You fill in four schools when you register for toefl, if you want to add more you have to pay almost 20 dollars per school. This can be done through the ETS portal yourself but I doubt if Nigerian cards would work. So just go to GIEVA but they would collect administrative charge sha

Nigerian cards work better through PayPal and cheaper compared to Gieva charges and no need to use Gieva for this aside from SAT registration

Plsss house, how can I send my Toefl test score to a school?

You can get it done yourself by logging into you ets-Toefl account and make the payment with your card linked with PayPal.

Hi guys. lol. more positive reactions. See as my pms full hahaha, Una don use style turn me to motivational speaker. Abeg o, I'm just sharing my experience. It's been great for me. All of una wey wan come my school lol There are hundreds of better schools na, no be compulsory make una come here. I just dey happy say I gain admission into this one. No more long posts. Another thing I noticed. The lecturers here are NOT "lecturers". They are your buddies. Them dey burst my brain and I never even meet them. I'll show you two mails: First from my course adviser then from that lecturer wey I say I famz, wey help me get the application waiver when I dey Naija.

Good morning,

I hope your trip went well. I will be in my office this afternoon. So if it is convenient for you we could set up a time to meet. We will need to do that before you can sign up for courses. My phone number is Bleep-Bleep-xxxx.

J

XXXXXXX,

First of all, welcome to the United States and to xxxxxxx! Second, I will be on campus shortly after lunch and will be there for most of the afternoon. I have a meeting at 1 PM (until about 1:30) but otherwise I would be available to meet you this afternoon. We can take a walk over to the Student Union and find a bus schedule (Bleep has its own bus system that goes all over xxxxxxx and is free for Bleep students). If you need help finding your way to the xxxxxx department (second floor of xxxx Hall), I can meet in you in the xx lobby.

Finally, I've just talked to my wife and we'd love to invite you over to dinner at our home tonight if you don't have other plans. In fact, until the semester gets underway and while you don't have things to keep you busy, you are welcome to spend free time with us. I'm not sure whether you have a phone for calling or texting, but here is my cell phone number: Bleep-Bleep-xxxx. My wife, xxxxx, wants me to give you her contact information as well. Her cell phone is Bleep-Bleep-xxxx and her e-mail address (cc'ed above) is Bleep@aol.com.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Sincerely.

These two mails may mean NOTHING to y'all but they mean everything to me. For the umpteenth time, it's my first time outside Nigeria, I only know about life in Unilag. See course adviser dey ask to meet me when e dey convenient for me. lmao, I remember my cursed adviser for unilag those years, you go wait tire for front of hin office and when him finally show. Him fit just tell you to come back later say him dey busy. Nothing wey you go do. Second email burst my brain. Na senior lecturer be that o. I told you there's no god to man sort of relationship here, lecturers dey do like person padi. The environment is just too relaxing. Again, I didn't get any Graduate Assistanships before leaving Naija but jobs dey here for campus. I'll write more about them when I have more info.

Finally, you can notice how excited I am and how I'm majorly focusing on the positives. It doesn't mean it's 100% smooth and rosy. It means I see my cup as half full instead of half empty. In life, you make your own luck. I have chosen to be happy, to enjoy life to the fullest and worry less about things, to try to fix things instead of remaining sad cos they're bad. You can PM others if you wanna read negative things about living in America, as for me. I am being optimistic and positive. God bless America! I have come here to succeed!

Yeah most Nigerian lecturers are not approchable easily.
I was recommended for a PhD admission by a school only for my supervisor to sly me. Till today she didn't send her recommendation and from what I know, LORs from supervisors carry weight coupled with the fact that she published my project in a journal.
Memories like this live long.
Our lecturers need to change their orientation

It will end in praise. Which bank ATM and whats the rate? Other banks charge higher. #Modified Go and open Stanbic Account with just 2k and you will get your ATM after a week. Opened last week Monday and i got mine yesterday. I just made an online payment with the ATM and i was charged #350 per dollar, GTB is #375...Diamond, Wema etc charge very close to black market.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. I see your pms, mentions, comments and reactions to my posts. It's good to know some people agree with me. So as not to derail the thread, I will keep the posts short and focus on visa enquiries smiley

There's a lot here o that many people have not talked about on Nairaland, don't get me wrong. I salute all the bosses for here, they're doing the most amazing job ever and me still dey learn but chei, it's like I've wasted the previous period of my life until that Friday I arrived in Newyork. For those selecting schools solely based on advertised Graduate Assistantships, e gbagbe oshi. Everything is not posted online. There are on-campus jobs, them yapa sef that will give you small stipend and some of them include one of these: full tuition waiver/half tuition waiver/in-state tuition. No be only your department go give you these things. The hostel wey I dey, them no get receptionist, customer care attendants, dining workers, etc and the advert dey say them dey find people and they're ready to give scholarships. There's even a bit of desperation for the advert like say them no fit wait to employ. Them post am for plenty places for campus.

Orientation begins today by 12, I go pick up my student ID card, social security card, etc and their papa... I go send applications to them and hope for the best, if I no get any job/funding sef. The fact say I dey America and the happiness wey dey my heart don dey enough for me. Happiness is my own priority, I no get time to kill myself with unnecessary pressure and sadness. Life is sweet.

My advice, make your search criteria based on the course you think you'd do best in. No go jump from Theatre arts to Engineering because of departmental funding or post-uni STEM. Don't think in a linear way... enter uni, get funded, graduate, do OPT, get a job, pay taxes, suffer in America, the end. Some people think any plan that doesn't follow this pattern is bound to fail. America is the land of opportunities, anything can work here. It is built for the creative minds. If you be PS4 champion for Naija, enter here. create youtube channel, flog everybody wey dey here and see as your life go well. that's an example.

Darn, another long post. I'm sorry. it took me 7 minutes to write this. my brain and fingers too dey speed. I'm sorry.

hello great NAiralanders ...Visa delayed Today
I hardly see people that smile today at Abuja US Embassy, when I got there people were just talking about the rate of denied..but I haven't see reasons why I should be denied cos am legit and I answer with confidence, it's like I am the most youngest in today's 7:30am appointment and this really motivate me to speak with no negative reaction..
like 3 nonimmigrant were wondering why I was denied, after my i interview. it was today I learnt some Nigerian cannot speak English just to Express themselves. they need to call interpreter for them. here is how the interview goes :
Vo:Why associate degree ?
Me: actually I was given admission in Oklahoma city university but....(she cut me)
Vo:What is your plan after associate degree?
Me: after my associate degree ,I plan to transfer to Cornell university to complete my bachelor's degree.
Vo: did you have family in the USA
Me: No,I don't
Where will you be staying in the USA?
I will be staying in the school hostel at Raiders hall
Vi:Who is your sponsor ?
Me :My dad
What does he do ?
Me:He is a successful business Man ,he has some couples of petrol station in the Ekiti state.
When did you past out from secondary school ?
Me: may2009
Vo: what have you been doing since then ?
I went to federal polytechnic for my national Diploma in Nov 2012 and I pass out may 2015.
She just brought out 214b and she said I can reapply.
Everyone that went to the lady before me was denied, even an old man that i think
Is going for visit was denied.. My advice to the VO is that not everyone can afford to pay for university . they should try and find a way to know a genuine student. Rather than delaying CC student visa, they shud know our currency presently has no value ,and some might prefer starting from a community college.. plz I'm planning to reschedule my appointment cos staying home is another delay but my school start date is 28th Aug ...
