Not just the semis he missed the game against Croatia that we lost by playing our worst game and that goal showed he had the total package..on the down side he had a red card that i felt was unfair and a stupid hand of god with the game won. Amunike would have been right to drop him for the final but the rest is history.
thanks for reminding me of the croatia game, i forgot he missed that too. im happy u share the same view with me pertaining funsho, the guy is good but the coaches know better to have dropped him.

Bamgboye was d only foreign based player in that squad.

He contributed so much to the attack with his aggressive offensive play.

His major down side is his lack of discipline.

I saw him in d list of invited players earlier on bt got fillers dat he is out of shape and lost form. This reminds me of what happened to Kabiru Akinsola aka omo Alhaja of the 2007 Golden Eaglets.

Amuneke has penned down Ovie Ejaria and two other kids for his under 20 team. Great news, he should also consider others like Musa Yahaya and co in the future.

EXCLUSIVE: Amuneke List Man United, Southampton and Liverpool Prospects For Flying Eagles Duty

Head coach of the Nigeria U-20 team Emmanuel Amuneke has pencilled down the names of three highly rated Nigerian teen in Europe for call-up to the national team.

Top of the list is Liverpool’s teen prospect Ovie Ejiara whom the manager know so well from his time at the U-17 when the 18 year old trained with the World Cup bound team of 2013 with Amuneke back then assisting head coach Manu Garba.

Tosin Kehinde of Manchester United is also high on the priority list of the U-20 coach who has been made aware of the player’s availability by the media officer of the team Adewale Ajayi.

Amuneke who is keen on strengthening one of the most talented bunch of U-20s in the history of Nigeria football has also marked Southampton’s teen wonder Olufela Olomola for call-up to the team, the 18 year old who made the bench for Southampton four months ago in a premier League game.

However the trio will most likely be called up to the team if the manager’s dream of having a training camp in Europe before the start of the Africa Youth Championship (AYC) in Zambia is approved by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The former Barcelona player who lead the Nigeria U-17 to World Cup glory in 2015 is also wary of the fact that club commitments could prevent them from featuring at the AYC, hence he has lined them up to fight for spot if they secure a World Cup ticket as widely expected.

Porto signing more Nigerians. Moses John...

Ex Spurs Trainee Musa Yahaya Delaying Moses John From Joining FC Porto

FC Porto new teen acquisition Moses John is yet to link up with the Portuguese side despite being issued a travelling visa by the Portuguese embassy in Nigeria due to the delay in Musa Yahaya work permit renewal.

The representative of the duo wants Yahaya who was signed permanently by FC Porto from English side Tottenham Hotspur after a loan spell with Portimonense last season to guide John who has never been on an international trip.

A representative of Mutunchi Academy, the nursery team that produced the talented duo told Owngoalnigeria.com that John has already gotten his visa but Yahaya work permit renewal is slowing his trip to Portugal.

” Moses has never been on an international flight in his life, so we want Yahaya to guide him through the trip but Yahaya’s work permit renewal is yet to be received hence the delay in the arrival of both of them” Auwal Mohammed told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” We are however hopeful that they will be in Portugal before the end of the month to begin pre season training with FC Porto, It shouldn’t last beyond that”.

NIGERIA MAKE MOVE TO CAP EXCITING SOUTHAMPTON TEEN STRIKER OLUFELA OLOMOLA AHEAD OF ENGLAND

Nigeria are making move to cap 18 year old Southampton teen sensation Olufela Olomola ahead of England, according to leaks exclusively gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com.

Southampton have a good reputation for developing top young talents over the years. The likes of Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain,Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana among others have all come through the ranks at the club with being given a chance at the first team at some point in time.

Up next appears to be an English teen with Nigerian roots in Olufela Olomola who arrived Southampton from fellow Premier League side Arsenal in 2014 and he is simply refereed to as Fela by his close friends and teammates

Olomola made the bench for the first team of Southampton last season in the Premier League in their game against Sunderland, a sign of how much he is regarded by the English Premier League side.

Comfortable as a central striker or as a winger, He cults an imposing figure, big in appearance and strong in strength, two qualities that has made pundits to predict he won’t struggle to fit into the demands of first team football even though he is just 18.

Yet to be called up by England at any level, the Nigeria U-20 have listed him among potential additions to the team who are presently in camp ahead of their return leg tie against Sudan in Nigeria in the race to be at next year Africa Youth Championship in Zambia.

” We are aware of his availability as a matter of fact we are close to having contacts with him, he is on our list of potential invitee to the Flying Eagles” Aliyu Mohammed team secretary of the Nigeria U-20 told Owngoalnigeria.com.

Arsenal lost Ejaria and Olomola. I hope they have better young talents. If not, this will be a bad sign for the club's young prospects.

Good one,he should not forget Yahaya,Mathew,Sadiq,Nura,Eze,Bello,Awoniyi too should b considered to fight with his mates,U-23 is too big for him. This U-20 set will be over loaded especially the midfield and attack. With proper selection, this will probably surpass 2005 set in terms of talents. At least 3 potential world class players.

Kanu: Nwakali Has The Potentials To Do More Than I Did At Arsenal

Kanu Nwankwo has given his backing to Arsenal bound Kelechi Nwakali to be a big hit at Arsenal when he completes his move to the Gunners in August.

The captain of the Nigeria Under-20s who was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the 2015 U-17 World Youth Championship signed for Arsenal in January but will expectedly get his career underway in England by August.

Kanu still highly respected by fans of Arsenal for his exploit with the team was instrumental in the Gunners winning the race to sign the talented teen believes he could surpass his achievements at Arsenal.

“He is going to Arsenal at such a young age which means he could stay there longer than I did and develop properly above all he could win more laurels than I did during my time at Arsenal” He told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” I have high hopes on him succeeding at Arsenal, he is so talented for his age and he has a very good sense of listening, he will succeed at Arsenal, I have no doubt about that in my heart”.

Osimhen: Qualification to Zambia is our focus

www.nairaland.com/attachments/3995824_osimhen_jpeg_jpega29bcc810a25c41d7bdc0e7c3d2fa8fe
Striker Victor Osimhen etched his name into football folklore at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile in 2015 when he broke the long-standing nine-goal scoring record and set a new 11-goal mark as Nigeria cruised to a record fifth title.

Together with the core members of the all-conquering squad in Chile, they have progressed to the Flying Eagles, and have so far churned out some impressive results much to the delight of their fans.

Named CAF Youth Player of the Year in 2015, Osimhen and his colleagues are on the verge of picking a ticket to next year’s U-20 AFCON to be hosted in Zambia. A fortnight ago, Osimhen scored the winning goal as the Flying Eagles came from behind to beat their Sudanese counterparts 2-1 in Omdurman. The second leg takes place on Saturday, 23 July 2016 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

The 17 year-old who has penned a pre-contract with German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, is banking on the passionate Lagos fans to cheer them to a double over Sudan and seal their place at next year’s U-20 AFCON in Zambia. Below are excerpts of his interview;

Cafonline.com: How has the transition been from the Golden Eaglets that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile to the Flying Eagles?

Victor Osimhen: It has been great and personally, I'm still on cloud nine because I also had the opportunity of playing with the national U-23 team that won the AFCON in Senegal. I want to use this opportunity to thank the officials for giving me the opportunity of playing in that wonderful team. Our focus now is to secure qualification for the U-20 AFCON in Zambia.

How ready are you for the crucial second leg against Sudan?

Our preparation has been going on well since we came back from Sudan where we won 2-1 in the first leg. We have been preparing physically and psychologically; and the coaches have been keeping us focused for the return leg. We know it won't be an easy match despite the fact that we won the first leg. It has been a great experience for us playing against Burundi in the previous round because they are a very good side in terms of their tactical awareness. The atmosphere in the camp has been very great and by the Grace of God, we shall win in Lagos.

What does playing in Lagos mean to you?

We are happy to play the second leg against Sudan in Lagos. On a personal level, I'm very excited because I have not had the opportunity of playing in a Nigeria shirt in front of my family and fans in Lagos. My family and friends would be there to support us; and it would be a great opportunity for us to show the Lagos fans the stuff we are made of. We know the Lagos crowd will be massive and they will support us

What are your expectations?

I'm not good at predicting results of matches but we are confident we are going to win. In this team, we have a lot of players who can score and it is not down to only me. We should expect goals from the team and if I get the opportunity, I would utilize it and if possible create opportunities for others to score for others too.

Does the fact that Nigeria is the defending champion of the U-20 AFCON bring about some form of pressure on you and your colleagues?

I think it's a motivation but we must first qualify for the tournament in Zambia before talking about defending the trophy.

You and your mates have launched a hash tag #YAGI. What is the inspiration behind that message?

Let me start by saying that YAGI means ‘Young And Getting It’ and this was actually adopted from one of Nigeria's talented Musician, Lil Kesh (Keshinro Ololade). From our experience so far on the continent, we would probably be one of the youngest teams and we want to continue to give our very best. Winning the FIFA U-17 World Cup competing with some of the best teams in the world has helped in building our confidence. Winning the trophy in Chile has always been our biggest motivation coupled with the encouragement we are getting from coach Emmanuel Amuneke; who was one of the best players during his playing days. There is a strong level of competition in the team but we are not jealous of one another; we see ourselves as brothers and friends.

Osimhen, Nwakali, Chukwueze, 25 Players Land In Lagos Ahead Showdown Against Sudan

NFF 1st Vice President, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, who is also Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, on Monday led a high powered delegation that included President of the Nigeria Referees Association, Alhaji Tade Azeez and other chieftains of the Lagos State FA, to receive Nigeria’s U20 National Team delegation on arrival in Lagos.

The delegation landed at the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport around 10.30am for the final leg of their 2017 Africa U20 Cup of Nations qualifying fixture with Sudan, coming up at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Saturday.

A 35-man delegation comprising of 28 players and seven officials got their first taste of Lagos hospitality from the VIP reception after which they were cheered by some passengers at the airport lobby.

The team was later driven in a convoy to its hotel accommodation in Surulere, and had lunch before the first training session that lasted two hours at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

Coach Emmanuel Amuneke later addressed the players advising them to remain focused and dedicated to the task ahead.

He warned them not to be complacent against their visitors on Saturday, stressing that the fixture is not won until after the second leg has been played.

Mourinho Omits Nigeria Target From Manchester United Traveling Party To China

The young Nigerian-born midfielder Tosin Kehinde is not in Manchester United’s traveling party to China.

Per the official Twitter page of the Red Devils, Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho has named a couple of Academy stars in his 25-man roster but Kehinde’s name was missing from the list.

This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise though as the Nigerian was not considered for Saturday’s 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic.

Born in Lagos 18 years ago, Tosin Kehinde has been at the Red Devils since the 2013-2014 season and rose through the ranks before he was promoted to their U21 squad ahead of the new season.

Manchester United will trade tackles with Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai (22 July) and Manchester City in Beijing (25 July) during their trip to Asia.

Ovie Ejaria Showing He Is The Real Deal With Another Classy Display For Liverpool
Published: July 21, 2016

Ovie Ejaria lined up in the center of midfield as Liverpool made it four wins from four pre-season games after seeing off Huddersfield Town 2-0.

Unsurprisingly, the 18-year-old knitted the midfield, showed his class and the Reds lost balance in that position after he subbed out before the start of the second half.

Wednesday evening’s game was Ejaria’s fourth in pre-season as he was also given a run out against Tranmere Rovers, Fleetwood Town and Wigan Athletic.

Goals from Marko Grujic and Alberto Moreno secured a win for Liverpool at the The John Smith’s Stadium.

Jürgen Klopp and his charges will head to the United States on Thursday morning to continue their preparations ahead of the forthcoming season.

Coach Emmanuel Amuneke's boys were held by Nduka Ugbade's team in a warm up game played in Lagos on Wednesday evening
Nigeria U20 and Remo Stars played out a fascinating and at times, breathless, 2-2 friendly at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
The Flying Eagles’ opener, courtesy of Oche Salefu was cancelled out by Ekenne Awaze’s stunner.
Samuel Chukwueze could have put his team ahead going into the half time break, but his penalty was saved from Remo’s goalkeeper who was awe-inspiring throughout the game.
Coach Emmanuel Amuneke’s boys took the initiative through Orji Okonkwo but their lead was not to last, and Onu Promise scored a penalty to save face for Nduka Ugbade’s men.
Nigeria face Sudan in the second leg, final round of the 2017 U20 Africa Cup of Nations billed for Zambia on Saturday. The first leg played in Omdurman ended 2-1 in favour of the Flying Eagles.

Roma Starlet Returns To Nigeria After Suffering Knee Injury
Published: July 21, 2016

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Roma defender Nura Abdullahi is on his way to Abuja after departing Italy on Thursday.

The fullback has undergone surgery after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The 18-year-old was supposed to return to Nigeria with Dream Team VI trainee Sadiq Umar but delayed his trip because he had to undergo an operation.

Abdullahi has started his rehabilitation and had to travel with the Roma squad to Pinzolo to continue receiving treatment as all the doctors were with the team for their pre-season training.

When the Giallorossi squad returned, he was given a holiday and permitted to fly to Nigeria to see his family.

A product of Football College Abuja, Nura Abdullahi penned a four-year contract with Roma this summer after impressing officials of the capital outfit while on loan last season from Spezia.

CAF U-20 Qualifier: No Hiding Place For Sudan - Amunike
Augustine Akhilomen

www.nairaland.com/attachments/4006504_amunikeemmanuel_jpeg6a5f4c7fee6e5e7a5ac7fd03b144f07e
Ahead of Saturday's 2017 Africa U-20 Nations Cup second leg qualifier at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, Flying Eagles coach, Emmanuel Amunike says the team will take the Sudanese side to the cleaner in a bid to book their ticket for Zambia.

The team which won the first leg 2-1 a fortnight ago in Omdurman are just a step away from qualifying for the football showpiece as a draw or win would be enough for the team.

Besides, in Wednesday's friendly match, the team were held 2-2 by Remo Star as an own goal scored by Oche Salefu and a strike from Orji Okonkwo put the Flying Eagles ahead before goals from Ekenne Awaze and Onu handed Remo Stars a share of the spoils from the encounter that saw Samuel Chukwueze missing a penalty kick.

However,Amunike who has won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994 as player and led the Golden Eaglets to lift the U-17 FIFA World Cup in Chile in 2015, told soccernet.com.ng that there would be no hiding place for Sudan on Saturday.

"The task of qualify the Flying Eagles to the 2017 Africa U-20 Nations Cup is gradually coming to an end considering the fact that the team is just a step close to achieving it," Amunike told soccernet.com.ng

"Of course we are aware that the Sudanese team won't come to Nigeria to count bridges because they are also targeting a ticket to play in Zambia.

" The truth is, there will be no hiding place for them on Saturday because my team are in good shape to do a double on them." he said.

Exclusive: Liverpool Offer New Contract And Shirt Number To Ejaria

According to reports exclusively gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com, English Premiership giants Liverpool will in the coming days offer fresh terms to Nigerian wonderkid Ovie Ejaria as well as a new shirt number.

Ejaria is set to be given a pay rise by Liverpool following his fine performances for the team in pre season game which has drawn praises from people within and outside the club.

18 year old Ejaria who also made the team’s tour party to the USA will most likely swap shirt number to a senior squad number from his present jersey number 53 as he is set to be main stay in the first team.

” Preliminary talks have taken place over a new contract but nothing has been proposed yet maybe in the coming days and his current shirt number has also been talked about but we wait and see if he will change it before the start of the season” A source close to the player told Owngoalnigeria.com.

The departure of Joe Allen to Liverpool has further brightened his chances of having games with the first team next season as manager Jurgen Klopp has already confirmed that he won’t be loaned out.

Signed from Arsenal, two summers ago he trained with the Nigeria U-17 team in 2013 but he is also eligible to represent England at senior level.

Ghana Fall To Senegal On Agreggate, Out Of U-20 AFCON

Ghana U-20 men's team, Black Satellites, have been eliminated from the 2017 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations despite defeating Senegal 1-0 in the return leg played on Friday in Accra, crashing out 3-2 on aggregate.

Senegal won the first leg 3-1 in Dakar a fortnight ago.

The former U-20 AFCON champions' only goal was scored by Charles Boateng in the 30th minute, but it was not enough as the Senegalese held on to qualify for next year's tournament holding in Zambia.

This means Ghana will not be at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup holding in South Korea.

Ghana featured at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand where they were knocked out in the second round after losing 3-0 to Mali.

Flying Eagles' players have refused to back down on their threat to boycott Saturday's Under-20 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan in Lagos.

The players who have shunned training for three days running, are demanding that their outstanding allowances stretching back to their Golden Eaglets days be paid.

Otherwise, they will not step out to defend the 2-1 advantage they posted over Sudan in the first leg in Khartoum. Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick spoke to the players yesterday urging them to be patient with the cash-strapped federation.

But according to one the players who spoke on the issue yesterday, things are becoming unbearable to them in the camp.

"They are treating us as if we are slaves. Imagine that when we came back from South Korea where we won the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, they only gave us N20,000 as transport to go home.

Since then nothing has been paid to us.

"Even our coaches have not been paid for eight months. They have families at home. Are they spending all their days with the team for nothing?"

Amaju attributed the financial squeeze to the non release of government subvention to the NFF for two months running.

"We will try to do something for the boys. Things are really difficult, but we will see what we can do.

"The Flying Eagles are not the only team that have not been paid. The Super Falcons, the Super Eagles are all affected."

as much as I want to understand their plight, I do not think they have gotten to the point where they should be fighting for money

Their lack of qualification for the U20 will not hurt Pinnick or his job, it will hurt their careers. A few like Nwakali and Osimhen may have foreign clubs already, but what about the likes of Orji Okonkwo still looking to get a good deal? These international competitions raise players profiles

They have the opportunity to do something special, to win an U20 World Cup for the first time in Nigerian history and second in Africa, and they want to throw it away because they haven't been paid?

When you're trying to establish yourself, money should not be your concern. Getting your name out there should be the target.

Now, if these threats to boycott are on behalf of the coaches, I can wholly understand that and support them, but if it's the players, then no, I do not support that. If the senior boys are boycotting games, what makes these teenagers think they can do same?

These folks are being owed for work done since their under 17 matches for crying out loud!!!, same goes with the Nigerian coaches (who have families to take care of) being owed. This explains why I cringe when I read of the insults you guys hurl at these patriotic folks.

This is a new low for NFF
