Please ladies help me out with your suggestions and experiences. I want to buy flight ticket to Houston. I have two options now Emirates and Turkish airline. In terms of services, comfort and lay over which is better? And I intend going by 36 weeks hope the policy of either airline is favourable or I have to go earlier. Thanks
Emirates any day, any time. Their services are top notch, and roomy interior. They usually have lay overs in Dubai. The only disadvantage is the flight duration. You'll have to fly 7 - 8 hours to Dubai, then fly even more hours to your final destination because they don't fly directly across the Atlantic, but through the north pole. Asides from that, the flight is comfortable.

Only flown emirates, great customer service, looooooonng but comfy flight. Flight was not full from dubai to Houston so space to snooze. Layover on the outward leg was not fun cuz getting thru passport control then to the hotel took a lot of time, by the time we made it to the hotel we had only about 3-4hrs before departure. Booked the airport hotel on the return leg and the layover was awesome, no passport control, lots of time to enjoy the room and the airport shops and a short walk to the departure area. As per customer service, met a nasty African American lady supervisor in Houston who made me pay extra for luggage inspite of an email confirming the right amount I tried to show her, made the payment, contacted customer service when I was back in naija and after a couple of emails got my money back. Okay I'm done! All the best!

Oh forgot to add, in lagos Emirates was adamant my fit to fly letter wasn't enuf just cuz there was no EDD on it. After being sent from supervisor to manager, we were allowed to get the port health certificate

You can both start now especially if you have not gotten a US visa before so that you can get early appointment and start all the other preparations after your visa is issued.
August looks far but it is not.
My view though.

I concur, the earlier the better, incase of a refusal which no one wishes you can reapply and repackage, August isn't far again.

Pls my people how are we doing? Pls I currently have an issue at hand. I was met to use houston methodist sugarland but my sil said it's abit far from her place. Then I contacted an old friend and referred me to her sister but she said it's also far from her end that there is houston northwest medical center close to her. Then I asked if I could stay with her she said no problem. Because of the flexibility of her job she said she could pick me from the airport. I Went with plenty of African food but couldn't buy garri cos I was really stressed out doing the shopping alone. The first thing she she was did I bring garri? I said no. Then she said u were coming Nigeria u couldn't ask what I wanted. I realized I made a mistake there and I apologized and said I will make it up to her when my DH is coming. After 2days she called me and sat me down and said I offended her 3yrs ago and i didnt apologize. That I booked a flight without asking what day was convenient for her to pick me up and I also booked an appointment at th hospital without asking when was ok for her(i can remember I asked her before accepting the appointment date given). Then she said my husband knew I was coming to her and he couldn't call to appreciate her. I apologized on my DH behalf cos he is offshore. Then she said I used to be very proud and rude even though I was staying with her sister. May while she just described herself . I didn't say anything then she asked how old I was I told her she asked me to guess how she is. I knew but pretended not to know. Then she said she is 15yrs older than I am that I was messing around with her then. That I will soon be a mother tha is it with this my attitude I will raise a child. I felt bad in my mind with my attitude a man could marry me at a very young age and has never complained about me but u 40yrs+ no boyfriend. She now said do u know people pay 4 accomodation and utility bills to give birth here. That she is sacrificing a lot for me. That she could have refused me coming to her place but she didn't. She then asked but why ain't i staying with ur sil. I told her the reason being distance but she said that's not true that there is something else. She ranted and said a lot of nonsense. Then I told my DH to call her and she spoken to him without regard my DH was hurt but he just held himself and kept apologizing to her as she was talking. Now she is giving one kind of attitude. I really can't take it cos at my last appointment my blood pressure was a bit higher than the way it used to be back home and I really don't sleep well. Cos her own sil is around to give birth and she asked me to move out from the room for her into her own bedroom but she keeps saying she likes her privacy so I end up laying on the floor in the sitting room or sleep for like 2hrs in her room and come out. Even when she sees me on the floor she doesn't say anything she will just enter her room and lock the door. I don't really eat as such but wen she makes food, is after her and her sil had taken theirs she will now ask if I'm interested in eating. I must say she is doing a lot for me but d attitude isn't good at all. I want to move to my sil place and don't mind the distances (It's about 45mins drive) is it something I should consider? I really don't need all dis I need to be joyful for my baby.
Pls my sil lives at southwest and the hospital is at cypress. Pls people that know houston pls advice me on how I can be getting to the hospital at a cheaper rate. Thanks a lot
Pls move out asap...I had similar experience, its gonna be worst when the baby arrives..it might even lead to fighting yourselves..

Congratulations.. It is so reassuring to know the Childbirth visa isn't cancelled yet.
Please did you book an accommodation for your duration of stay or indicated in your DS 160 that you'll be staying with family/friend?? I'm also a March Houston mum preparing for interview early January.

I greet you all. So I came into LA last week but between trying to settle in and tending to my 2yr old toddler who was running a fever, I've been unable to post my Poe experience. Thank God he's doing okay now so here goes: came in on Emirates with mum and son. Loooong flight but super duper comfy, I love Emirates. Joined the queue and an officer took me to a free cbp officer on seeing I was pregnant. I greeted him, no response then he asked for passports and I handed it over. Asked what I was there for, told him to have my baby. Second baby? I said yes. Where did you have the first? Elpaso, Texas Sir. How much did you pay? I paid almost $6000 sir. Receipts? I hand them over. But ur receipt here says you paid $2700. Yes sir, that's only the hospital bill. I've got receipts for the total amount I paid as well here in soft copy on my tablet. Okay ma'am,hold on for my colleague he said as I make to fish out the receipts from my iPad.
So that's how another officer came and took us to the 'Admissibility review room'. Waited a while and we were told to switch off all devices, then was called up to a window. Asked why I was there and repeated my answer , to have my baby.why America? Told him my hubby and I had serious fertility issues after marriage( which is true, we waited almost 5yrs before our 1st, miscarriages, issues, and all) so we decided to come seek better healthcare management when I finally got pregnant with my son. Long story short, this guy was rude, livid, angry, insisted it was for the visa and wouldn't permit me to turn on my iPad to show him my receipts from Doctoresparati which stated the full amount I had paid. I told him that getting citizenship for my children was a very very cherished and much appreciated part of the whole process but for us it was first my healthcare and safe delivery of our precious ones. He was fixated on my zero balance receipt from the hospital which carried only the $2700 charge and even after permitting me to switch on my iPad, wouldn't give me the wifi password do I cod access the receipts from my mailbox. To Gods glory, I maintained my calm, stuck to my truth and waited for him to finish threatening to send me back to Nigeria if I could not produce receipts and complaining about why the vos kept issuing people visas for childbirth. At last, he supplied the wifi password, I accessed my mailbox and voila, the receipts. Showed him and that was it. He asked how much I was paying this time, told him and he laughed cynically, commenting that it was even cheaper. He asked for my medical correspondence and I handed it over. Asked how much I had on me, told him about $10,000 plus my hubby's dollar card and my own cards. He gave me the usual don't take Medicaid advice and stamped us in for 6months each and off we went to the Baggage claim where my bags were scanned and we were sent on our wY, nothing was seized even though I had declared all my orishirishi food. For a moment there, it felt like I was at Chicago Poe and I couldn't believe this was the same la Poe that used to be such a breeze as at part1/part2 of the thread. The worst part is that this guy drilling me like this was of Asian descent with an Asian name to show for it and his pepper body for this American citizenship matter was just too much, it was almost pitiful. Anyways @all, please draw all the lessons you can from my story, print out all ur receipts and have them handy. In my case, I was just discharged from hospital a few days b4 my trip where I had been hospitalized for false contractions and a host of other issues so I didn't even have enough strength to,prepare well for my journey. It was only by Gods grace that I was able to make that journey with no issues self considering how weak I had been even right up till the morning of our departure. I never thought I'd encounter such hostility cos we got my previous visa and this present one which I renewed through Dropbox solely for this childbirth purpose and hence my ' annoyance' at the whole thing. At the end of the day, I give God all the glory. I've had my 1st doctors appointment with Dr. M and registered with St. Francis. I'm trusting God for favor for safe deliver and a smooth beautiful stay here.Merry Christmas house, may the peace and joy of the season be ours forever.
