Good day great farmer,

Please I have over 1,000 layers which are in week 28 now and have started laying up to 23 crates as at week 27 but suddenly drop egg production.
we are now getting 10 crate at 30 weeks.

Please, kindly help me. what can i do?
medication up to date. they are just eating my food. please help me. i am suppose to be enjoying the hard money spent.

Helppppppppppp!!!!!!!!
few factors could be responsible . but make sure you, 1. buy your vaccines from a credible store n maintain the cold chain to avoid vaccine failure;
2. give them egg boosters i.e. vitamins n supplements that boost egg production.
3. are u sure 3-in - 1 was administered to d birds when they were 16+weeks? it is important depending on the environment and the breeding history from the parent farm.
4. maintain strict biosecurity culture.
5. increase lighting from 7:30 pm to 9 :30pm for 2 weeks n feed the birds a lil bit to induce egg lay.
6. check your feed for fungi or 'caking'.
7. Talk to a vet..
8. or we send 1 of our animal health experts to your farm . where is your location please?

Hi House. I have 520 layers which are 50weeks old. I currently feed them 2.5 bags daily and i get an average of 14crates daily. The issue is with the current rise in the cost of feeds and reduction in the price of eggs, i am considering reducing their feeds to 2 bags daily.

I would need your kind advise on how it can affect production in the short and long run. Cos by feeding them half bag less i get to save 8,900 weekly which would go a long way in increasing the profit margin.

Thank you.

What do you mean by reduction in egg price? There is no such and don't allow some people to deceive you on this. Please don't reduce the level of their feeds otherwise their reduction will fall and you may end up losing more than what you think you can save.

This doesn't make sense. In a period of increasing input cost, I.e. cost of feeds how can we be talking about reduction in the product price? It appears you farmers there have allowed the middlemen to take advantage of you. Or did the price in retail market also come down? If not all the farmers have allowed is increasing the middlemen margin by significantly shrinking farmers margin or even take some to loss making. My advice is to diversify your customers base and increase your working capital to be able to hold egg stock for few days like 3 to 6 days stocking. God bless you

You just have to be aggressive. Be willingly to deal with ppl, n pls i beg u, do not reduce there feed intake.

Infact, It's Only In Poultry That Increased Cost Of Production Leads To Reduction In Sales Price.A Bag Of Layer Feed Cost Btw 2800 To 3k Yet Prices Of Egg Kept Falling. It's Not Only In Jos,the Madness Is Everywhere.

It is because the farmer allowed it by succumbing to the antics of middlemen. Please go and check egg retail price in market and find out if there is any fall in price, it rather went up. The question then is; who is benefiting from the reduction in the price at the farm? Middlemen of course.

As a farmer you need to be strong financially and don't bite more than what you can chew, i.e. Don't expand beyond resources as that will lead to financial pressure. A situation whereby a farmer must sell the egg production for the day to be able to raise money for the feeds of tomorrow will lead to such farmer taking whatever price offered by the middlemen

Selling below cost of production only means working for retailers... One can as well just be an egg dealer by buying and selling Eggs. Fix your price by calculating your cost of production and after which you can decide to add minimal amount as profit regardless of wat is obtainable elsewhere. Truth is You will not run out of biz but have a committed customer base that will patronise you as long as your products are of premium quality and always available.
