Hello Nairalanders! FTM due in march'17 and i'm really happy to be part of nairaland, I have learnt a lot since I found out about this trend in July. I share experiences gotten here with friends that are also interested in giving birth in the US.

Now my worries: i'm torn in between giving birth in Houston and Dallas but I have more info(I got here)on Houston than dallas. I just found out about JPS hospital in dallas but the issue is the hospital cost? if they still take foreign patients (I read somewhere here that JPS doesn't accept foreign patients)? a doctor' name or contact? I have contacted the numbers I got online from my research but it's not been fruitful. Please help a sister!!! I need useful comments. Thanks!

Points to Consider:

1. Pick a location where you have family so you can get post delivery care and cut out accommodation cost.

2. Search properly for Hospitals in Dallas, there are a couple of them. Visit their website and i am sure you would find a 'find a physician' link or a contact you can call. Negotiate since you would be a selfpay patient.

3. Assuming you have gotten your Visa, you can use a Doctor's correspondence from Houston for POE if you cannot get one from a Hospital in Dallas.

4. Also give preference to Hospitals that accept prepayment via Form A etc. You may be able to save some $ there.

Thank you so much @lobus for the quick response.

1) I have families in both dallas and Houston but i'm gonna be more comfortable in dallas especially with post delivery care.

2) I already did and got JPS but whenever I call they keep transferring my calls.

I just searched and found 8-9 OB/GYN associated with the JPS Hospital. Check each of them for their contact details using below link and call them each

You would have to put in more work on the search and keep calling.

Is it that when they transfer the calls,no body picks up at the other end or what?
I remember having a similar scenario when I called some hospitals/Dr's office ,in some instances I had to wait for like 10-15mins after transferbefore someone picked up,so I will advise you keep trying and be patient,if you situation is similar to what I just described.

Hi Maggie0133 u can send me a dm so i can send u the UNT number to reach Dr Shanna Combs office tho you would need to send your medical reports for her to review first before deciding whether to take u on at 36 weeks.

Don't know if i can post the number openly for others interested.

Please I will also need the UNT number... kindly share your cost and hospital experience asap. Thanks

I saw my mom do this severally. Don't shred it, just spread the leaves on a tray, leave it to air dry(no sun). Keep it in a place that has shade, don't spread it under the sun. The sun dries it up excessively and causes it to darken. Dont wash it before airdrying. After a few days it will become crisp. You wash only when you want to use it. It doesn't loose the bitter taste. I just discarded some leftovers from omugwo of 5 years ago smiley

FCMB has also reduced monthly limit to $100.

debby516:
My people, so i woke to see emails from GTB and Stanbic on non-usage of the Naira Mastercard abroad and reduction in the amount on POS and online. There is a caveat from Stanbic sha, that since i had pre-informed them of my travel itinerary, i'll still be able to use my card to withdraw and the new policy will take effect after i return from my trip (I'll still call their customer care to confirm).

So i quickly rushed to Access Bank to pick up my Visa card and also entered FCMB to apply for a naira mastercard. N.B. FCMB no longer issue mastercard except you have evidence of your trip i.e. Travel ticket. I got it activated immediately. So pls, for those travelling soon, pls have Plan B, C and even D.

God help us all.

A friend used an hospital in Dallas recently Baylor Scott and she got a total bill of 3000 dollars for hospital, 1,187 for doctor (will try and get the doctors name) den 71 dollars for followup check up and she already got her zero balance account. Shikena. Dough epidura and some others are not part of the package.

JPS doesn't take international patients. You have to be a Tarrant county resident. There's Baylor Scott & White in Carrollton.

.

My exact thought!. How many months are u going for? Pls I think 4packs of milk and a cartoon of oriental noodles or other type of noodles without chicken written on it should be enough . Remember you have other foods stuff to carry plus u will also eat out. Don't carry what u dont or won't need.u will need the space to carry baby things back

@ ezemistic, have u explored money gram or Western union. Get people in Nigeria to send it to you, it should be cheaper than black market.
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 4 by powermike9999: 10:21am On Oct 15, 2016
Sending money thru Moneygram/Western union is almost as difficult as sending money to heaven now frm my personal experience in d last 3 wks. Also d greedy, long throat, hungry & poor Fund transfer officer 'egunje' increases d cost.
