Nigerian wonderkid demands astonishing pay-rise of ten times his current Man City deal

Manchester City starlet Kelechi Iheanacho has been advised to ask for a pay-rise ten times his current earning at the Etihad Stadium.

According to the Mirror, the wonderkid is keen on a weekly wage of £150,000, which is an eye-catching leap from his current deal of £15,000.

The striker is understood to have been advised by his representatives that he has earned a contract at least equal to that of Raheem Sterling, the England international who moved to Manchester from Liverpool in a headline-making transfer last summer.
https://cdn.caughtoffside.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Kelechi-Iheanacho-Man-City.png
Certainly, while Iheanacho’s demanded wage increase is significant, he certainly merits an improvement on his current deal, with the Citizens understood to be planning to reward him for a fine campaign.

Iheanacho shone in pre-season for the Sky Blues, and has gone on to become a sensation for City.

He has scored seven goals in 25 EPL showings—of which only six have been starts—and has also scored a further six goals in the domestic cups.

During the course of the campaign, he has displaced Wilfried Bony as the club’s backup option to Sergio Aguero, with the Ivorian frontman having only managed four league goals this term.

If there is something I dislike most about Siasia, it is his choice of team selection; the "my boys" issue.

Siasia has done this on several occasions and the NFF always play deaf and dumb. He is fund of having certain set of players he calls "his boys" and would always invite them at the detriment of other quality players. Such was the case when he was the Super Eagles coach in 2011 when he kept inviting below average players like Isaac Promise, Chibuzor Oknokwo, Solomon Okoronkwo and Yinka Adedeji just because he took them to d Olympics in 2008. The last time I set my eyes on Yinka Adedeji in 2009 or 2010 he was clubless and was only playing football on the streets of Agbado-Ijaiye, Adura to be precise, a suburb of Lagos. Next thing Siasia Invited him to the Super Eagles.

I have sadly noticed the trend of invited players for this U23 team. There is too much favoritism. How can players like Victor Osimhen, Taiwo Awoniyi and Junior Ajayi be the leading U23 strikers when players like Imoh Ezekiel, Isaac Success, Chisom Chikatara, Aaron Samuel and Godwin Obaje fall under this age category? Next thing he has penciled down Odion Ighalo. Recall too that Siasia brought Odion Ighalo to limelight. Ighalo was Siasia's captain at the 2009 WYC hosted in Egypt. All those likes of Ubong Ukpai to me are not even supposed to be in the list of best

The other day, I read the story of how he was battling with Amaefule's fitness. Amaefule and Amuzie's fitness problem is no issue but Leone Balogun and Kenneth Omeruo "are too injury prone" right?

Injury prone Stanley Amuzie is a preferred left back option over a more industrious and very fit Kingsley Madu.

Forumites, we are stake holders in this whole thing. Let us not cease to make our suggestions. Even if Siasia would ignore, a very high ranking NFF official or sport administrator or even technical committee member can take up Siasia's selection case.

It is indeed a sad thing. We are so promising but coaching + administration have always been the cog in the wheel of our progress.

So under 17 boys just beat our Olympics bound team.... There are so many players in siasia's team that shouldn't be there.
We have so much talent at this level that we can select a solid world class team but I am afraid of the final selection.

Yet Coach Samson Siasia wants to follow the same wrong foot steps that Manu and Ugba followed. Hope some persons will not come here and start defending him again.

This is a big sign or warning that something is wrong somewhere.

Yes there is and should be course for concern. You should be moved because of Coach Samson Siasia's choice of players. I want to believe that we have better U23 players in Nigeria than what we normally turn to invite to the camp. Just imagine the Flying Eagles defeating the Olympics team. That shows that Coach Samson Siasia must have allowed sentiments or wrong judgment to control his thinking or player selection. It is a very big shame of the just promoted U17 to defeat the next to be or Super Eagles team B1 or B2, any how you rate it.

We have Godwin Obaje, Chisom Chikatara and co, but Siasia would prefer Hussain Bolt and other wrestling like built or conditioned players. It is shameful.

Hope Sir TheGoodjoe is well armed and prepared with better and superior arsenal to argue this out. But if you are bent on supporting this kind of thing, then be ready for another heart attack in the Olympics proper if we go with the wrong players.

Haba, you are calling my name to defend what? See me and Yara Yara, see trouble.

I said we have no proof of sentiments attached to Coach Siasia's selection. So we should not Keep making such statements.

Congrats to the Flying Eagles and their coaching crew. I hope their hard work leads them to lift titles.

I hope Coach Siasia and his crew learn from this defeat and return stronger.

I get your point and how we are bothered with the current come conditions of the current dream team. However, we should reduce our push for external influences because it is best to give the come coaches free hand to grow and learn from their mistakes.

This is what is called a baseless accusation. There is not concrete evidence. They lost a game, that does not mean the coaches are not giving their best. Coach Siasia does not have his best players due to their club engagements.

I believe with S. Moses, Nacho and others, it would be a different result. Remember, the Dream team lost to the current U17 champions. A good team.

Iheanacho: Champions League parting gift for Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini and Kelechi Iheanacho

Nigeria starlet Kelechi Iheanacho has said Manchester City will do well to secure a UEFA Champions League spot as a parting gift for outgoing manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Pellegrini is quitting The Etihad after three years and he will be replaced by former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola.

The Chilean coach helped City achieve their best-ever finish in the Champions League this season when they reached the semi-finals and Iheanacho said the team will fight to beat off the last-day challenge of rivals Manchester United to return to the competition next season.

Manchester City, on 65 points, need only a draw at Swansea City to pip United, who host Bournemouth, to the remaining Champions League place on Sunday.

“Manchester City are a big team who belong in the Champions League,” said Iheanacho on a television interview.

“The manager has done great and he deserves for us to qualify for the Champions League.”

It was Pellegrini who promoted the 19-year-old Nigeria forward to the City first team in August and he has repaid him with 13 goals in all competitions this season.

“He gave me the courage,” Iheanacho remarked.

You call this baseless accusation? What else could be the reason for Coach Samson Siasia's not too impressive selection criteria? Am not saying the op is right, but when you begin to do things this way over and over. Then, it becomes easier for people to associate your actions with such accusations.

Does it mean Coach Samson Siasia does not know how to pick quality players for this kind of national assignments? Siasia only knows his 'boys' and its either he does that for a reason best know by him and only him alone. Since you call it baseless accusation. Does his selection policy favour the good of the team? No. Then what?

Liverpool loanee Awoniyi won't go down with strugglers Frankfurt

Taiwo Awoniyi in action for FSV Frankfurt

AfricanFootball.com has been specially informed Nigeria Olympic international Taiwo Awoniyi will not go down to the lower league should Bundesliga 2 club FSV Frankfurt be relegated this season.

Frankfurt are second from bottom of the table with 29 points going into the last game of the season on Sunday at home against fellow strugglers 1860 Munchen.

They will need to win and hope other strugglers like MSV Duisburg, who parade former Nigeria star Obinna Nsofor, fail to do so that they could at least make the relegation playoffs.

“Taiwo will not go down with Frankfurt should they be relegated this season,” a top source told AfricanFootball.com

“If they were relegated, he will move on loan to another club.”

The 18-year-old Awoniyi has scored once in a dozen appearances for Frankfurt, who have lost their last five games.

Nigeria Olympic team coach Samson Siasia has admitted his team were “poor” against the Flying Eagles in a test game in Abuja on Thursday.

The Olympic team, who paraded the likes of goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel, Segun Oduduwa, Sincere Seth, Daniel Etor and Stanley Dimgba, lost 2-1 to the U20s.

“This is what I have been saying – that I don’t have a team because most of the players are being held back by their league clubs,” said Siasia.

“I had only about three regular players in this game and overall we were poor.

“We need to do more before our trip to Korea for the invitational tournament.

Reports in England claim The Nigeria Football Federation have made an approach to Liverpool starlet Sheyi Ojo in an attempt to secure his international future.

Ojo has made a taking impression in the 10 appearances he has been given by Jurgen Klopp this season, scoring one goal and making three assists, the most recent of which came against Chelsea on Wednesday.

He is well-regarded by the Football Association and has represented England at every level from Under-16 to Under-19 level but the same was true of Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi, who elected to commit to Nigeria in March.

The 18-year-old, who is expected to start the final game of Liverpool’s campaign at West Brom tomorrow, is in no rush to make any decisions at this point in time but it is a measure of how quickly he has developed that Nigeria are already want him on board.

Oghenekaro Etebo To Jet Out To France With Super Eagles Backroom Staff

https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/34591Etebo.jpg
CD Feirense attacking midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo has confirmed his availability for the upcoming friendlies against Mali and Luxembourg and added that he will travel to France along with the Super Eagles backroom staff.

Before his trip to Nigeria, the Dream Team VI star will be involved in a crucial game for his Portuguese setup on Saturday when they take on Chaves and a win over the opponents will see his side promoted to the topflight.

“Etebo will be available for both friendlies versus Mali and Luxembourg, he will arrive Nigeria from Portugal hopefully next week,” Etebo’s representative Eddy Ogbemudia told allnigeriasoccer.com.

“The Portuguese Segunda Division ends this weekend, arrangements are already on ground for him to fly with the team from Abuja to France.

“We pray and hope his team secure qualification to the top division of the Portuguese League, since they play a crucial game against second placed Chaves tomorrow (Saturday) by 3pm.”

The former Warri Wolves star has forced himself into the Super Eagles set-up on the back of his imperious displays for the Dream Team VI.

“The young man is excited and always happy anytime he is called to the national team because it is another opportunity to represent the country be it Under 23s or the Super Eagles,” Ogbemudia concluded.

Etebo has played three games for CD Feirense since he debuted, and scored against Academico Viseu at the end of last month.

RIO OLYMPICS| No Automatic Shirt, Not Even For Mikel – Siasia

https://www.thebreakingtimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Mikel-Obir.jpg
Nigeria’s Olympics football team coach, Samson Siasia has insisted that all the invited players to the team’s final camping must work hard to earn their inclusion in the team, as there would be no automatic shirt for any player irrespective of club or status.

Siasia noted that no player would be guaranteed a direct invitation to join the team, adding that all the invited players, including the over-aged will train together at the teams camp for the technical crew to pick the best.

The former Super Eagles coach, who was reacting to the role played by Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel at Chelsea’s last Premier League game against Tottenham, expressed his satisfaction with the performance of some of the players in the 60-man list he has submitted to the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF), including the 10 over aged players that made the list. According to him, every player would however be given the chance to prove himself.

“It was very strange for me to see Mikel playing a defensive role for Chelsea against Tottenham. To me, yes he is good this time around but we do not know what is going to happen. We have not made up our minds on who is going to the Olympics or not. “When we come back from South Korea, we will start again and look at the foreign-based players as well as the over-aged players. Everybody is going to get a chance to prove himself and any player in the list, whether over-aged or not must prove his invitation as there would be no special treatment for anybody,” he noted.

The AUTHORITY on Saturday gathered that Mikel, Ahmed Musa, Odion Ighalo and Ogenyi Onazi are some of the Super Eagles players that were included in the 60-man provisional list by coach Siasia.

Exactly. The current U20 team have been together for years and they are playing with their best crop of players. The Dream team do not have their best players. I still trust Coach Siasia's team of coaches to prepare a strong team before the tournament.

Let us free Coach Ugbade a bit. He also helped in Nacho's growth. Sometimes, when coaches make mistakes, they say things to cover their tracks. Remember Pellegrini saying Iheanacho is not a striker?
And I honestly think he is not a striker. He is okay at the Ozil role but better at the Pirlo role in my opinion.

Despite Nacho's high passing accuracy, which I think will make him an asset for Guardiola, his best talent is his finishing which makes him a finisher. Most Suitable for the false nine role which Guardiola is a fan of.

How do we expect Siasia to succeed in Rio when we are already condemning his selection prior to the announcement?!
If we have no confidence in him, or his potential selection for the Tourney, I guess the Thread needs not to exist!
Are we better than the Technical Committee of the NFF that are monitoring the National Teams and their respective Coaches?!
Let's SiaOne selects his own Team; I'm sure he's gonna replicate or surpass his success at 2008 Olympic with his final selection!
Stop comparing Siasia to Manu, remember with his "poor" selection, he won the Africa U23 Championship!

Listen there is something we see which all these people do not see.

Don't be carried away with his U23 AFCON.
For Manu Garba did the same thing, but his team could not go any where at the World statge.

Stephen Keshi won AFCON with this same selection problem but go criticized later on for reasons similar to what Coach Siaone is doing.

His team went from oryu to a laughing stock.

The best Coaches in the World get criticized too.

TheGoodJoe:

You have not said why you think Coach Siasia's selection is for transfer financial gains. There is no proof of that except that you do not like his selections. Football is more than Choosing. You need a strategy and players that can adapt to it.

I did not say no one should criticise but we should not make remarks that are negative without proofs.

That means Coach Samson Siasia's strategy can only be adapted to and executed by 'his boys' the average players.

The truth is that, the time the competition starts proper, all these strategy of Siasia 'may' be exposed because many other countries go with strickly the best.

The 18-year-old has come into the limelight in recent weeks under Jurgen Klopp, and the prospect of his involvement with Nigeria is genuine cause for excitement

'Iheanacho, Ojo, Iwobi: Grading Nigerians in EPL 2015-16'

When the bristled, grimacing visage of Jurgen Klopp squinted into a slew of flashing cameras in the belly of Anfield back in October, it was almost a reflex to work out the potential advantages to the Nigerian national team. The same happened when Manchester City announced Pep Guardiola's arrival to come this summer, and much was made of Kelechi Iheanacho's precocious but relatively unrefined talent, just waiting to be coaxed into a bonfire by the combustible Catalan.

The obvious beneficiary at Liverpool this time was young Jordon Ibe. The lively winger caught the eye under former manager Brendan Rodgers, and was courted extensively for the Super Eagles, before instead opting to represent England. It seemed his speed and eagerness would be ideal for Klopp's gegenpressing and zippy transition-based style, although he's yet to make the anticipated step up to the Three Lions.

The rise of the German national team over the last decade has been built on, among other things, the sheer number and quality of coaching available to young players. The 'German Machine', a chugging, shuddering steam train; immovable, implacable but latterly staid and effete, has given way to a conveyor belt - all continuity of motion and efficiency of movement.

Of this new wave of German tacticians, Klopp is of course the very avant-garde, and his transformative effect on young players such as Ilkay Gundogan and Mario Gotze whet the appetite regarding Ibe.

However, while his arrival has brought a revival to, not just the team, but the cathedral-like surroundings at Anfield, Ibe has been left huddled in the pews, peering pensively as Sheyi Ojo participates in serving Mass.

The 18-year-old has been a major beneficiary of Liverpool's run to the Europa League final, as Thursday engagements often lead to major squad rotation for league games.

Since getting an assist in his first start against Stoke on the 10th of April, Ojo has taken to the Liverpool first team with consummate ease at a time when the limtations of Ibe's one-paced inefficiency have begun to stand out. Given that , at their most promising, they largely filled the same position, playing on the right of midfield, what is Ojo doing that his teammate is not?

For one thing, there is the fact that his game has a lot more variety to it, in terms of what he can and cannot do on the ball. Ibe, for all his speed, needs space to accelerate into, is not a great passer under pressure and is, ironically, inimical to the counter-attack, being poor in decision-making.

Ojo possesses similar speed, but is much better at retaining the ball. His dribbling is rarely ever simply for effect, even in his eye-catching moments he is a very goal-oriented player, often using his strength - he was training with the first team at MK Dons at age 14, reportedly - to surge powerfully towards goal.

Speaking on BBC's Match of the Day, Arsenal and England legend Ian Wright was effusive in his praise of the youngster, extolling his 'beautiful left-foot' as he starred in Liverpool's victory over Bournemouth back in mid-April.

"He's got this calm demeanour about him," Wright said, highlighting another key area in which Ojo has stolen the shine from his Nigerian teammate. His close control and vision underpin his playmaking abilities: he has copped three Premier League assists already this season, and that in just four starts, averaging an assist roughly every 100 minutes, and made a decisive contribution against Chelsea on Wednesday.

Ibe has managed two all season, one every 550 minutes.

Considering their present trajectories, it is not uncharitable to suggest that Ibe's decision to turn down Nigeria is something of a blessing in disguise. There is a smidgen of schadenfreude, admittedly - and do not act like you don't think so too, dear Nigerian reader - but, with reports indicating a move is being made for Ojo presently, Nigeria may yet snag the better Liverpool player.

If he does pitch his tent with Nigeria, he can have the Olympic Games to look forward to in the summer, and will be at the forefront of a new wave of excting talent coming through.

With the likes of Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ojo from the Premier League alone, the future looks ever brighter for the Super Eagles.

As the saying goes, when one door closes, another opens.
