvertently admitted that people enjoyed benefits they were not entitled to at MIHS created specifically for low income residents . Nobody on this journey would have been granted any visa if we had claimed that we were low income earners in the first place. So, anyone with MIHS receipts better avoid the aforementioned POEs

Hello house,
My testimonies plenty.
1) my mum got her visa on monday at abuja, she went with her burden of proofs but itb was not checked. Just 2 questions ( were are u going and why). White paper given to her and Vo is typing, my mama refused to go feeling like d woman never check her plenty papers na security man come explain say no need, u've been given visa!

2) had my beautiful big baby girl same day by 7; 42am at Oakbend by dr F.
After 4yrs of marriage, 2 nasty 1st & 2nd trimester miscarriages. This miracle came. At abt 4 months was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, put on insulin 3 times daily and considered high risk pregnancy. This discouraged me greatly I almost left d American dream, plus had some doctors I originally wanted to use in america who turned me down cos I was on insulin.

Exactly. U just hit the nail on the head. That is another grammer for subsidy. And if a service is subsidized, that means somebody is paying for the balance.

MadameU I think you should try harder with the hospital for them to draft the letter that their bill was thus for self pay patients. If they don't agree, go back to the embassy. Another person should attend to u. Explain to them that if the service was subsidized, you werent aware because you believe the low price was cos you were self Pay.
However, be that as it may what is the remedy now as u have paid mihs all the money they demanded for? Do they want you to pay to a charity abi what? Don't say the last part o!

Finally, corresponded with dr F and settled for him. Travelled last month 12th, with edd for 19th may at 33 wks ga. 1st 2'antenatal visits with one of dr f other doctors cos he travelled. Was good & uneventful. 3rd visit with dr himself then he's like our scan shows edd for june 10th. Am like not possible o! So he sends me 4 a more detailed scan & monitoring at oakbend.
After results. Makes decision to induce me that baby is already big n good to come out especially with the diabetes.
So am back to hospital on sunday night, inducing starts & progress well but baby is reacting badly to d whole process. Doctor stops and opts for cs.
Next morning cs, baby is out and no crying. Am scared lying there I just started praying. God bless all d medical staffs cos abt 2 or 3 mins looked liked forever untill I heard her cries! Am like abeg make unna pinch her well well make she cryyyyyy.

God is good. Still in d hospital, cos am recoperating and baby needs to be monitored well since I had diabetes.
Don't know what my bills will look like cos I had plenty extras here n there so am waiting.
But I thank God for d doctor, his staffs and d oakbend pple cos I have my 8 ibs 4 ozs beautiful daughter alive with me.

I dont even know which post to reply to (whether this one or the earlier one) because I've got tears in my eyes reading your testimony... embarassed

Miscarriages, then pregnancy at last, then diabetes with all its risks and threats, then the agony of waiting for the silent baby to cry!

Haba!

If you know your intentions prior to the interview then not notifying them is misrepresentation ma. It is always better to put it all on the table for your interview and rest easy than to withold information and spend weeks agonising over the possible effects at the POE.

Honesty is the best policy long and short.

Is the hospital in the same state? Anyway fill a new ds160 form with the new doctor/hospital contact information. Submit it and get the confirmation page. Call the US consulate and explain that you had to modify some information on your earlier form and would like to change the ds160 number on your application/cgi page. Also ask if this would reflect a change on your appointment booking as well (I can't remember if it does). They would ask you to send an email with a scanned copy of your passport biodata page and new ds160 confirmation page and call them back after you do. It'll take about 48 hrs to change to the new ds160 number after this.

Why do you want to start creating issues where there's no need na?
If u have already filled the ds 160 and can't change it like vcole suggested then goo with supporting docs for the new hospital and inform them u changed plans after u filled the form. As long as your are prepared to support your claim of your hospital of choice even if na obama hospital, you are good.
Ok. What if the vo now gives u a cavear that u must use that hospital and u arrive at another poe?

That is horrible. I will force them to call in hospital and clarify everything. It's bad news undecided

Force? Are you going to dial the nos by yourself and insist the hospital speak with them....

The CBP are not interested in explanation, said they wont breach HIPPA privacy act & would only work with the bill presented to them which according to them is unacceptably LOW!!! Force doesn't come into this, best thing is to avoid POEs already known for high drama.

@ LadyGuinivere , Another4life

Same thing nefertitiram and i surmised off NL but people catch feelings easily &don't want any argument... What we pay is ridiculously LOW by their standard, it only looks big to us cos our currency is in the loo....

What some of us don't put into account is that these officers are real life human being too and have medicare needs, someone whose co pay (insurance premium) is almost $10k and he hasn't even made a dent in the bill seens someone on tourist visa with total bill of 7k,

Even Saint fit vex.....

Evemama,

If we stay to count the works of the Merciful and Graceful Lord, we won't do nothing else, all we can do is say Dieu Merci! God be with you all..Kiss baby for us.. kiss

I know say una sabi grammar wella for nairaland grin You all will agree with me that most Americans do not pay cash for medical care, hence the reduced package when you are a self pay patient. As at 2012 when I used MIHS, I got another self-pay package for around $3,000 in San Diego but opted for MIHS because my brother insisted that I stay in Phoenix. 2012 is over 4 years ago and I refuse to accept that spending a little under $3,500 (including pediatrician fee, circumcision and drugs) for childbirth then was cheap.

People that used MIHS will attest to the fact that a lot of Latinos and Somalias use MIHS hence the reduced self pay package.

While I was in California last year, an hospital gave me a breakdown for self pay maternity package for under $4,500 which my friend used 7 weeks ago, will this also be regarded as too cheap? It is a known fact that some POEs have overzealous immigration officers, the onus is also on us to identify these POEs and avoid them like plague. In my own case, I have not had any problem going in and out of the US (divine favour).

I came out of retirement/ghostmode to air my views on the MIHS thing. I wish you all peace and favour on all sides.

Total bill $3,500? The bill was subsidised whether you believe it or not. You can always test your theory by going through Chicago POE when next you travel {Insert sarcasm} grin
