Greetings to everyone in the house. I need the advice of the gurus here concerning my admission and chances for scholarship opportunities or funding. Here is my profile:B.Sc Electrical/Electronics Engineering with a CGPA of 4.08/5.00.Using the WES evaluation and conversion, it became 3.41/4.00. The challenge I am having right now has to do with my poor GRE score. I actually had a poor preparation for the exam; spent about three weeks for studying due to the nature of my present job.Truth be told,I should have taken my time to study very well before writing the test, but the need to meet up with admission deadlines of most schools for Spring 2017 made me act otherwise.I was able to put together a total of 295( Verb:147, Quant 148);too poor! I have always believed that a very good GRE, score added to my CGPA( which is not that bad) and my years of professional experience may land me at least some form of partial financial assistance(funding) .Aside the B.Sc, I also have HND and OND in the same field with a CGPA of 3.30/4.00 and 3.28/4.00 respectively without the WES evaluation.

Considering this low GRE score now, what do you think I can do? Are there schools in U.S that look at other factors( such as CGPA, years of professional experience, other colleges attended with certificates, etc) beside a very good GRE score to provide some levels of funding? The reason this enquiry is being made has to do with the fact that I will be largely relying on financial support(funding)for this dream of studying M.Sc in U.S, and Fall 2017 looks like the next two decades to me.

You need to have a copy of your transcript with you to do the conversion.

You convert the grades and grade points in your transcript from the Nigerian scale to the US scale using the conversion method used by WES as outlined below:

Our A = A on the 4-point scale = 4 points.
Our B = B+ = 3.33 points
Our C = B = 3.0 points
Our D = C+ = 2.33 points.
Our E = C = 2.0 points
Our F = F = 0 points.

Multiply the new points given above by the course unit as usual (i.e. a 4-unit course you got a B in would now be B+ on the US scale = 3.33*4 = 13.32 grade points, a 3-unit course you made a C in would now be B on the US scale = 3.0 * 3 = 9 grade points, etc.). Then sum up the total grade points for all semesters from first year to final year and divide by the total number of units from first year to final year.

With the WES conversion formula, courses with F grades are not included in the US CGPA calculation, thus increasing your overall US CGPA in the end. Only the grade from the semester/year when it was passed is used, but the failed course is still listed on the transcript where it was first failed. Thus, good news for those with a couple of Fs on their transcript. Also notice that our Ds and Es are converted to C+ and C respectively, thus also increasing your final US CGPA. This explains why those with lower GPAs, less than 3.0/5.0 and often with many Cs, Ds, Es and maybe some Fs, often see a huge jump in their converted GPAs because our D and E grades are converted to C grades (higher points) and their F grades previously used in their Nigeria GPA calculation are excluded in the US one. Thus, you can expect an increase of between 0.20 to 0.30 points to your final CGPA after conversion. Those with higher GPAs (above 4.0/5.0 especially) tend to see lesser increases after conversion because they often have mostly As and Bs (the differences in points for A and B between Nigerian and US scales aren't much), less Cs, Ds and Es (grades that add more points when converted) and almost no Fs at all.

I listed some schools that could accept your 2.52/5.0 = (2.60-2.80)/4.0 CGPA after conversion in my penultimate post. Read through again.

Good luck.

Don't post anything about the amount you have.
Scammers are everywhere o.
That aside, rewrite Gre and target 160+ in your QA.
Most schools have dec 1 as their fall deadline which is still far.
All the best

I'm willing to exchange $700 - $800 max, I will either send to a trusted go between say imperiouxx , warriboy21 when they confirm receipt you may send the naira or on the other hand, I will require a picture of the data page of your passport and visa in my email after which I will proceed to send you $700 or $800 minus the sending fee. And you remit the full naira equivalent to my Nigerian account. That's all
Lol all this plenty grammar. I have already traded with anikemoses and Hotwater. So sorry. If anything comes up or I know someone who wants to trade I'll let u know.

What's going on with all this very low cgpa? Your cgpa is low and you might find it hard to get schools that will accept this. What's the trend in your last 60 hours i.e upper level biochem courses? Do you have a good gre score and good references? If you have all this, you can prove a point with your application but you have to search tirelessly for schools that will compromise their admission standard. The least I've seen schools accept is 2.7/4 but you have to address your poor performance in your strong sop, combine with good gre and references.

Best of luck! Fanx for the imput....Really appreciate u for attending to me...would try as much as possible to sit for GRE as uve suggested....GOD bless u real good

Mekurexx safe trip.. I don wet ground for you grin grin..

Ok.. I should post my travel transcript now.
I traveled. On the 9th of Aug with royal air maroc
The trip to Casablanca. Was Long and boring..
I had a 17hrs layover Time and it was the longest wait of my life.
The food was so annoying that I actually. Cried in the restaurant cos it made me think about how much I will miss home,we were given a room much later.

The trip to new York was pretty cool, we got there earlier Than the scheduled Time

Now to the CPB check
Note: I got a visa to California but I transferred to Minnesota so mine was a different case
The cpb officer asked for my passport and I20 then she asked which university I was going to, I told her Minnesota state uni then she was like how come I have CSUN on my visa, I explained. To her that I transferred. Due to some reasons and she was like okay, but you will have to go to the office. For confirmation cos I was a minor traveling alone(she was super nice and assured me there was no problem as they only need to confirm which university I was really going to) I got to the office and waited about 40min (thankfully,I had enough time for my connecting flight) then the woman checked the system and found MSU( I had already transferred my sevis to Minnesota)
She just asked if I was sure I was going to MN and I said yes..
So she cancelled the Prev sevis number on my passport and wrote the new one on my MSU I20 and then stamped it and told me to go
Phew! I was Super relieved...
I was able to navigate my Way around jfk and I boarded a connecting flight. To MN(abt 3hrs)..

I think there's no problem with the cpb so far you are going through legal means
With God on your side you are good to go. Just be confident. And have the right document at hand.
Safe trip to everyone coming soon!

There was no problem at all flying with royal air maroc, I think I enjoyed traveling With them. Although they can still improve on their services...
