NNS Karaduwa My new favorite patrol vessel. Nigerian navy's domestically built 40 meters SDB. Hopefully the Navy awards a folllow-on order for 2 additional vessels, this time 60 meters, like the KCR-60 from Indonesia or the Cyclone class.

Nigerian navy engineering 5 Nigerian navy vessels are currently undergoing an extensive overhaul at the Naval dockyard. At the end of the exercise, NNS Ekun, NNS Siri, NNS Damisa, and the 2 Yola river-class boats pictured, would come back better than new.

africaken254:Hey, have you been following whats going on in ethiopia? and the rumours that some ethiopian soldiers are taking sides,,, all the way to the ones in Somalia.... If its true then it would be a really bad development... In other unrelated news, have you watched season 2 of the BBC tv series 'Our Girl'. (you dont realy need to watch Sn1). Its like Eye in the sky in that they perpet to show alshabaab running active military camps inside kenya, but atleast inthis series they give some ofthe credit to kenyan forces, they dont make you(the viewer from kenya) feel disrespected all the time when watching the movie.... speaking of brits: pic brits training with kdf

With over 5,000 creeks in Nigeria, the geography of Nigeria presents it own unique challenge and excitement for soldiers. As a matter of operational requirement and our current threats, the Navy has to invest heavily in 3 types of vessels. Offshore Patrol Vessels(OPV), Midshore Patrol Vessels/Inshore Patrol Vessels(MPV/IPV) and Inshore Patrol Crafts(IPC). Inshore Patrol Crafts make up atleast 40% of the navy's entire fleet. So far this year, the Nigerian navy has received/ordered 129 IPCs. With 120 units supplied by local Nigerian companies, and 9 imported from Sri-Lanka. Epenal group is the navy's main supplier with the company supplying 80 of the 100 boats ordered. These light bad boys are no push-overs as they come with powerful twin engines, carbon fiber composites, an aerodynamic hull which ensures agility on water, adequate protection against 7.62mm rounds and are heavily armed with both a 12.7mm HMG and a 40mm AGL which can hit targets that are 4km away with a 10 meters blast radius. Nigerian navy IPCs.

Egypt displays South African EW system https://www.janes.com/images/assets/618/64618/1686054_-_main.jpg The Egyptian Armed Forces displayed a new mobile electronic warfare (EW) system for the first time during a parade marking the October 1973 war with Israel. The system was labelled as the GSY2210 and the announcer for the television coverage of the parade said it was a radio communications reconnaissance and jamming system that had been made in South Africa and entered Egyptian service in 2011. While the GSY2210 has never been heard of before, the GSY 1450, GSY 1501 and GSY 1800 systems were made by the South African company Grintek Ewation, which is now GEW Technologies source: janes |

Henry240:That's a Reaper. The "Y" shaped tail gave it away. www.nairaland.com/attachments/4355029_ea15yyz_jpeg12013a3629e354d7e8d0689bd78b19b3 But what's more confusing is that, Egypt is only known to be in possesion of Caihong4 *CH4* and not Reaper. |

Henry240:Considering our threat level I don't see the SANDF ever having a budget more than 2% of GDP.....which would be about $8 bil now. IMO Nigeria should at least be spending between 2-3% on defence currently....just imagine the NDF with a $12 bil budget!! Algeria spend more than 6% percent of GDP on defence, that's like SANDF and NDF having a budget of $24 billion...... Image having a fvcking $24 bil defence budget....SAAF would by flying 150 Gripens, SAN would be sailing 24 Valours and The Army driving 2000 Leopard 2s |
