Above all, I wish al des is resolved to her favour cos it's just bad dat pple from d elds states who have lower points ar on d admission list for med while she is left hangin in d air. I wonder why we still study in our "failed" educational institutions in Nigeria.
Nigeria education is a complete scam.
The best of the best cannot compete with his/her counterpart abroad. So what's fuzz.
No Nigeria institutions on the list of best 10000, institutions in the world. Yes we are only brilliant on paper.
We have better, cheaper, and more advance schools abroad that you don't even need that fu*king JAMB.
Check my signature to get immediate admission to study any course you want, at 50% scholarships without any external exams,

she actually submitted seven courses
here's the prove

And the university went ahead and assumed that she failed the 8th subject or didn't take it at all..Shouldn't the university know better and request information on the missing subject? Or is this question I am asking dumb?

I stand with you. The admissions process is shrouded in assumptions that are made in haste and turned out untrue. That's the problem here.

Then is wrong! If the 5'O level credit system must change, then the other processes have to change too. IFE has made a huge mistake here. You don't base admissions decisions on assumptions. The best way would be to get the subjects and grades from the horse's mouth, the examining bodies. Why assume a student failed a subject or didn't take the 8th subject when you have not verified. Wow, this is unbelievable. Or are our brothers and sisters in support of the uni's decision not seeing this glaring error??

Yeah. ...Most of the entrepreneurial subjects we were forced to do was not on the system e.g book keeping....seven subjects was calculated for one of my friends too. The unfair thing is that their O level point was divided by eight.

That is the point and that remains the mistake. The school has made an implicit assumption that - either the student got F in the subject or didn't take it. This is not exactly true as it turned out. That is a hasty assumption.

Dear Prof., by the moniker Adesegunfat, I've always known OAU to be a reputable institution and so, please do the needful asap. The legacy left behind since the early 90's is expected to still be maintained till date. In case a candidate had occupied this poor prospective student's place in error, due to an influence propelled by a letter from the above, please do the reversal asap. The case is already in the public domain so, it's no more hidden. There are quite reputable people here on nairaland, including Senators, Governors, Ambassadors, Embassies, Companies' CEOs, DGs, Medics, etc who are only known by different monikers , except the US Embassy whose moniker can be easily noticed and I strongly believe they're closely following this case as well. I want to continue to remain anonymous myself, until when there's need for me to act. Thanks for your anticipated cooperation in this regard.

Oga, me I have already sent the prof a respectable email. He looks like a respectable person and an elder and for him to have come out to give this explanation, bros he deserves our respect and humility, at least young people like me.

The school has made an error of assumption here and I will continue to disagree, like you, with anyone who tries to absolve the school of any blames.

I am waiting for the prof's response. If the response don't come and nothing happens, then the matter will go further. The school has to own up to the error in its process and improve in the next admissions process in the coming years

The truth is the problem is not actually with OAU but with the educational curriculum now being used...... Imagine someone going for med&surg doing book keeping, marketing, tailoring and all that in WAEC. You don't really expect OAU to grade the person with those subjects.

Please don't expect OAU to accept subjects like fisheries, computer studies, catering and all these newly introduced subjects like home economics, civic education for screening into Medicine and Surgery, OAU only accepts the core science subjects (best cool That's why Further maths (B2) was picked from her result and computer studies (A1) was neglected.
The second point is that the quota for merit admission is 45% and the merit is irrespective of your state of origin, so for her to be admitted she must be part of the first 45/100 of the candidates that applied since she's not from any of the catchment areas which is alloted 35% and ELDS 20%.
Generally speaking now, candidates now run away from subjects like Economics, Agricultural science, Geography etc in their WASSCE, while they opt for subjects like fishery, Animal Husabandry, catering etc because of the higher chances of making distinctions in those subjects. There are chances that these subjects might not be accepted and screened for you during the POST-UTME screening depending on the department you are applying to. That's why some people would submit 9 subjects and at the end only five subjects would be picked neglecting the likes of woodworks, catering etc.
?? So how is Furher maths better than computer studies for medicine o? they cant accept "new subjects" but they can accept combination of result abi? Oshi. stop defending shit. The rubrics used for this admission is trash...It only favour ELDS and professors and lecturers children

Guy, let's focus on merit where the girl belongs. Forget the rest, they have been in the naija policy for decades..

In the merit, their decisions are based on assumptions that didn't turn out true. And this is the fact.

The mistake is with the summation of her O'level result. From what the distinguished Prof. posted above. The summation of her O'level result should be 50/64 not 44/64. Therefore her O'level score should be 78.1%. Since her JAMB is 320/400. That is 40/50=80%. 78.1+80/2=79.05%. Which is above the merit cut off. She should be on merit list sir. cc: Seun lalasticlala
Wait ooo bros, i studied in a different system, but logically, a student could get above the merit cut off and still not be admitted. I think your argument, should border on how well she did compared to others on the list.

Furthermore, using the Prof calculation above she is above the merit cut off. Using my own calculations(below), she is even far above the cut off mark. Whichever one we use she is above the merit cut off.

If we choose her 8 best subjects from above, English A1(8 marks), Maths B3 (6 marks), Biology C4 (5 marks), Chemistry B3 (6 marks), Physics C4 (5 marks ), Civic Education A1(8 marks), Further Maths B2 (7 marks ), Computer science A1 (8 marks). 8+7+5+6+5+8+7+8=53, That is 53/64=82.8%.

Her JAMB UTME is 320/400=80%. (80+82.cool/2=81.4%. Her aggregate should be 81.4% sir.

Looking at her screening report below which she uploaded on Twitter, it is obvious that the computer made a mistake of computing only 7 subjects out of her O level results instead of 8 subjects. And from your calculation above sir, there is a mistake of Physics been repeated twice (even with your calculation above with Physics been repeated twice, her aggregate point should be 79.05 % sir). cc : Seun Lalasticlala Adesegunfat

The distinction between the two is very blurry and gray if there's any distinction whatsoever!
For example, you're in charge of admissions and you're from lagos, two students, one from cross rivers and one from a place near your ancestral home in lag who happens to be your second cousin fall on the lower spectrum of the confidence interval for a given course and you have to pick one of them to complete your list, the cross rivers applicant edges the lagos applicant by 0.005% points which is statistically insignificant but that difference exists, you pick the lagos student knowing he's a vague relation of yours but rationalise it as it being his luck, afterall, 0.005% is insignificant forgetting that the other student and people from his area won't see it as such and they allege favouritism which let's be honest it is, so on your scale of morality, nepotism is less worse than tribalism but how are you going to reconcile it to your conscience? With that O'level result n a jamb score of such magnitude, that lady deserves to be in a university of her choice studying a course of her choice as well. Universities in d south west such as Unilag n OAU are known for always throwing out names especially if u are not from that geopolitical region. This has to stop.

Is d school telling me that if she had lied while uploading her grades in d portal by saying she had A1 in all her O'level subjects that they would not have verified if it's true or not by asking her to upload the statement of results before computing her scores.

For d girl's gud, she deserves an admission letter now that is d least that can be done for her now. Let's stop all these rubbish of rewarding laziness n encouraging mediocrity. How is that possible? Vc lists are legally backed up. They are called 'developmental lists' because it is assumed that the money generated from such lists are ploughed back into the school.

Staff lists are also legally backed up, the good Prof said that they can only admit 100 students for medicine and surgery, I can assure you that only about 30 persons were admitted on merit and unluckily she didnt enter than top 30, and she isnt part of the catchment or ELDS. I am not making excuses here but there are a lot of reasons why she wasn't admitted

ur initial point that irked me was that south western schools were tribalistic

now you have shifted the goal posts. I will no longer engage you in this dance of folly.

to set the record straight. you suggested that this particular girl did not gain admossion into OAU because she was from delta state and not from the south west.

now that its apparent that she is already a student of the school, you have 'changed mouth' and danced away from the crux of our argument.

the fact is you made a baseless, ill informed , biased and hopelessly unfounded statement. and it came back to bite you...

the lady is a student of OAU. and she is not Yoruba. deal with that....then we can talk about nepotism

And this proof says it is the fault of the schools e-portal admin/designers who made one of her subjects unavailable on the day she filled and submitted her form as is corroborated by the other twitter user with whom she's having the conversation so still the schools fault!

But then again the school knows that and they also demanded for scanned copies of results for verification purposes and the computer science she was unable to compile into the form she filled online was very ambiguous in it so if they must calculate her o'levels over 8 subjects, what is their excuse this time? undecided except to give excuses and apportion blame to the student which will fly on superficial examinations but fail when critically assessed

can you see ur tribalism and nepotism spew has fallen flat on its face in this case? you and others like you need to take matters based on their merits!
