neglected i hear you say? you need to check your facts very carefully. do you know the benefits that this part of the country enjoys. do you know what derivation is? there is amnesty programs, ministry of niger delta, direct oil companies grants and endless advantages.

lets be honest if they spend everything nigeria earns on that part of the country it will still remain the same.

The comparison is not fair. Lagos and Abuja both have ghettos too. You cant picture city centres of Abuja and Lagos then capture a ghetto in Niger delta. U should go to capture GRA or trans amadi or rumuola in ph or Asaba in delta or uyo in Akwa ibom or calabar in cross river.that will be fair.
The photos are misleading.
A better part of the beautiful houses you see here in Abuja are owned by our Niger Delta brothers.

are yhu saying they don't have leaders in da region. what are the leaders using their state allocations for. and worst still they had their son at da helm of affairs for six gud years yet he never deemed it fit to develop his region.

These pictures are not in anyway compareable..if Nigerdelta is demanding for more. What have they done with 13 percent and all the monthly allocations...I smell lies with the leaders of the region

my problem with the ND people is that they them self are not truthful in there doings.when the likes of Tompolo,Asairi,Ayiri, and the rest started this struggle then it was for the region but when money starts coming in it is for them and there families alone.

To me,that is not the problem, lagos is develop because they have more of foreign company there, okay,Abuja we know that it is oil money at work their but remember it is also our capital,it need to look good, do you know how much oil companies and even govt are paying this communities, what are they now using it for,if you see the houses this guy are building or the kind of cars they drive you go fear. Why can't they use this money to develop their communities. Truth be told they are selfish.

it will take a long time before Nigeria's attention shifts from oil...
it's possible but with the crop of leaders we have have, all eyes on oil for now...

Which neglect?
As many people have rightly pointed out, oil producing states receive a larger allocation than non-oil producing states i.e. they are collecting extra, what have they done and are they doing with the money, isn't that money meant to be used to develop the region?

Please whose responsibility is it to develop the Niger Delta?

Because Jonathan was compensating them with amnesty and bringing in small small development in Niger Delta (e.g Niger Delta uni) until Buhari came in and deemed it unnecessary. Hence their uprising.

What benefits does the Niger Delta enjoy anyway? If you compare that to what oil gives Nigeria, you'll understand that its nothing.

The Niger Delta gets less than 20% of what Nigeria makes from oil and gas. It may be even less than 10 percent.

Op did you only see that slum in the Niger Delta?

How about these?
You ought to be objective, there are slums all over the country. If you go to places like Ikota, maroko, bariga, Alagbado, ajegunle etc in Lagos you will weep for people

That could actually be, but is the same practice everywhere even Dubai. You can use developments in Abu Dahabi and Dubai compare Aljmah others oil producing states.

there is a state in the niger delta, they built an airport with over 20 billion. At the end of the build, they decided that there was a mountain in front of the airport so they spent another 20 billion removing that mountain. This is the sum story of the different governments in the niger delta. it is always easy to shout oppression but have we asked the right questions?

I guess ur lecturer was a bigot. are da Niger deltans without leaders who receive monthly allocations. they shld ask their leaders wat money is been used for, shey Jonah was their son yet for 6yrs he failed to develop his land

That's a good question. In all honesty, I think Jonathan's presidency gave them a little succor. Then we rejected their bro and hell was let loose. Again, calling them 5% didn't help.

If you have ever been to interior Niger Delta, na you go even start the revolt. That's if you are an honest person. Those guys have been treated badly for too long. They should have started their revolt since the 70s.

Make bubu try calm them down and start some concrete development in that zone. There's too much suffering. Their brother was trying to be a Nigerian president and didn't want to be seen as an ijaw president. He should have started some real projects there.

No that is not why they are blowing up their communities. Their communities deteriorated to that level because they keep blowing them up.

and as long as they continue destroying the place with their actions, they will forever be backward

When u collect something u pay well for that thing if it is important to u.
Niger Delta will not and can never remain backward. They will grow but note, a day shall come when everyone will say it is dia thing give them.
ND were asking for 50% n some people in Nigeria said no, n ND were giving 13%.
Hmmmm. Pls don't say they will be backward for ever again.
Now they are bombing pipes we never know how the feature will be. They might shift focus.
The govt should negotiate and do at least two to three of their request and develop all the Niger Delta States.

I feel their pains really. But why are they just coming up with all these bombing during PMB's regime who is just one year on seat? Have they forgotten that their own son GEJ would have fixed their problems having been on seat of power for 6yrs? Shame!

The agitation have been there for years. You know the agitation was just reduced because of Jonathan.

Besides Jonathan became a war time president because of those who didn't want him in power. Spending trillions fighting boko haram money to be used for better things.

What on Earth is wrong with us?!
First of all the first picture is simply deceptive cos it's certainly not Lagos
Secondly over 90% of the spectacular buildings in Lagos were built by privately owned companies and not government.
Thirdly Lagos gets less money from the Federation Account than either Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Delta state the difference is that Lagos spends its money wisely.
Lastly wouldn't it have made a bit more sense if the originator of the article took a picture of Port Harcourt or Uyo to represent the Niger Delta. Why didn't he take a picture of Makoko to represent Lagos or Zuba to represent Abuja?

I hope those stoking ethnic hatred and secession would be able to stand the heat that would be the most probable consequence of their actions.

Not that I support the relegation of NigerDelta to the background but if we had nobody that has ruled Nigeria that's from there(I mean from there, the main Place),I would have blamed the north and the West but there was a President of Nigeria from the NigerDelta that ruled for SIX whole years-who then are our real enemies?

You don't argue that the time was too short but what was even started? How long does it take to build a hospital,School,Road and a skyscraper ?

Don't blame the north and the west for our predicaments.Even the Governors that are from here, what level of development have they initiated? You can steal but put small thing on ground and cart the rest-No matter what happens,If the your successor comes and then put small too from where you stopped and steals the rest.Little things would be accumulating on the ground waiting for generations of looters to put small and loot the rest.In that sense we make progress in seasonal And clustered developments,Just like River State-

The same GEJ you kept bombing his government right from when election redresults were announced?
