Nigeria Target Odubajo Shines As Hull City Record Comfortable Win Vs Derby County

Hull City are well placed to qualify for the Football League Championship playoff finals on the back of their 3-0 rout of Derby County at the iPro Stadium on Saturday in theChampionship Semi-final, Game 1.

Manager Steve Bruce named Nigeria target Moses Odubajo in his starting XI, while Arsenal loanee Chuba Akpom and Super Eagles striker Sone Aluko were amongst the seven substitutes on the Tigers bench.

Abel Hernandez’s shot from 25 yards gave Hull City the lead on the half-hour mark before Moses Odubajo’s deflected shot went in off Jason Shackell in the 40th minute.

In second-half injury time, Andrew Robertson further dampened the morale of the Derby County players when he scored Hull City’s third, firing in a 25-yard effort after he was teed up by Odubajo.

England U21 international Chuba Akpom came off the bench in the 83rd minute; Sone Aluko was an unused substitute.

The second leg will be staged at the KC Stadium on Tuesday, May 17.

Alampasu, Etebo win promotion in Portugal, Musa Yahaya misses out

Saturday was a pleasant day for Nigeria's goalkeeper Dele Alampasu, Sunday Emmanuel and Oghenekaro Etebo as they secured promotion to the Portuguesse top-flight league.

Feirense recorded a 1-1 Chaves on Saturday to third place with 78 points, but got promoted because first-placed team Porto II won't played in the top flight as Porto cannot have two teams in the same league.

This is the first time the team will be promoted since 2010/2011.
However, former Flying Eagles star Yahaya Musa and Fidelis Irhene could not help Portimonense from moving up after they drew goalless at Varzim to finish fourth with 78 points.

I mean Daniel, Seth and Etor are your only so called Siasia's boys. Etebo, Azubuikwe and Junior Ajayi are all missing couple that with our other worldclass players i would say that u are very much overreacting. To me all this prep is a waste of money just wait till all players are available.

I observed that he is getting a bit selfish too... Same with the last game. He has players in better positions but will still take it on himself.. Hopefully, someone talks some sense into him. We do not need that in the olympics.

Ifeanyi Matthew

Several European clubs are hot on the chase of Nigeria international Ifeanyi Matthew ahead of the summer transfer window.

The versatile 19-year-old midfielder was Nigeria's top star at the CHAN in Rwanda and has since established himself at four-time Premier League champions Kano Pillars this season.

Checks revealed Matthew has suitors in Spain, Denmark and Belgium.

“There are concrete offers for Ifeanyi and it is now left for him to decide his options,” said a top source.

The Pillars star, who is on loan from FC Hearts, could play as a defensive or offensive midfielder and has represented Nigeria at U17, U20 and full international levels.

He is technically sound, intelligent and he is armed with superb vision as well as a decent shot.

'Ify' has also been called up to the Nigeria Olympic team who are preparing for an invitational tournament in South Korea later this month.

Incidentally, interim Eagles coach Salisu Yusuf gave him his big break with El Kanemi two seasons ago.

Austria Vienna frontman Olarenwaju Kayode reckons that he deserves a call up to Nigeria’s U23 national team ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio on the back of his performances in the Bundesliga.

The former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eaglets star is one of the first names on the team sheet of manager Thorsten Fink, starting 30 out of a possible 35 games in the topflight and has notched 12 goals.

“I have not been contacted to play at the Olympics, I need to be contacted first , ” said Olarenwaju Kayode to allnigeriasoccer.com.

“I don’t really know the team or players because I have been so busy here and wanted to qualify for the Europa League and now we have qualified, I think I am a bit relaxed.

“If I am invited, as always I will try to put in my best, also I will make use of my pace. Sure, it is true that I am one of the fastest players in the Austrian Bundesliga. ”

Only Jonathan Soriano (Salzburg) and teammate Alexander Gorgon have scored more goals than the Nigerian striker in the Austrian Bundesliga ahead of the final round of the season on Sunday.

Catch up on the performances of players of Nigerian descent in the English Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Super Eagles rising starAlex Iwobi failed to start for Arsenal for the first time in nine Premier League matches as the Londoners recorded a 4-0 win against demoted Aston Villa.

Iwobi remained on the bench; former England international Gabby Agbonlahor did not travel with the Aston Villa squad.

Still in London, John Obi Mikel was rested as Chelsea drew 1-1 with champions Leicester City at Stamford Bridge. Canada U20 international Fikayo Tomori made his competitive debut for The Blues when he was introduced on the hour mark.

Manchester City will return to the Champions League next season thanks to their 1-1 draw at Swansea City. Ex-Golden Eaglets star Kelechi Iheanacho scored from close range in the fifth minute and subbed out in the 72nd minute.

Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor started and played the full ninety minutes as Crystal Palace lost 4-1 to Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium.

England U21 international Jordon Ibe played 64 minutes of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at West Brom, for whom Victor Anichebe did not make the squad.

Ibe’s superb solo effort leveled things for Liverpool in the 23rd minute. The Reds number 54 Sheyi Ojo played for 81 minutes while Portugal youth international Tiago Ilori watched proceedings on the bench.

Everton earned a comfortable 3-0 victory versus Norwich City, with England midfielder Ross Barkley playing the last 21 minutes for the Toffees at Goodison Park.

Elsewhere, at the Vic, Odion Ighalo finished the season with 15 goals after firing blanks in Watford’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland. The Super Eagle played the full game while teammate and Scotland star Ikechi Anya was on the bench for this one.

Dele Alli wasn’t involved for Tottenham Hotspur in their 5-1 loss to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park. England youth-teamer Josh Onomah was introduced in the 46th minute.

Finally, Emmanuel Emenike and Victor Moses were second-half substitutes as West Ham were beaten 2-1 by Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium . The Fenerbahce loanee came on in the 61st minute while Moses was introduced four minutes from time.

Italy international Angelo Ogbonna clocked up another ninety minutes for the Hammers.

Lillestrom Striker Fred Friday Rejects Move To Spartak Moscow

https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/19797Fred.jpg
Lillestrom striker Fred Friday rejected the chance to join Russian Premier League outfit Spartak Moscow last summer because he wanted to get used to the rigours of European football before taking the next step in his career.

His intermediary Atta Aneke has also revealed that a number of teams based in Asia, Holland and Belgium are monitoring his performances in the Norwegian Tippeligaen.

“They were very serious about signing him last season, but we decided that it was best for him to stay an extra season in Norway and continue with his development, ” Aneke told ESPN FC.

“There is interest in him from Holland, Belgium and Italy. There have also been offers from the MLS and China, but we want him to have a good European foundation.”

The 20-year-old Friday has caught the eye this season, and had found the net in each of his last seven games in the top division prior to Wednesday’s 1-0 win against SK Brann.

The Gabros FC product trained with Nigeria’s Olympic National Team in 2014 but has not debuted for the country at any level.

Olanrewaju Kayode. I have followed this lad since he featured at the 2009 U17 hosted in Nigeria.
Kayode also featured in 2011 and 2013 U20.

He played for ASEC Mimosa of CIV and now with FK Austria Wien.

While I believe he deserves a call up. I dnt think he will make the final list even if invited.

The truth is that, the time the competition starts proper, all these strategy of Siasia 'may' be exposed because many other countries go with strickly the best.

You think so? Explain why Coach Aime Jacquet of France in France 98 dropped his top players like Cantona, Ginola and still won France 98.

Ancelotti dropped Rivaldo who was a former World best and AC Milan's best player.

Brilliant article. It highlighted a lot of things which showed why Klopp prefers Ojo over I've.

What is most important is that, modern day coaches prefers players with passing and creative abilities playing on the wings.

The player has to be between a creative midfielder (number 10) and a striker.

The likes of Messi, Aubameyang, Neymar, Gareth Bale, CR7 represent this.

Iwobi also has this quality and it is nice seeing Ojo showing such brilliance too.

Speaking on BBC's Match of the Day, Arsenal and England legend Ian Wright was effusive in his praise of the youngster, extolling his 'beautiful left-foot' as he starred in Liverpool's victory over Bournemouth back in mid-April.

"He's got this calm demeanour about him," Wright said, highlighting another key area in which Ojo has stolen the shine from his Nigerian teammate. His close control and vision underpin his playmaking abilities: he has copped three Premier League assists already this season, and that in just four starts, averaging an assist roughly every 100 minutes, and made a decisive contribution against Chelsea on Wednesday.

Ibe has managed two all season, one every 550 minutes.

Considering their present trajectories, it is not uncharitable to suggest that Ibe's decision to turn down Nigeria is something of a blessing in disguise. There is a smidgen of schadenfreude, admittedly - and do not act like you don't think so too, dear Nigerian reader - but, with reports indicating a move is being made for Ojo presently, Nigeria may yet snag the better Liverpool player.

If he does pitch his tent with Nigeria, he can have the Olympic Games to look forward to in the summer, and will be at the forefront of a new wave of excting talent coming through.

With the likes of Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ojo from the Premier League alone, the future looks ever brighter for the Super Eagles.

As the saying goes, when one door closes, another opens.

“Success does not have any choice, he is going to Watford. They are not ready to sell him to any other club.” Dominic Egbukwu, speaking on behalf of French intermediary Oliver Noah, told allnigeriasoccer.com.

“The owner of the club said he is not selling him and Uche to any other club apart from Watford. Atlético Madrid came since for him but they refused to sell."

It is sad that Isaac Success would have been an Athletico Madrid player this season but the greed of his managers and agents is hindering one of the brightest attacking talents to come out of Nigeria.

He might have been part of the team that got to the Champions League Final.

With the departure of Quique Sanchez Flores from Watford, it shows the club does not have the right managerial stability for a player like Success.

I wish the young man the best and I hope he finds his way into a top club.

Maybe Success should look for another agent to get him out of their contract.

First, they turned down Inter Milan's bid for Isaac Success. Now it is revealed they also turned down Athletico Madrid. Sad.

Nwakali scores in Norway
by Sammy Wejinya 16 May 2016, 23:23
Nigerian youngster, Chidiebere Nwakali scored on Monday to inspire Norwegian club, IK Start, pick up a point in the 1-1 draw with Aalesund.

The former Golden Eaglets captain opened the scoring in the 65th minute of the Eliteserien clash decided at Color Line Stadion.

The 19-year-old showed cold-bloodedness and maturity well beyond his tender years for his goal just after the hour mark.

He took out his markers with an intelligent run off the ball, creating space for himself before curling home a right-footed shot past the Aalesund goalkeeper, Andreas Lie.

Nwakali also owed the goal, partly to his teammate, Vassbakk Ajer who crossed in exemplary fashion from the right.

It was the Nigeria’s first goal in nine league matches for IK Start this season.

Nigeria U23 skipper Azubuike Okechukwu will join the rest of the squad on Sunday ahead of the invitational tournament in South Korea, AfricanFootball.com can reveal.

The Nigeria U23s will participate in the four-nation invitational tourney which begins on June 1 as part of their preparations for the Olympic Games in Brazil, and have been training in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.

The 19-year-old Okechukwu will arrive Nigeria from his base in Turkey this week, and will join the team immediately ahead of their May 29 departure to South Korea.

The tournament will feature other Olympic Games participants Denmark, Honduras and hosts South Korea.

Meanwhile, several other overseas-based players are also being expected for the tournament.

Nigeria are in Group B of the Rio Olympic Games alongside Colombia, Sweden and Japan.

With the quality of talent springing up every now and then, Nigeria may again take the world of soccer by storm. I wish the NFF highs a Coach that knows how to blend these promising youngsters.

I believe if the NFF support our local coaches, we can produce the kind of coach that can lead these lads to great success.

One of the best footballing team I ever watched was the U17 of 2013 coached by Manu Garba, Emmanuel Amunike and Ndukka Ugbade.

With a little support, our coaches can compete with the best.

Iheanacho

Kelechi Iheanacho will shine at Manchester City under incoming manager Pep Guardiola, according to the player’s father, James.

There have been some concerns whether the Kelechi will get the same opportunities under Guardiola as he got under Manuel Pellegrini this season, but his father told AfricanFootball.com his boy will feature prominently for the former Barcelona boss.

“Kelechi will definitely play under Guardiola and I am sure of that,” James Iheanacho told AfricanFootball.com

“He has done well whenever he has been given opportunities this season and I am sure the new coach will want to work with him.”

The 19-year-old Nigeria international has had a breakout season this term, scoring 14 goals in all competitions after he was given his chance by Pellegrini, who will leave his post for Guardiola.

The striker’s contract with the club runs until the summer of 2019, though his agent is in talks with City for a new and hugely improved deal at the Etihad.

I am compelled to trust our local Coaches because of my firm believe in the Nigerian project, but at the other end am made not to trust them. Am looking for one to prove me wrong.

As I said before, tactics and strategy comes first before player selections. So criticising a coach because you do not like his selection should carry a bit of conservation because the players might not suit his strategy.

Just like Guardiola dropped the stars of Barcelona. Like Ronaldinho, Marquez and Deco. They were top players but they did not fit into Guardiola's tactics and strategies.

Pellegrini left out proven stars like Jovetic and Dzeko to give Iheanacho his chance.

It is football. The youngsters keep working hard and wait until they get a call up.

By doing so, what kind of message will you be sending out their to the talent you have ignored. I just love Coaches that work with the best.
