taiwoliu...Yes its asbestos.. It's supposed to accommodate around 4000 birds but I intend to start with between 500 - 700(financial constraints and this is my first time).. Did this size cos I don't wanna worry about expansion on the short run

God bless ur hustle.

Can I expand mine cus the pen I have presently will not accommodate my chicks (pullet) in near future. They are currently 4 weeks old now.

If am expanding, won't it affect them?

I can't honestly give you expert advice but I feel expanding after you had the pullets in will negatively affect the health of the birds

Good job! Make sure you use automated drinkers, It makes things easier. If you live away from farm, increase the numbers to at least 1k so as to cover op costs and make profit

Thanks for your comment.
But I give them part of my rabbit feed (Anthony Rite - grower mash).
They died and we ate the rest (ducks).

Is this your first time of vaccinating them when they start dropping eggs? I learnt that when you vaccinate laying birds especially when you "deworm" them, there will be a slight in egg production but, will later return to normal production after 3-4 days.

Alakara, Babacele.

you are right hence u must administer vitamins immediately after giving vaccines or dewormers to help the birds.

if a bird eats up to 1.7kg till 4wks.
150 bdx = 1.7*150= 255kg
255kg÷ 25kg(wt of a bag of feed)=10.2bags
if u want to av an avg wt of 1kg and above.

@hindsight. Interesting project and updates... I must giv you kudos. A bit of advise though, building to d fence ws not a brilliant idea for ventilation purposes, enof light wont make it into d pen even during the day. And in my opinion d pen is not high enough jst incase U may want to expand in the future. I will talk abt the roofing too, but let me not make my post too long. Once mre, kudos.

Hello All, we have in our farm well bred 5,000 point of lay. The DOC were supplied by Zartech and they are currently 13 weeks with their vaccines up to date. Our farm has trained technical support from experts in the field so all necessary brooding rules are being observed. The POL will be available for delivery at age 16 weeks. Please book for yours before stock out. You can also make advance booking for other POL that will be ready at age 16 weeks in first week in December 2016.
