I totally disagree with you, most pictures of NAF drone we've seeing are usually cropped/screen grabs from videos and they ate from individuals.
I think ayd91 is right. That's probably because #ISIS uses high grade consumer drones with 4k fitted HD cams (most times GoPro) just for publicity stunt. I am sure HD clarity images is the last thing on NAF list.

Only videos of NAF drones we've seeing, we can just come into conclusion on the quality of the CH-3 & Gulma drones.

Borno IDPs Returning Home Suffer Landmine Explosion

A truck conveying internally displaced persons, IDPs, ran into a landmine planted on an highway causing an explosion which injured some of the passengers, officials said.

The displaced persons were being conveyed from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, back to Gamboru-Ngala, a border community about 145km away. The community is one of those liberated from Boko Haram.

The incident occurred barely an hour after the military authority in Maiduguri, officially okayed the movement of over 200 cars and trucks conveying the returnee IDPs and food items to the liberated border community.

The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Bello Moduganari, confirmed the incident to PREMIUM TIMES in his office.

"We just received the sad news that one of the vehicles that we had cleared to move to Gamboru-Ngala ran into a landmine at Ngom Village, some 20km away from Maiduguri.

"There is no report of death in the incident so far, but we have arranged to take the victims to the hospital here in Maiduguri.

"We learnt the landmine was planted in the centre of the road and an unsuspecting Land Cruiser jeep ran over it", he said.

A PREMIUM TIMES reporter was at the venue where the soldiers commenced the escort of the very long convoy of trucks, pickup vans and passenger buses conveying foodstuff and persons.

The Secretary of the NURTW in Borno, Amodu Musa, branch had earlier informed reporters that they could not convey the passengers because of the bad nature of the road especially during the rainy season.

"Initially we had ignorantly blamed the soldiers for not trying to help us; but when we went there on our own we met 18 of our trucks stuck in the clay mud blocking the entire routes", said Mr. Musa.

"We had to employ the service of a mega crane and towing vans to pull them out; then we also hired tippers to sand fill the route before we could make it to Gamboru some two weeks ago.

"And when we got to Gamboru we discovered that there were people but no food; a cube of Maggi was being sold for N20. A can of malt was sold at N350 and N300. That was why we pleaded with the military to assist us by allowing the trucks conveying food items to go first before the passenger vehicles".

The theatre commander of the operation 'Lafiya Dole', Lucky Irabor, had also informed journalists that the movement of persons and trucks through the routes leading to Gamboru was one of the most difficult tasks because of the dangers on the route.

Mr. Irabor, a major general, dispelled the claims made by the returnee IDPs that soldiers took bribes from truck owners before providing them escorts.

Somalia: KDF Jets Bomb Al Shabaab Stronghold in Gedo Region

Kenyan defense forces (KDF) military jets are reportedly launched an airstrike on Al shabaab camp near Bardere city in Gedo region on Friday, a local resident said. The aerial bombing against the militant base by KDF warplanes came after Al shabaab fighters staged an attack on army bases in Ali Hared area, about 20Km away from Juungal district.

Juungal, is key town re-captured by Somali forces on Wednesday from Al shabaab after a deadly offensive that claimed lives of three militants and two soldiers. The Al shabaab attack sparked heavy exchange of gunfire between the militants and allied troops that left 4 Somali government soldiers dead, the anonymous villager said.

The casualty figures on Al shabaab fighters as a result of the skirmish is sketchy, but the resident said the coalition forces repelled the militant attack. Al shabaab did not comment on the reported casualties and the attack, which was the latest in string of clashes between its fighters and Somali troops backing by KDF in Gedo.

*PRESS RELEASE*

CAMEROONIAN ARMY COMMMANDER COMMENDS NIGERIAN ARMY ON FIGHT AGAINST INSURGENCY

The Commander Sector 1 of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Brigadier General Bouba Dobekreo has commended the Nigerian Army for its gallantry in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency saying that such action has shown the determination of the Nigerian government to end the menace of Boko Haram Terrorism (BHT). He said Boko Haram insurgency since its inception has affected the economy of Cameroon especially as it concerns Trans Sahara Trade. General Bouba made this comment when he paid a courtesy visit to the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu at the Headquarters of the division in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State.

He described the GOC as a strategist, professional and team player who believes in synergy and cooperation to achieve set objectives. He thanked the GOC for all the support his troops enjoyed from his command especially in the area of information sharing and promised to maintain the already existing synergy between the Nigerian Army and the Cameroonian Forces. General Bouba described the challenges posed by the terrorists as a test for West African countries to handle security threats in the region by themselves. He called on West African countries to always be security conscious along the borders of the Chad Basin. The Cameroonian Commander promised to stand by Nigeria to end the insurgency in the shortest possible time.

The GOC in his remarks thanked the visiting General and the delegation for the visit which he attributed to the excellent relationship between the two countries through collaboration and capacity building in the fight against insurgency. He described the visit as timely and that it will afford the Commanders the opportunity to sit and re-strategize for the final onslaught against the terrorists. The Cameroonian Army commander was accompanied on the visit by Commander 4th Military Region of the Cameroon Defence Force, Brigadier General Kodji Jacob, Operation Officer MNJTF, Lt Col ML Ashetkuemun and some officers of sector 1 MNJTF.

RE: BURATAI SHOULD RESPOND APPROPRIATELY TO GASHIGAR ATTACK

Good morning Mr Yemi Adebowale, I have just read your piece titled “Buratai should respond appropriately to Gashigar Attack” on page 11 of today’s Thisday newspaper in which you are a Deputy Editor. It is really a pity that you do not have sufficient knowledge and understanding of the subject at hand or working of the military to write or comment.

If you do, you should have understood that there is no conflicting positions between what I said and the updates and further details provided by the Theatre Commander, Operation LAFIYA DOLE on the above mentioned attack. We must look at the sequence of events knowing well that this is an unconventional war situation and in line with the position of the Defence Spokesman yesterday, the pockets of attacks are not enough to stop the celebration that Boko Haram terrorists have been defeated.

I must tell you that I was so disappointed with you when you made reference to my response to an enquiry by your colleague without equally quoting the question he asked and putting it in that perspective. If at all you follow things, you would have known that I was the one that issued a statement on Tuesday 18th October 2016 in respect of the attack.

In fact, many of your senior colleagues called to praise our sincerity, while others query why we should talk about it at all. In it, I made it explicitly clear that troops were missing. So, how can you say that I said that it is not true? In any case, the said journalist was asking question whether it was true 83 soldiers were missing and my answer was that it was not true and went further state that he should ask Premium Times how they come about that information.

It is most uncharitable of you to state that our troops were ill-equipped. The issue of troops having low morale is also not true.

For you to request that the Chief of Army Staff should respond shows the level of your prejudice, contempt and ignorance of things. Both the Theatre Commander and my humble self speak for the Nigerian Army and have no cause whatsoever to mislead the public or anybody. In any case what you were saying is that no one should believe anything about Thisday newspaper unless it came from Mr Nduka Ogbeibeina, the publisher of Thisday.

Consequently, I demand an unreserved apology from you for casting aspersions on my integrity and honour. You should also please educate yourself on any subject matter before penning your thoughts.

Thank you.

Somalia: AU troops clash with Al Shabaab in Lower Shabelle region

A fierce gunfight between African Union forces and Al shabaab fighters broke out near Bulo-Marer district in Lower Shabelle region on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.

Saturday's battle has erupted after armed Al Shabaab militants ambushed a military convoy transporting Uganda soldiers of AMISOM contingent in a remote area close to Bulo Marer.

The ambush began with roadside blast targeted the military convoy, sparking a hours-long firefight between Al Shabaab fighters and AMISOM forces, according to sources. Pro-Al Shabab media reported that an armored vehicle belonging to AU forces was destroyed in the improvised explosive device (IED) explosion, a claim that AMISOM denies.

The AU convoy was attacked shortly after leaving Shalanbod district, which was carrying military supply to AMISOM bases in Barawe town, a coastal city in Lower Shabelle region.

No casualties were reported by the Ugandan troops, who are serving with the African Union mission in Somalia known as AMISOM.

In a separate incident, Al Shabaab said it has gunned down a senior Somali police officer in Mogadishu on Friday night, the latest in series of assassinations against security force members in the capital Mogadishu.

The officer who was identified as Colonel Ismail has been shot dead by two pistol-wielding men at his house located in Waberi district, however, the killers have escaped from the scene before the arrival of police.

Al Qaida linked Al Shabaab group has intensified its raids in the past weeks in a bid to overthrow the western-backed Somali government in Mogadishu.

TROOPS FOIL ANOTHER SUICIDE BOMB ATTEMPT ON “BAKASSI” IDP CAMP MAIDUGURI

At about 9.00am this morning, troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE deployed behind Bakassi Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, Damboa road, Maiduguri, on security duty, intercepted and killed a male suicide bomber who had attempted to sneak through the troops’ inner parapet towards the IDP camp.

The vigilant sentry sighted the bomber and laid in wait until the suicide bomber came close. The sniper instantly shot and killed the terrorists as he tried to force his way to the western flank of the IDP camp fence.

Unfortunately, the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) vest strapped on the bomber failed to detonate. Consequently, a combined team of military and police Explosive Ordinance Device (EOD) have been called to safely detonate the IED.

The situation at the camp and the general area is calm.
