TheGoodJoe:The performance could be a fluke. I can tell you that it's not every time that Mikel performs in the Eagles camp but he has not disappointed us in real matches. Even if it is no fluke, Dele is no de Gea who has handled enormous pressure. We simply cannot risk it. Sorry. 1 Like |

No Wingback Role For Chelsea Moses In Super Eagles, Rohr Confirms Preferred Choice The coach of the Nigeria senior national team Gernot Rohr has ruled out playing Victor Moses as a wing back for Nigeria, when they take on Algeria on the 12th of November in Uyo. Moses who missed Nigeria’s first World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Zambia, the 2-1 win in Ndola is among the new faces called up by the manager for the Algeria tie. This season the Nigerian has flourished in a new role as a wingback under the 3-4-3 system of manager Antonio Conte, but Rohr confirmed in a chat with Owngoalnigeria.com that his preferred style for the Algeria game means there will be no spot for a wing back. ”We don’t play the Chelsea way, against Algeria we won’t play like Chelsea, so we might necessarily not need a wing back. On the flanks we have Ahmed Musa, Moses Simon and Alex Iwobi, Victor Moses is part of them” He said. “The idea is to put out the best team with the best formation for the Algeria game, although we intend to maintain most of the players who started the game against Zambia. We will build from there”. Source: http://owngoalnigeria.com/2016/11/04/no-wingback-role-for-chelsea-moses-in-super-eagles-rohr-confirms-preferred-choice/ 1 Like |

joseph1013: Please, when we talk of performing in camp, we talk of drills like shooting balls at different rates and the keeper making multiple saves. It is not a one thing that you will say fluke. Just like the passing drills Rohr made, a player can not get it by fluke. That is what drills are for. Testing the players in different conditions with multiple routines. People praise talents brave men took risk with and categorise talents that their heads are scared to take risk with as not up to the others. 1 Like |

Select outstanding players for Algeria qualifier, Ex-international urges Super Eagles coach Lagos – An ex-international, Wahidi Akanni, on Friday advised the Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Salisu Yusuf to select outstanding players for the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Algeria to ensure they topped their group. The Nigeria is in Group B alongside Cameroon, Zambia and Algeria. Akanni, who spoke in Lagos, added that the players should be psychologically prepared. “The coach should pick the best legs, not minding who played the last game or not, you should pick the best leg to represent Nigeria. *Salisu Yusuf “I think we will come out with a good result as well; I think we did well against Zambia, that game has come and gone. “I will expect that the team will do the same thing; they will prepare early to get the players psychologically ready. “Because that’s also part of the game and then once they can do that I think Algeria will be tough when they come here. “But having the edge will give us a good advantage over them, so we have to be ready for that game. “And nobody will wake up and say Algeria is going to be easy, I believe that the game will be very tough but psychologically once our players are ready.... The victory by the Super Eagles in the group will make them to appear for the sixth time at the World Cup. The 2018 World Cup holds in Russia. You berra deliver Big man..... It's obvious you will keep goal afterall..... At least let some not suffer heart attack before the game starts... Loolll Anyway, Akpeyi... It's up to you now... ....................................................................... AKPEYI: ALGERIA WILL BE TOUGH BUT NIGERIA WILL WIN Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi Late call-up Daniel Akpeyi has predicted a tough World Cup qualifier at home against Algeria, but remains confident the Super Eagles will still carry the day. Chippa United of South Africa goalkeeper Akpeyi was called up as a replacement for injured Carl Ikeme. "The game (vs Algeria) will be tough, but we will win,” declared the shot stopper, who featured at the recent Rio Olympics, where Nigeria clinched a bronze medal. Akpeyi said he received his late call-up with mixed emotions. "I received my call-up with mixed emotions,” he revealed. "I am very happy to be part of the team that will prosecute the match against Algeria. "All we need from Nigerians and the NFF is massive support like we had against Zambia.” He also wished Ikeme a quick recovery from a hip injury. "I wish Carl a speedy recovery, but Nigerians can count on me to deliver in Uyo,” he said. Source: http://africanfootball.com//news/661268/Akpeyi-Algeria-will-be-tough-but-Nigeria-will-win 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: The super Eagles of Nigeria is bigger than Athletico Madrid. Youngsters get debuts for clubs before being called by their country for a reason. why didn't Donaruma get his Italy debut before starting for AC Milan? Using the De gae analogy doesn't hold water. At Athletico, De gae was not even the 2nd keeper for Spain. Cassilas and Pepe Reina were ahead of him even when he was starting for Athletico... I wonder the reason for comparism with Alampasu. 1 Like |

TheSuperNerd:I get your point. It was not just Akpeyi that was woeful that day, majority of the players were. That surely can affect the confidence of a keeper. In the final of 2008 olympic we played against argentina, osaze the captain, was jittery due to other of his team mates who were afraid of messi and the rest. So try to view it from such perspective. We can not gamble with this match, because is more like an automatic ticket if we win and cam vs zambia play a draw. We would have 4 points advantage against our opponents, who would then play with fear, anger and anxiety. |

Come on Rohr, we know you won't play Alampasu... He's the team's future no.1. We know that... And you know that too. So telling us no automatic shirt only to see Akpeyi in goal on Nov.12 is still the same thing Experience picked eventually even if Ezenwa produces a masterclass on Sunday in the Federation cup final... You wouldn't have called him up if you thought Ezenwa or Alampasu could do it... Akpeyi will be in goal so let's move on. In Carl's absence, he kept goal in Alexandria so we know the drill ahead of nov.12. But make I just give u benefit of a doubt.... ....................................................................... No automatic shirt for Akpeyi, others Gernot Rohr: Rohr for Federation Cup Final Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr has declared that the trio of Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Alampasu will fight for the No I shirt ahead the 2018 World Cup qualifier s against Algeria slated for Uyo, Akwa Ibom State next weekend. Speaking through the Team Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, yesterday, Rohr who is not happy over the absence of the Super Eagles first choice keeper, Carl Ikeme for the match, stated that the technical crew decided to bring in Akpeyi to avoid lapses in build up to the match. He stated that the absence of the Wolverhampton Wanderers goal tender, Ikeme, would not affect the Eagles goal keeping department, adding that the other keepers are good enough to mount the post against Algeria.’ ‘’Akpeyi would not get automatic shirt for the Algeria tie. He would fight for a place with the other two goalkeepers in the team. You should realize that the goalkeeping department is technical, so, we cannot afford to manage Ikeme for the qualifier. Speaking further, the Super Eagles Media Officer said: “Rohr is not happy over the development, but there is nothing anybody can do at this moment.’’ Ibitoye added that the German-born tactician will be present at the Federation Cup final between Nasarawa United and FC IfeanyinUbah, which will hold at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, this weekend. I already said.... I know Alampasu won't keep goal. I was only being open-minded when I said, "but if it comes down to Alampasu, then so be it". I believe in a whole perspective. The only reason Alampasu won't keep goal is obvious..... "Experience" But all of football is a risk although some risks are more sane and more manageable compared to others. I wonder what y'all think of Ben Carson's so-called gambles on some surgical cases that had 10% or even worse 8% survival chance. In all, we know the drill, Akpeyi will keep goal but don't forget, there are exceptions to this "Experience" rule. Jefersoun: |

‘’Akpeyi would not get automatic shirt for the Algeria tie. He would fight for a place with the other two goalkeepers in the team. Just wear the oldest keeper Jersey. I throwway salute. We do not want to hear any PsyKolo excuse. |

TheGoodJoe:Going by your logic that experience should be thrown out of the window, instead training form should determine who starts. De gae was impressing for Athletico while Reina and Cassilas were on the decline. Why didn't Spanish selectors choose De gae ahead of the old and experienced heads of Reina and Cassilas? |

joseph1013: I am not saying he is already our number 1 but if he outperforms the others at camp and still gets benched that would be a bigger gamble. Believe u me i know what the other keepers have to offer, they are no scrubs but i won't agree to discount Dele on paper without giving him a chance to prove himself. All the same i am trusting our white uncle to make the right choice. 2 Likes |

goldfish80: Now you get me. Experience to me does not count. Current form counts. Iheanacho lacks experience among our top strikers but he is one of the best in Europe. Better over Experience. Who is the best? Decide that in training. De Gea was impressing but he was not better than Cassilas and Reina. Unlike what we have in our team now. Our current keepers are not top quality. Let them fight for the Jersey. Prove who is the best in training. |

BascoVanVeli: You can not tag Iheanacho an experienced player. He is still a youngster. If Iheanacho is experience, where does it start? When he scored the first, second or third goal. Iheanacho has some experience, however, he is not what we usually tag and experienced player. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe:First of all, Iheanacho had 2 solid pre seasons and friendly games before he made his Premier league bow. In national team, there is no luxury of time to blend in a youngster 3 days before match day. Dele and Iheanacho's case are totally different. Don't even compare club with country footie 1 Like |

goldfish80: but Dele has also had a full season in Portugal. He was a second choice but decided to go play football, we can't punish him for doing the right thing. The other 2 have one meaningful start between then so whoever starts will basically be thrown in. There is no easy decision to be made here we will be taking a gamble with anyone of them so why not start them on equal note. Just don't write Dele off so soon. 3 Likes |
