in germany only 60% of their secondary school grads go to unis, the rest are in technical schools

here we want degree without industrialization

For me, I believe it's a waste of money and time!!

The current form academics is for those with the biggest memory space in their heads not those who actually want to be practical with what they learnt in school.

Imagine having only 12 courses in Economics and being forced by the University's rule to take 30 other different courses. It's all about the money not about education anymore.

I could have finished studying economics in 1 year but because schools want more money, you are forced to stay in school for 3 extra years of electives. Ain't that some shiit?

Many of the "mechanical" engineers have no dream of nursing a mechanical project that will justify their interest in studying mechanical engineering. Many mechanical engineers don't know shiit about motor engines than the 17 years old road side mechanic's son who is an apprentice in his dad's shop. That says alot about going to pay millions for some theory oriented academia.

I am studying computer science now and i can tell you many of them don't know anything about programming big time yet

My degree is not a waste. I learnt beyond the lectures and tutorials. I didn't limit myself to the 'classroom experience.' It was a life experience for me.

and a mech engrs job is not to fix cars pls but to design, create , and optimize . fixing stuff is for technologists .

Studying Law has been an eye opener for me,beyond it I've learnt a lot about life. I'm never going to trade my degree even for the world. Inotherwords,my degree so far has not been a waste of my time.

Yes and No....yes because if left with what lecturers taught,then am sorry,its a waste of time because most university lecturers are so obsolete and archaic with the topics they are teachings,too many theory few practical.But then school education has opened my eyes to lots of things and to see beyond the four walls of the school.the problem with most of us is that we base our time on what they teach us in class,and not what goes on outside the class.Connections are there to be made,network with people of like mind,go out socialize a bit, then make your own personal research.Data is cheap a little now.Forget instagram,facebook and linda.who dem epp?.....University is more than what you are taught in class,think broad!!!!

the working place offers more connection, networking, socialization etc than any school environment can ever possible offer, now how does it feel graduating with a degree in building technology with almost zero practical experience only to discover that most successful contractors have no tertiary education?

i forgot to add that when you wanted to go for a foreign masters degree in Germany, you went through their course outline and you realise that you can't cope because you haven't really learnt what you need to learn at the bsc level?

there are more opportunities in the school,that we know...we just focus on our books .some of your coursemates and fellow students are more connected than you know,since most of us never mingle around,we don't know!!

that's mostly true,its annoying really,when we go through some of these foreign syllabus and you shake your head..but we still go there and beat them...we are just naturally good,but lack decent exposure to compete...that's why as painful as it may sound...a lot of Nigerians will never attain their intellectual height if they remain in this country.Note...they may be rich,popular and the likes,but they cognitive reasoning will be limited

i can't think of any class mate of mine who is gainfully employed even after a masters degree, class of 2008 fa o.

though am not fit to be here but I just have to air out my own view...I intend studying law like Amari but am awaiting my choice institution admission list(AAU) abouzaid after a careful observation of your posts on this thread I began to wonder if you are employed.bro though am not yet in school a degree holder who studied for the degree,even if he or she is unemployed is a plus.how many road side mechanic are elite in our society? how many can speak English fluently for 30minutes without him stuttering? how many of them are MD at Julius Berger, Chevron,NNPC etc.I kno you would say some are waived due to the fact that they av networks at the top.if all righteousness are to be fulfil will they be der? I am not saying to learn a skill isn't a good idea while I await admission I does a menial job of fixing phones which I rake in cookies money..............Sir appreciate God for making u a graduate its not a waste of time.

i would ask you of your opinion five years after your graduation from the Nigerian law school, right now,you're not in position to talk on this issue. I'm gainfully but it's what i learnt on the field that sustains me not what i was taught in school, many in my field open regret wasting time in school instead of moving to the field to earn money while learning.
