Panic In Anambra Communities Over Arrival Of Fulani Herdsmen by unstableaswater: 7:54pm On Jun 07, 2016

From Obinna Odogwu, Ekwulobia

There is palpable tension in Alor and Oraukwu communities in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State as about 15 Fulani herdsmen armed with AK47 rifles, machetes and daggers stormed Agbo village yesterday. The residents of Agbo, Okebunoye and Umunambu villages in Alor community; and its neighbouring Ohokwu village, have deserted their homes for fear of being attacked at night by the armed herdsmen who reportedly stormed Alor by 4:30pm.

This is coming barely 12 days after about 50 poisonous bows and arrows were intercepted from two suspected Fulani herdsmen at Ubana farmland in Dim-Ubana village.

When Daily Sun visited the area, several residential buildings were locked while the police, and other security agencies were patrolling to ensure tight security. Some residents said they have sought refuge in neighbouring communities.

The traditional ruler of Alor, Igwe MacAnthony Elibe Okonkwo, told Daily Sun that the Fulani herdsmen stormed their community in a Toyota bus and went into the bush.

His words: "Yesterday, around 4:30pm, information came from the residents of Agbo village in Alor, the boundary between Ohokwu village, Oraukwu and Alor that heavily armed Fulani herdsmen, numbering about 10 or so stormed our community. According to the residents who were working in their farms, the armed Fulani arrived in a Toyota bus and started going into the bush while the bus drove away. They were armed with AK47 rifles, machetes and daggers.

"As a result, the people of Agbo, Okebunoye and Umunambu villages deserted their homes for fear of being attacked at night by the herdsmen. So, I immediately alerted the DPO and the state Police Commissioner who sent in a team of policemen. I also informed other security agencies who arrived in droves. "

The state police command spokesman, Ali Okechukwu, said he was yet to be briefed on the development, promising to get update our reporter. However, a DSS official who preferred anonymity confirmed the development.

Obiano has everything under control. I just feel sick to the stomach.

I wish Fayosi was an Igbo man and a Gov in the South East.

The way this generation of igbo govs and senators conduct themselves is utterly cowardly, whilst their people get murdered.

Tell me since wen SE became so familiar that Fulani now know every corner, that they freely enter our woodland

I wont be surprise if animals we have lived with for centuries that never attack us start getting violent with these animal called fulani antagonizing them.

SE is so peaceful that even dangerous animals never attack anybody, but the Fulani have set out to take away the peace becos Buhari is President.

I wonder why my brothers from the East will always be playing the victim card when it comes to herdsmen. Will a Fulani man do so ( crying and wailing) if an Igbo, Yoruba, Edo, Efik, Ibibio, etc were to be posing a threat to him in his native state of Sokoto or Katsina? What are your vigilante groups and your "local police" force doing? Why can't your governors come hard on these marauders, just like Fayose did, banning them from his state?

Willie i think u dont want to go for 2nd tenure... am sure one of the driving factor is the 4 million against 600k that was paid to them earlier in a dispute.. With the way things are going in this country, i think u are bringing cows and abokis for onitsha boys to mis-handle . The tension in Nija is high, dont play to the devils gallery.

they said they own 85% land mass with the fake Nigeria map. and yet they are still disturbing the pease of the 5%.

Eleven days after Nigeria
got her political
independence on October 1,
1960, the Sardauna of
Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello
said, as was carried by the
Parrot newspaper on
October 12, 1960:
"The new nation called
Nigeria should be an estate
of our great grandfather
Othman Dan Fodio. We
must ruthlessly prevent a
change of power. We use the
minorities in the north as
willing tools and the south
as a conquered territory and
never allow them to rule
over us and never allow
them to have control over
their future.

I use to support obiano but of recent, i came to know the man is a fraudster and an empty noise maker who litter all Nigerian news tabloids with fake achievements.
He has been handling this fulani issue in a very bad manner in anambra but dishing out nonsense and non existent hope that he employed illusional chopper to monitor fulani movement in anambra which is a big fat lie.
Obiano decided to work with propaganda instead of the AVS team with security cars and shotguns peter obi bought for them before he left office. Abia state that lack good vigilante force with proper equipments are taking care of any fulani's threat with action while my state with all the necessities are living in fear.

2018 will justify the means for the way forward.

Obiano should know that Anambra people do not forget easily. If what happened in Enugu repeats itself again, he's bound to lose the next election.
He should ask Ngige.
